Tips for Chipping and Putting?
BostonBrew replied to JacksonJ13's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Saw this today. I think it's a pretty good synopsis of the basics. http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-instruction/2013-07/adam-scott-short-game-basics Also, if you search "chipping" or "putting" in the forum search, you'll get a ton of threads already touching on these topics. -
This coming November. Back on topic of the tournament though, Horschel shot 68 while only hitting 5 fairways. That's impressive with this rough. It's not Merion-like rough, but it looks thicker than the average Tour stop.

Yeah I agree. Golf.com called them prototypes: "Titleist’s current stable of irons—MB, CB, AP1 and AP2 (712 series)—has enjoyed a strong two-year run on Tour and in the marketplace. However, two years is a long life cycle by today’s standards so you should expect the next-generation MB, CB, AP1 and AP2 (714 series) at retail in mid-November. As part of the company’s “performance validation process,” Titleist brass took prototype 714 irons to the PGA Tour this week at the AT&T; National in Bethesda, MD. Titleist (like other club companies) typically doesn’t share every minute design enhancement so far ahead of launch. But here’s what we do know: Players love the look and feel of the current MB and CB. The new irons will be quite similar visually to the 712 series with an emphasis placed on a refined sole design that makes it easier to get the club in and out of the turf. Multi-material AP1 and AP2 irons (712 series) are well balanced in terms of workability, forgiveness and feel. In short, the clubs look small and play big. The company’s already proven it knows how to boost inertia in a clubhead without increasing blade length and to produce a muscleback feel in a cavity back. Unquestionably, the fourth-generation AP1 and AP2 (714 series) will possess even more forgiveness while maintaining the combination of workability and feel that these "Advanced Performance" sticks are known for." Here's a picture of the AP1s in Ben Curtis' bag.

President's Cup?

Just came across this. Pretty funny.

Quick Google search for Titleist 714 shows some recently uploaded pictures. Another great looking line of clubs from Titleist.

It looks like the club gets a little inside your hands in the backswing? (1st swing) Other than that, it's a solid looking golf swing.

Saw a quick piece on Golf.com stating Titleist has their prototype 714s in play this weekend. Hope someone grabs a couple snapshots of them.

Great video and pretty much confirms what I thought was the general consensus on ball position on trajectory. The video in the OP was the first I've heard of the other school of thought. On a side note, I wish I could hit my 6 iron 190ish... haha

Couldn't care less. I'd rather he withdraw if he's hurt than try and play for some arbitrary attendance statistic.

This. Only put the water on the right.

Went with Jason Day, Bill Haas, Billy Horschel, and Brendon de Jonge. I've become a big Billy Horschel fan this year. The kid just goes out and plays solid golf with complete confidence.

Good stuff man. Glad to hear you're putting in the time and effort to improve. The video shows a mixture of good and bad. And your description of Sunday's round is something we've all experienced. But that's usually inevitable with swing changes.

Trust me. QBs still are incredibly important. I've played with these rules for 3-4 years now and I've often considered grabbing a top QB in 1st or 2nd round because of how big a difference they make in a team. As I'm sure you've experienced, there are games where guys like Brady or P. Manning will have you cursing the other team hahaha.

Picking a Top 3 in any sport is difficult. Golf is no different. Nicklaus, Palmer, Jones, Hogan, Snead, Woods, etc. You have to leave out so many greats. Basketball is no different. So many great players. Lebron will be a part of that discussion though. He's a hell of a player and I'm not a big fan. But there is no denying the guy has as abnormal amount of talent that puts him in the "Great Players" discussion. With that said, when he and Carmelo were still in high school, I said Carmelo would be a better pro player... so shows what I know. Hahaha

2 days on waivers. I like 4 pts on passing TDs because I think when you bump it up to 6 pts, it puts too much power in the QB position. You don't have WRs or RBs regularly scoring 3-5 TDs a game like you do QBs.
-
I believe Yahoo uses the same as ESPN and many others. 25 yds passing = 1 pt Pass TD = 4 pts 10 yds rushing = 1 pt 10 yds rec = 1 pt Rush and Rec TD = 6 pts 1 QB, 3 WRs, 2 RBs, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF, 6 Bench spots I'd also be willing to vote on adding a Flex spot for W/R/T instead of the 3rd WR

Standard Yahoo rules. League size will be 10-14 hopefully. Buy-in is still in discussion. Looking into methods to use PayPal for buy-ins or some other way. Awesome. Just message me an email address and I'll send an invite.

I had a discussion with a cousin at a recent family get-together and thought it would be interesting to see others' responses. We were talking about all the crap that goes on with other sports. Mainly football (physical abuse, NCAA recruiting violations, drug abuse, character flaws i.e. Aaron Hernandez), baseball (PED use), and basketball (more NCAA recruiting violations, the culture of AAU). I then mentioned that, hypothetically, if I had kids, I would direct them towards golf. Not just because I'm an avid golfer, but because of all the benefits of the game on their character and health. She agreed because she likes that its a game people can play for most of their life, the networking benefits that come along with it, and that its less physically abusive. So are we with the majority of people in this line of thought? Obviously there are the die-hards who think football, baseball, and basketball are the only "real" sports. Is this the possible cause for seeing more and more athletic types playing golf? We also acknowledged that there are those who would say you shouldn't "push" kids in a certain direction, but should let them choose. And to that I would say I'm not holding a gun to their head. I'd simply be trying to influence them in a direction I believe they would benefit greatly from, like telling them not to use drugs.

Whats your Avg Drive swing speed?
BostonBrew replied to Coleoneps's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Hahaha yeah. This has become very similar to the Average Distance thread. -
Got up early to beat the heat this morning. Walked 9. Shot a painfully bad 43. Started off with a clutch 8 foot putt to save par after missing the first green. Then 3 putted the next two holes (3 over thru 3). I was fuming at that point. Parred the longer par 5 4th. Doubled the stupid-easy par 4 5th (hanging my head). Bogeyed 6. (talking to myself at this point) Parred the next two holes. Bogeyed 9 to end on a high note of course. Walked off the course fairly dismayed. 4/7 Fairways 3/9 GIR 18 Putts

Definitely wouldn't mind if the pace of play was very slow, that's for sure.

Can't fix my driver slice, any advice?
BostonBrew replied to Eleven13's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
By all means, work out what ever it is you're doing. Driving the ball is one of the more fun parts of the game in my opinion. And an important one for playing well.
