  1. Range use for me: - consistency... like shooting free throws... must grow in confidence - club distances... chart them every time... review the data... will enlighten you - pitching area.... wow, went Wed night and worked on 35 yard chips to the stick, paid off the very next round where I had 3 of those and all led to one putts. - sand area.... I can NEVER get enough sand practice. It's one of those areas where you think you've got it all figured out and BAM... 4 strokes later you're still in the trap looking like you starred in Caddy Shack. I definitely like the idea of putting the bucket of balls behind you, forcing you to start over each swing. That puppy is going into the routine this week. Thanks for that one!
  2. You usually get what you pay for.
  3. Once you've had HD... you can't go back... it's such a difference maker.
  4. I'm just over 6'1" and I just recently really started to focus on "compression". My preshot routine goes.... grip, stance (target line), set hips, spine angle...etc. The LAST thought that goes through my head is "compression".... so that on my down swing I am blasting through that ball and getting a divot after impact. I'm a scrub player so for the longest time I was getting divots behind or just at the ball and was trying to "pick" the ball off the ground. The "compression" thought has made a big difference for me and I'm now getting that "whiiiiizzzzzzz" from the ball as it leaves the club face and starts its flight path. Then again, the whiiiiiizzzz could be coming from a feathered ball that I hit out of the desert :)

    handicap

If you are back into golf with a passion; just play the 5 rounds. You could knock 2 out on a sick day Monday.... knock two out on Saturday... get the 5th in on Sunday. Got your 5 rounds in one week, had an absolute BLAST golfing on a "sick day", and you'll not have cheated. Remember, with the golf "passion" comes the golf "integrity". Also, a lot of executive courses have USGA ratings so I am pretty sure you could play 5 of those and get your handicap calculated... they play faster and you can get a round in probably around 2 1/2 hours. In Henderson, KY it looks like there are a variety of executive style courses that may work for you.
  6. When I go above 75% swing speed I slice like crazy. Telling myself to throttle down is a challenge at each drive. Your thinking about the 4 or 5 things you want to make sure are right; grip, stance, balance, spine angle, and tempo. The other 200 things that I should be doing I can't worry about right now :) With that said, I hit about 220 to 240 at 75% and have a ton of control. The problem is on the course; you always have dog legs, elevation changes, narrow fairways, and don't leave out weather... so I find myself thinking... "I gotta hit this one harder to make this work.." bam... slice 40 yds into the desert.... oh I got 250 yds down range... but I'm dodging rattle snakes looking for a $2 ball. Yesterday I went 75% on a hard dog leg right par 4 and that HiBore driver and that HX Hot Bite ball earned every bit of R&D; money spent on them by the manufacturers.... ball went 300+ yards and I found myself 20 yards from pin, just off the elevated green. I spent the rest of the round trying to duplicate what I did... yeah right.... so I know the distance is in there at 75% but I need to now work on duplicating the body coil, the uncoil, and the rotation of wrists during impact that I "obviously" got right on that one swing at 75%.
  7. 98 at Fred Enke :( One snow man 3 7's Good: 3 pars and 1 birdie... and a 300+ drive to get the birdie.
  8. mrobbie... is Dubai as cool of a place to live as I think it would be?!? Just seems like it would be some kind of fun place.
  9. When you get your yardages figured out .... trust them. I was in a best ball tourney up in Phoenix and I was hitting last on the 2nd shot since we used my drive... I was the 3rd best player in the group so I was thrilled they used my drive; by the time it got to me we had 2 balls in the water and one in a greenside bunker. GPS on the cart showed 166 yards, consulted by yardage card and it was a dead on 6i... it looked further than 166.. and I was leaning to the 5i... told myself to trust my card.. hit the 6i and made a good swing... 6' from the pin and we birdied the hole. Point is... get your yardages... use them... trust them... don't outthink yourself, the course, your bag, or your know-it-all partner. As for getting my yardages... the ranges I go to have yardage markers but the boxes are always shifting due to seeding the grass, etc... so those distances are not accurate. I used them for some "general" yardages. When I'm on the course I really focus on distance to pin (GPS) or center of green (non-GPS) and then if I make a good swing, then chart the yardage. No point in writing anything down if you're fat with the shot, top the ball, or some other goof-up. After about 4 or 5 rounds you should really have some good numbers. You can always club up/down based on lie or weather.
  10. Funny thing is most high handi's are 75% fairway hitters 75% of their rounds.... the other 25% they are 50% fairway hitters.... we only like to remember the good rounds and not the ones we go through two sleeves of balls including 2 balls on the same hole :) I'm at my most accurate with the driver when I'm swinging 75% power. Forcing the brain to connect to the arms and body is a challenge at times. I give up 15/20 yards in distance but I'm not digging through cactus and dodging rattlesnakes looking for balls either. I think it is also important to be playing the right tee boxes... I see a lot of players playing back boxes and not carrying to the landing areas. Just kills pace of play as well.
  11. I absolutely love it. Nearly a full 365 day golfing year. My favorite is the dead of summer... June thru August.... 100+ and courses clear out... stay in great shape... I love it. The best is mid to late February when everything North and East of Vegas is hating winter... we're teeing off in peak season.
  12. 1. Reducing penalty strokes. 2. Reducing three putts. 3. Getting the divot at the ball and forward... versus n00b shots. 4. Iron out pre shot routine and stick with one that works. 5. Quit watching the hot UofA Womens Golf Team practice... too distracting.
  13. Checked my handgun with the starter (rattlers are waking up here in Tucson) and saying "hello" to everyone. Stumbled upon your website/forums and am looking forward to spending a lot of time here.
  14. Tiger is a witch.... when he's stinking up the joint (Masters) he is still better than 99% of the field.
  15. My favorite local course: http://www.arizonanationalgolfclub.c...id=21&page;=594 So many to choose from in Tucson :)
  16. Manage the lending and collections department for a credit union. Bankers hours w00t!!! :)
