I use the CG10's which are also excellent. I've always been a Cleveland fan for wedges.

Well done - I'm aiming for the same goal this year but it isn't quite happening yet. I'm up to 11.1 . I reckon the pressure of trying to get single figures is hurting my game. Hopefully now you've got there you can relax a little and shoot even lower!

I worked at the pelz putting technique for quite some time and found it ackward. Recently I bought a 'Yes True Putt' putting rail with helps create an 'inside to square to inside stroke' (like Tiger's). I've not been using it long but it feels better to me. I agree however that the Short Game Bible is a superb book.

I'm working on roughly the same goal and for me it's all about short game. My irons and tee shots are pretty okay but from 100 yards and in I'm poor. If you haven't read Pelz short game bible I'd recommned it. I average 37 putts per round which normally includes a couple of three putts. This is an obvious area for improvement for everybody. Trying to hole ten in a row from three feet is a good practise drill - start over if you miss one.

37 for me. Very poor. My low for the season is 32 and my high is 39. I don't make many from outside 10 feet and I miss a lot inside 3 feet. I'm currently petitioning my wife to turn the back garden into a putting green - she isn't keen.

+2 for me which I think was 71 (can't recall the course par). I had a triple bogey 8 at the second and after that played really really solid. It felt really easy, no stupid shots, no missed putts and a couple of decent breaks.

I'm from Aberdeen and hope to move back there soon. The area needs a major economic boost and this is a fabolous opportunity. It is a national embarrassment and disgraceful that short sited Aberdeenshire councillors initially blocked this. I whole heartedly support the development and believe that Trump will build a superb course and bring a miriad of economic benefits to an essentially rural area. There is a small environmental lobby acting against this course in the mistaken belief that they are protecting an endangered area of coastline. This is not the case, Trump's development would support the coastline and the wildlife of the area. All right minded Scottish people and particulalry those in the Aberdeen area have rallied behind this proposal. Aberdeen is a fantastic area to visit and anyone looking to play some great Scottish courses would do well to visit the area, Royal Aberdeen, Murcar, Cruden Bay and Nairn are all first rate and hopefully a modern development by Mr Trump will bring increased tourism and opportunity to my home town. (For info a number of superb modern links courses have recently been built in Scotland and both these and the traditional links courses mentioned by many others mean Scotland remains one of the best golfing holidays in the world.)

I'm always disappointed if I don't score well. My regular course is fairly short with quite wide fairways (par 68) so if I feel I need to score under 75 to be happy with my round. Also playing well in the short game areas always satisfies me. I'd rather score 78 and scramble well than 77 with loads of GIR's.

79 with 1 penalty stroke and 39 putts. 39!!!

I have never noticed a tangible diferrence between any type of tee.

I grew up playing at Insch Golf Club in Aberdeenshire, Scotland - while it is far from the best course in the world it will always remain my favourite. In terms of 'name' courses the best I've played are; St Andrews (old) Gleneagles (Kings) Winged Foot Quaker Ridge Piping Rock (NY)

4 holes. Get it finished on the day, 1 is too short 18 too many.

Even against todays irons I think it is hard to beat a set of Ping Eye2's in decent shape - plenty available on ebay and relatively easy to work out the custom fit options for yourself. I definetly agree with comments above re: taking your time and shopping around on ebay!
-
No. Golf is about getting your ball into the hole in the lowest number of shots and via your skill in doing so beating your opponents - whether the contest is stroke or match play. I'm not into gamesmanship of this type.

I agree that in this arena some older models remain realistic options against the current crop. I still use an old Burner Bubble (first generation). As you'll remember the red paint came away badly and mine is now nearly silver all over but it remains such a fine club. Always a safe bet from the tee and very eady to pick up off the fairway. I tend to avoid woods from rough but this could do it. You'd probably pick one up for under $25 on ebay. A definite bargain!

Just noticed you also mention Insch GC - did you play the old nine hole layout or the new18?

Grew Up playing in North East Scotland at Insch Golf club. In that area I have also played Cruden Bay, Royal Aberdeen and Nairn which are all fine courses. Prior to university I spent 6 months working at Gleneagles hotel and was regulalry able to play all three courses. There are few things finer than a summer evening on The Kings Course. At University I went to St Andrews and played all the courses there - holed a 5 footer on the 18th at the Old Course for a 79 on my 21st birthday (my greatest golfing moment to date). In the states I spent a couple of summers working and playing at Piping Rock Club on Long Island NY, was also lucky enough to play Quaker Ridge and Winged Foot. I also caddied for a friend in a US Open qualifier at Bethpage Black (he shot about 90 - that course is tough as hell!) I now live in Leeds, England and play a number of courses in the area including Temple Newsam, Middleton, South Leeds and Oulton Park. I'm going across to Clecheaton next week to play an Alistair Mackenzie course which should be fun.

75. 7 over par including a triple bogey and a double on the 18th. Not at all bad! Has moved my hanidcap from 11.5 to 10.6. Still hoping to be 8 or better by the end of thje season. Benefits of short game practise (Pelz system) beginning to show. I gave myself 5 decent birdie chances and converted 2.

I go for Pelz. I feel if you focus on straight back and through the stroke stays solid. In reality if my stroke was closely analyzed I don't doubt that it might go slightly inside however that's not what I'd ever concentrate upon.
-
Heck, 2 feet in front of the ball sounds mental - no chance I'm ever trying that under pressure! I've never really thought about looking at anything other than the ball; the key for me is to try and keep my head relatively still as I swing down and through.
-
Love the 'honey-do' list! Never heard that term before will be using it from now on - I have such a list most evenings and weekends therefore AM golf is my prime time on the fairway. The only thing I dislike is having to wait for the greenkeeper to mow the greens!
-
Not there yet although my ambition for the year is sub 8. I've been working hard on the wedges inside 100 yards based on Dave Pelz Short Game Bible. I reckon with a few more greens in regulation I should be single figures. As many above have noted for me it is about getting the time to practise.
