  1. My index generally stays in the 6 to 7 range. My good drives are in the 230 yd range. I don't play the tips, but I play at 6500 yd, par 72, 136 slope. There are a couple of holes that I seldom hit in regulation. I played in a shamble the other day with a scratch golfer, he hits it in the 270 yard range. It sure made the game easier hitting from his drives. I had 6 birdies, something I never have on my own drive. Par 5's become reachable and I'm hitting much shorter irons into par fours. There is no doubt that I would drop several strokes off my handicap if I was longer off the tee. I can putt with the best of them, but I have to be able to get there.

They asked for my ghin # so I assume you need one, at the event I played it was basically a best ball with full handicap. And there were some high handicap player's. You should be able to check the tournament website and if there are openings, and you have the cash, you should be good to go. I was just put with other singles to make a foursome. I wouldn't pay that much again, but it was worth it for a one time deal. One of my playing partners was a college kid, he had his dad caddieing and his whole family was following. It was a nice vacation for them.

    PGA Pro Am

I played in the John Deere back in 2006. I was paired with Pat Perez. We were the tee time just in front of Michele Wie so we had some crowds. It cost around $4000 but that included the coctail party on Monday to pick your pro, a golf tourney on Tuesday with local pro's, and ticket's for the week. We also got something like $700 to spend at the Titelist tent.
  4. I guess I have missed something. I'm hitting alot of pulls for some reason. I'm really all over the place. I shot 90 for god's sake. I do this every time I try something new. Maybe I'm trying to do to many changes at once.
  5. No problem as long as they keep up and don't expect me to spend alot of time looking for ball's.
  6. I also had the shaft break on a Cleveland driver. But that was my fault, I threw it toward the cart and it hit the ball washer. I told the Pro what had happened and Cleveland repaired it anyway. No charge, new shaft and grip. and it was a few years old.
  7. I had the head come off my 7 iron last fall. It was on the first hole of a tournament. It was muddy and it was a 3/4 shot. The head just flew off. It was my one year old AP-2 with project X shaft. It looked like the shaft was thin or rusty. Titlest replaced it, no questions asked. Same head, new shaft and grip.
  8. Well I got the book today. Ive read the first few chapters and I plan on hitting the range tomorrow. One thing that feels more natural to me is bringing the club more inside. This has alway's felt more natural to me, but the first thing a instructor wanted to change. I also generally don't take much of a divot and have a problem with casting and flipping my wrist. I can score OK and have had my index down below 3, but that is because I have a very good short game and I'm a good putter. As alway's I'm optimistic that this is the key to improving my game. We will see.
  9. The kid that bugs me is the one on the practice range. As soon as I set a club down he comes over to wipe off the club. Now I know the kid is just trying to make some money, but at least wait till I'm finished.
  10. As I said in my post, some guys just keep their clubs in their cars and don't tip. I don't have a problem with that. The kids are doing me a service so I don't mind tipping them. When I play somewhere else I generally don't tip the bag handlers unless they do something for me besides just loading my clubs on a cart.
  11. I'd don't discriminate by age. Maybe the older guy could use a few bucks also. He can alway's refuse or share it with the kids working there.
  12. At the clubs Ive been a member at its' pretty standard to tip the bag handlers. They are just trying to make a few bucks. I also tip the cart girl, bartenders, waitress's ect. The guys that don't want to tip generally just take their bags directly to their cars. My clubs are stored at the club and it is standard procedure for them to clean the clubs before putting them away, they are also on a cart when I get there so giving them a few bucks is worth it to me.
  13. I played in a pro-am and had my handicap questioned, I also noticed that everyone from the current club qualified last year for the ESPN challenge. It's hard to believe that with all the clubs in St. Louis everyone from our club won. And I don't believe that the guys are sandbagger's. I know I'm not. But it does appear that the rating or slope of the club is off. I know it must be hard to rate a course, I'm just supprized that there could be that much difference. I'm playing in the ESPN qualifier in August so I'll see how we stack up. I havn't played the club before so it will be interesting to see how we do. We will have to play good regardless.
  14. I have over 75 posted rounds in this year, and my playing buddies have about the same. So we get in alot of rounds. And we have different games but have all noticed the difference. And its around 4 strokes. That's alot. Guys that were around 1or 2 are now 4 or 5. I went from 2.6 as a low to 6.4 now and feel I'm playing good . I enjoy the chalenge and I'm not hung up on my index, I'm just suprized that it is that much different.
  15. I changed clubs last fall. All the clubs I looked at were willing to deal. It helped that there were 8 of us looking as a group. Several clubs offered us no fee's till April, cart fees waived, guest passes, reduced rates, reduced or no initiation fee's. There are many fine clubs in the area and most are looking for new members. If things were turned around they would have no problem charging more. It sure wouldn't hurt to ask.
  16. The club were our index's all went down was rated 72.0/129 @ 6610yds. The club were our index's have hall risen is rated 72.3/136 @ 6437yds. There are tee's at both clubs that go out over 7,000 yds, but that's to long for me.
  17. I am just suprized that with 8-10 players our average handicap's have swung 4 strokes or more. It's very noticable. We have all gone the same way.
  18. Guilty, I can't spell.
  19. I'm wondering if others have noticed a difference in handicap index's from one coarse to another. I joined a club back in 2006 that was very difficult, lots of water hazard's, elevated greens, ect. Then I and about 8 others went to another local club and all of our handicap's dropped 4-6 strokes. The slope ratings are similar, but the other coarse, a Tom Fazio layout was just easier. Now we are back at the original club and all of our handicaps have risen. This makes us very tough in handicap events, but I though slope ratings were suppose to take care of this. Ive gone from a 2.4 index to 6.4, and feel that I am playing just as well. The only difference is if you make a mistake at our current club, a PB Dye layout, you bring double into play. There are many forced water carries and placement is key. With all the talk of sandbagging, sometimes I wonder if the ratings are correct. Both coarses had ratings in the 130's and play around 6500 from the mens tees. I don't play the champ tees.
  20. I'm in with a few of my buddies. I know several guys that made it to vegas last year. We beat the guys that went last year on monday. My partner and I are in the net division, I had a very good round and we advance to the next step.
  21. I played in the ESPN two man on monday. It was at my home coarse and my handicap is up to 8 now. I shot two over, my best round so far. It does happen.

    Distance

I'm a short hitter too. I only hit my drives around 230. There are a couple of 440 yard par 4's that I rarely hit in requlation. The guys I play with routinly hit it 25-50 yards or more past me. The coarse I play at has zoysia fairways and we don't seem to get much roll, and we either play from 6610yds or 7047yds, par 71. But we had a few tournements that we played at 6205 yds, I'm a good 3-4 shots better from that distance. I wish I could get it out there another 25yds or so as I could shave a few strokes off.
  23. I play 5 to 6 times a week. 12:30 during the week and 8:00 on the weekend. I generally take a day off to do some things around the house, or just to take a break. Ive already posted just over 100 scores to the GHIN and we didn't start posting till sometime in March. And we have had alot of rain outs.
  24. I hit 10 greens yesterday and still shot 80. Two doubles and two three putts hurt. Also no birdies. I had a bad start, five over after 3, we have one cut of rough and next to that is the hay. I was in the hay the first two holes.
  25. My golf buddie's always offer to pay for my golf lessons because they make much more from the side bets with me. I was shooting 72-78 and after my two lesson's I have shot 78-82. Hopefully in the long run it will be worth it .
