never thought I'd say this but I have to agree with you. He's actually very funny in interviews too. -
They come with a free bowl of soup.

Ball Position on Uphill and Downhill Lies
AmenCorner replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I'd say it's just like an airplane. Tilt it to the left and it will fly left, and vice versa. When ball is above your feet, it will have a tendency to fly left. Again, and vice versa. -

Ball Position on Uphill and Downhill Lies
AmenCorner replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Uphill I play it back, downhill slightly forward. I also was told once to try a slightly open stance on uphill lies to help get (hips) through the ball and it has helped a lot! My dad lives on a course in the mountains and these lies are very common. Also try to keep shoulders even with the turf. -
Was Steve Williams disrespectful of the flag on Saturday?
AmenCorner replied to big o fan's topic in Tour Talk
The big deal is that the flag represents everything that this country is. Furthermore, our forefathers felt it was of the highest importance to protect and preserve the integrity of our flag and everything that it stands for. Now, I ask you, who are we to question that? I however do agree that it is not fair to single out Tiger's caddy. The tournament organizers in my opinion should reconsider this tradition in future years. Yes, I think the intention was honorable, but let's not kid ourselves, they are selling something whether we choose to admit it or not. -
What do YOU look for in a golf course?

Great post. -
I would say never being able to get all cylinders firing at once. Or at least for 18 holes. I always seem to have a poor back nine when the front is a barnburner.

New Pete Dye Course : Pound Ridge Golf Club
AmenCorner replied to JYB's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
Point taken. At the same time, reality is most people might only play a couple times a year, as a treat. There is a course around here that I consider the same type of thing. I'll play the muni 9/10ths of the time, but I'll spring for more a few times a year. It sounds like a lot of money, but sounds like they are getting it! -

I know some people, more than one, that have worked there or continue to work there in season. They used those exact words. I am also aware they have 2 courses. "Half the time" the place is probably unplayable. So, the other half of the year it is pretty much a golf factory. Nice clubs down here with 2 courses usually have around 600 members. -
What do YOU look for in a golf course?

That's what I'm talking about! -
I am interesting in hearing what people really look for in a golf course, meaning what do you like? I'm seeing more and more lately that people truly have very different things that make them tick when it comes to a course. Being from South Florida, I enjoy undulation and texture to a course merely because you don't see much of that down here. This is one of the flattest places in the world. Some people look for good greens Some people like lush fairways Some people like a challenge and on and on. Give me the top three things you look for when evaluating a course. Me: 1) Condition: Fairways, Tees, and Greens have grass. Not necessarily green. 2) Undulation or Elevation change: Nothing drastic, but enough to create some texture. 3) Fair but Challenging design This is not about clubhouses or anything else, just the course. Thank you!

As Bob Rotella would say, sloppy targets produce sloppy swings.

100% agree with this and the previous advice to hit it like a 7-iron.

So far Tiger is showing why is the #1 in the world and Anthony is not. Of course, nobody expected Mr. Mahan to go OFF!

They said in the paper today that Kim has not beaten Tiger in a tournament this year!

I think Yoga is great. I haven't done that much of it, but prefer the Bikram (hot) Yoga. Stretching and flexibility is really important, plus they do a lot of stuff supporting your own body weight. The only reason I don't do it is because of the cost, plus I can't hear what they are saying half the time. If I could afford a private session once a week I would do it!

Single-digit handicappers, do you break tees?
AmenCorner replied to madcityscott's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I break them all the time. Interesting, I've never heard this argument before. -
I guess you could say that, but not really. You just don't do ALL the exercises, and you don't always do the prescribed weights. Very few people can do a muscle up (myself included) but there are other things you can do to lead up to that. My gym actually does crossfit workouts but excludes some of the exercises such as the muscle up. For those (myself included) who can't do the workout of the day (WOD) there are tons of other crossfit workouts that the average person can handle, even novices. The main thing I like about crossfit is that it is an ALL AROUND program. If you only try to isolate certain areas I think you are cheating yourself. As with ANY workout program, especially ones involving weights, you should have a certified personal trainer demonstrate each exercise for you. If you do the exercises wrong, I agree with "Phi" that you could most definitely injure yourself.

Not true. Linville and Hound Ears have hotels. You can play if you are a guest there.

It is certainly hard not to be biased towards an area that you live in or have visited frequently, otherwise you wouldn't know about it if it was truly a "sleeper." Right? Anyways, we vacation to an area that I think is hard to beat. Linville-Banner Elk, North Carolina. This is in the NW part of the state up in the Blue Ridge Mountains. 1) Grandfather Golf and CC: Golf Digest Top 100....Magnificent 2) Diamond Creek CC: Newer course, Fazio Design....Will no doubt be top 100 when Golf Digest sees it. 3) Elk River CC: Nicklaus Design with Mountain and Valley 9's....Outstanding 4) Linville GC: Donald Ross 100 year old course...Charming and Magnificent. and don't get me started on the Esceola lodge. 5) Linville Ridge CC: Highest golf course east of the Rocky Mountains. Outstanding views and ongoing improvements to the course make it even better each year. 6) Hound Ears GC and Lodge: Short but super charming 18 holes with one of the most beautiful par 3's you will ever see. #15. All of these courses are within 5 minutes of each other. Certainly fits "sleeper" in my book. 1) Grandfather: http://www.grandfatherclub.org/ 2) Elk River: http://www.elkriverclub.com/gallery....=nicklaus_golf 3) Linville Ridge: http://www.linvilleridge.com/golf/golf.aspx 4) Linville GC: http://eseeola.com/golf 5) Diamond Creek: http://www.medalistgolfinc.com/past/dc/scenic1.html couldn't find anything better for #5.

Oh, so we're naming entire states now?
-
Yep, I was going to say "sixes" with different formats. By the way, I suggest deviating from alternate shot, or at least doing a variation of it where both players tee off and then alternate. (Scottish?). Anyways, alternate can be brutal, trust me.
