  1. 56 degree, sand wedge, bumps, pitches, chips, 100 yards and in. Favorite club in the bag.
  2. 7.1 Series Solus wedges. Better feel than Cleveland or Vokey (too me), they got alot of bite to them on the greens too.
  3. Here is a little tip that we all can try out. To make more putts, your palms must be squared with each other. To properly feel this grip, take a scrap 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 piece of wood, maybe 12" long. Grip it with a hand on each side, with your palms gripping the 2" side. Then practice your stroke, this is what a square grip should feel like. Now just take that feeling and grip and use it on your putter. Try it, when I keep my palms squared, I really make alot more 10' and shorter putts. If you have trouble still feeling the squared grip, try going to an oversize putter grip, or just go to your local sporting goods store and get a few tennis grip overwraps, build up your grip until it feels comfortable.
  4. Down in the rough or off the fairway, but rollin' it in the short grass. Our area munis don't exactly have great grass from tee to green. I should not be punished for striping it down the middle only to find a bare spot in the fairway. Now when I am on a fine course or in a tourney, I never touch the ball.
  5. Fairways and greens pardner....
  6. The first time I ever shot even par, that afternoon in my second round, I shot 1 under for my first ever under par round. 2 weeks later I shot 4 under, 68. Threw a few more rounds at 70 or 71 down over that summer then finally 8 years later, shot 67, missed a 8 footer for 66. Ouch!! Haven't shot under par since then (almost a year!) I hate this game....
  7. Redstone Golf Course, Tournament Course, home of the Shell Houston Open.
  8. I prefer using a 60 degree wedge for this shot. The tighter (cleaner) the lie the better. Good fluffy, soft lies that we all like are better for pitches and flops. I just put 2 new wedges in my sons' bag, Solus 7.1 Series 56 and 61 degree. He loves them, says he can stop the from the fairway and the green side chips, pitches and bumps. We had tried them out at a Golfweek Demo day at a local driving range, we fell in love with the 7.1 Series 56 degree sand wedge. So I bought them. They also had the Series 4.1 cavity backs, but they did not feel good at all to klunky.
  9. After every shot. I use a thing called a Groove Tube, plastic bottle with a plastic brush mounted on the top of it. You fill it with water, as you brush the club head with the top, water comes out and cleans your grooves. Then just wipe it dry with a towel. Maximum groove action on every shot! I picked it up at an off course golf store. Great buy.
  10. For good, consistent contact, you must ground your club. I have taught my son this method over the years, it sets your limits, your target area for contact, etc. 75% of your bad shots come from an inconsistent setup and grounding your club is one of the first steps in your setup.
  11. I range during the year from a 6 to an 8 handicap and used to always love playing the Titleist Tour Balata back in the 90's, then the Professional and like the Pro V's now. But for the money ($20 for 2 dozen), you can't beat the Laddie X. I play 2-3 times a month, in the past year I have shot 67 at a local muni and also shot as high as 86 at a tougher course a few hours from here. The one constant was the Laddie X. I agree with the earlier post that a good golfer will still be good no matter the ball, as a bad golfer will still be a bad golfer with a Pro V in his hand.
