Man shoots golfer who hit errant shot thru his home window WOW
SCfanatic35 replied to atxpkrgolf's topic in Golf Talk
In his defense, this guy was new to golf and was invited to play in the shotgun tournament happening that day. It was just a little confusion on his part. -

I always wear shorts when golfing, even when it is cold. I probably walk 99% of the time. I don't know if anyone else has had this same problem, but when I wear slacks they get dirt/grass stains on the bottom from trudging through the rough or from grass clippings that stick to everything from the morning dew. I would rather be cold then ruin a 60 dollar pair of slacks each round. I guess I could just only wear black slacks, but I prefer khaki. In the Central Valley it might be in the low 40's at the start of the round and will heat up to the 50's once the fog burns off. There usually isn't much wind around here so once the sun comes up it usually provides enough warmth to get my legs feeling good. Plus walking as opposed to riding warms me up.

I believe that is the standard USGA recommendation for breaking ties if you don't have a playoff. If still tied they use the last 6, then 3, then final hole. The way you described above is exactly how my club breaks all ties. I guess in theory it should have been the front 9 because you were playing better at the end. But since half of the field was on front and the other on the back, it is not fair to compare a front to a back, so they probably just decided to use the back for all.

Which club do you chip with?

Nope. I know exactly what the 2 are, and use my 56* SW for most chip shots and for pitch shots it just depends on the situation I am in. -
Your golf handicap trend ... up or down, why?
SCfanatic35 replied to rkim291968's topic in Golf Talk
I'm trending down, and have been doing so for a little over a year now. My index was in the high 24's in June of '12. My last revision it was 16.4, and is 15.8 as of right now. I have my best 2 rounds as my 19th & 20th so I need a good few rounds the next few times out or it could bring me up a bunch. The main reason that it is going down is because I joined a CC in December and have been playing a ton. If I am unable to play 9 or 18, I am at least hitting balls at the range because the CC is on my way home from work. Just got my first real lesson today, and I was hitting the ball better than I have my whole life. I have had 2 lessons before this one but they were from a lady at the pitch and putt range near my house. Hindsight...she was terrible for me so I am glad I only did 2. -

PGA Championship - Fans pick flag location for final round
SCfanatic35 replied to vmsea's topic in Tour Talk
I like hole location A. I think it's good when you make par-3's challenging. The only question I have is what are holes 14,16,17,18? I don't like when courses are setup with no birdie opportunities over the closing holes. I think this idea for fans to get involved is great for golf. -

The USGA one. Since the app or website is called sandbagger, I would imagine it is incorrect to help you win money.

They were terrible 3 putts, the first one was hole 9. I was lying 2 on a par 5 about 40 yards out, screwed the chip, hit half way from a 50 foot putt, and then barely missed the 20 footer. The next 3 putt on hole 11 was because I was 20 feet away and hit it 10 feet past and missed the one coming back. The last one was on hole 13, and I had about 1 foot straight in for par and pulled it 1-2 inches left. Then to top it off I hit 1 bad tee shot all day on hole 16. Topped the ball, hit a tree just in front of the tee box and kicked left OB. Still had a great score, started hitting the ball better, but could have been better.

Teeing Up Irons (Par 3 or Otherwise)
SCfanatic35 replied to Jwat381's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I have my 6 year old daughter tee up every shot because she is just learning and needs all the help she can get. Plus she says a pink ball always has to be on a pink tee, that's the rules. How can you argue that. I think it's in the USGA rulebook. -
Teeing Up Irons (Par 3 or Otherwise)
SCfanatic35 replied to Jwat381's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I always use a tee on every tee box. Why not use the advantage of having a perfect lie? I wish I could use a tee out in the middle of the fairway too. The tee heights for different irons can be whatever you want them to be, as long as the tee itself is no longer than 4 inches. -
I have never seen this situation come up at my course because they would never let a single go out if the course were crowded. They would make them get with a 3-some or 4-some if they wanted to play. If the course was pretty slow then they would let a single out but then you wouldn't have the problem of needing to play through group after group.
-
I'm not an expert on this, but I think it has to do with helping tone down possible sandbaggers. It also could be like you said because they are best balls and they don't want guys double popping on a lot of holes. I played in a big 3 day tournament at my club, which they used 50% of the LOW H.I. for the year and 50% of the last revision. This way a guy who was a 12 (Half is 6) and now has gone up to an 18 (Half is 9), will play at a 15 for the tournament.

Welcome -
My club is not crazy about 6-somes but they are allowed for certain groups, who they know play fast. The pro shop actually was the one who added the extra player to make it a 6-some. My group and everyone I play with is the epitome of "ready golf" and "playing fast". If we get caught by the pack we have to split up into 2 3-somes but that hasn't happened as of yet. We also tee off at around 6:30 in the morning which helps. It also helps that we are not the worlds greatest golfers, so it's not like we all hot our drives in the fairway to the same spot. We all walk the course and have fun. We don't play like the people who have learned pace of play from watching the PGA Tour. We don't check every angle of every putt, we don't mark every 2 foot putt, we don't play honors, and it's OK if a guy who is 10 yards closer plays a shot as long as the other guy isn't ready. If we are a foursome the round will take probably closer to 3:15. When I play by myself it usually takes under 3 hours. I guess it's good that everyone at my club plays fast.
-
+1 Couldn't agree more, this is how we do it too. Yesterday we were a 6-some, yes a 6-some, and we had a 2-some behind us that caught us for the first time on hole 5 only because we were looking for a few balls. A guy new to our group waved them up the first time they waited for about 10 seconds. We waited on those guys for the next 6 holes. They eventually ended up maybe 1 hole ahead of us by the end of the round. We finished the round in 3:45 with a 6-some and even waiting on that group for about 6 holes.
-
IMO, this is basic knowledge that all pro shop employees should know, especially if they are in charge of tournaments/events. It makes me wonder what other stuff your guys don't know or what other wrong information they have passed on to other golfers.
