Irons: The owner of the course said "Check these out - I got them in on trade (he knows I like Ping). It was much too good of a price to pass up. Wedges: Bought the 52 to replace my old ISI - suddenly I could make shots around the green, so I bought the 58 too. Putter: I bought a Ping G2i B60 used and it just didn't work for me. My uncle liked it so much he got me the NC to replace it - and he's lights out with the Ping so I think he likes the deal he made.

I have a Columbia jacket. With the zip in fleece liner it's a very warm jacket, and if I take the liner out it's still pretty comfortable. It's waterPROOF, which is a big jump up from water RESISTANT. I spent a night waiting in line for an Xbox 360 in a light drizzle and was as dry as a bone while others around me were miserable. Without the liner it's not too bulky to play golf in. Pants weren't as important to me, just enough material to keep me from getting soaked through.

Went out today and walked 18. I shot 99 - which is the first time I have broken 100. I am so stoked!

Whistle while you swing. If you can keep whistling smoothly your tempo is fine. It helped me to stop snatching the club on the takeaway.

Joined a local golf course the other day. I added up all the rounds I've paid for in the last 3 months and it's a bargain.

I saw some PineMeadow clubs at Academy the other day. That would explain why I'm seeing them more and more around here.

Butch Harmon put it best, almost as an afterthought on one of his instructional DVDs: "...and of course, Jack Nicklaus, the greatest golfer this game has ever seen..." I think I'll go with his opinion (since it's mine as well). Is Tiger the greatest golfer of THIS generation? Certainly. Is he "better than Jack ever was?" I don't think so. I grew up watching Jack play. Quite frankly, the only reason he doesn't have more majors to his name is the fact that he took quite a bit of time off to spend with his family. He took a lot of heat for it at the time, but it only makes me respect his accomplishments more.

I second the craigslist suggestion. If you could spend around 450-500, I'd say head to Best Buy as they had some good closeout/clearance models this week. As far as the wireless, I would upgrade to a G router, as they hold a signal better than the B will. You can even pick up an N spec router for 100 bucks now.

That's the problem with the Internet. Would you crack on a complete stranger's game on the course? No, you wouldn't (unless they were walking and you were driving by in your car :D ) As for telling folks to lighten up: I laugh at myself all the time. (It keeps me from crying). I think I just perceived the chart as laughing AT golfers with a high handicap rather than WITH us. Perhaps I was overreacting. It's just the teacher in me. Beginners of any activity don't do well when others emphasize their flaws without offering advice on how to fix said flaws.

Your wild generalizations are insulting. That's what we have a problem with. I know my deficiencies as a golfer, and I don't need you to belittle my game. When you were a high handicapper did you appreciate low handicappers insulting you?

So, by your classification system we should add "Pompous ass" to the 5-10 handicap range?
