  1. In my 9 hole money game last week I had 6 in a row after starting Bogie, Tripple, Bogie.
  2. I have a Nike Dymo adjustable and by no means do I use it to "cover up" a swing flaw….even if I did why would you care? I tinker with it all the time and often adjust the face +/- 1* depending on the majority of the shots I need to play at a particular course. They are so simple to figure out even a caveman can do it. My advice, embrace technology and don't worry what others use….especially if it helps them enjoy the game more.
  3. Damn fine deal right there
  4. I only improve my lie if I have a bad one Um, no. Play the ball down (period), your conscious will thank you and so will your wallet…………………..with-that-said, vanity cappers are welcome in my group anytime . Those that "almost always" play the ball down "almost" have an accurate handicap.
  5. I've known for a long time but yesterday afternoon was the final confirmation that I am no golf instructor. My son just recently starting taking interest in the game and participated in a group lesson. Well yesterday was the first time that he expressed interest in hitting balls with me. We headed over to the course and went straight to the range. He has a pretty solid foundation and damn fine swing for someone that has only hit balls a handful of times. I picked up a couple things right away but had no idea how to translate these mistakes to where he could understand them….even tougher was trying to have him incorporate fixes into his swing. The more I talked and the more I tried to teach the more confused and frustrated he became. So I stopped and told him to have fun. I've been playing this game for well over 30 years and I play the game well. This in no way qualifies me to instruct or teach. My advice, leave it to the pros and certified instructors.
  6. Not sure if the shaft you are looking for is on this list , but it is a good comparison nonetheless.
  7. I made a sweet putt for a 9 a couple weeks ago on an easyish 390 dogleg left par 4. 3 in the woods off the tee (kinda Tin Cup'd it), approach shot to 20 feet but left myself a tricky downhill slider, drained the putt. Still wound up shooting 36 on the front and 39 on the back .
  8. +1 Cobra Pro MB are some of the slickest things since sliced bread.
  9. I am definitely in the minority because I never use a tee with my irons. Why you may ask….I don't use a tee from the fairway and that is where I hit the majority of my irons. Same lie, same swing, and typically the same result. Whatever floats your boat I guess.
  10. Ours starts this week. We have 32 people in our championship flight with HDCP's ranging from +3 to 8. As I posted in my blog yesterday my draw is awful! My first match on paper should be a slam dunk but I have seen this guy go low….extremely low. If I make it through him the reigning match play champ and club champ 3 out of the last 4 years is next. He and I play a 9-hole mock match last night after our money game. I won 2 up and shot a 35 (in the wind and rain). He and I are the favorites in our bracket but there are 2 others from the bottom bracket that are fantastic golfers. Both are in their 50's, neither of them make mistakes, and anything inside 10' is almost automatic. I hate playing guys like that but I absolutely love match play. The good news is our course is in fantastic shape. The greens have fully recovered and are lush and true. The rough is long and thick and will truly penalize you for any errant shot. Many of the small trees that were planted several years ago are growing like weeds and will also make you pay the price. Good luck to everyone this match play season!
  11. How bout - IMATOOL . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . I kid, I kid.
  12. New HDCP revision puts me back on the + side (+0.6 to be exact)….first time I have been there in years. 2010 key stats below: Scoring Average - 73.6 Putts - 29.82 Fairways - 8.34 (about 60%) GIR - 11.62 (about 64%) Sand Saves - 33% U&D;'s - 41% Eagles per round - 0.05 Birdies per round - 3.30 Pars per round - 10.10 Bogies per round - 4.20 DBL or worse - 0.20 Last 10 rounds - 72, 79, 75, 75, 69, 73, 71, 74, 75, 72 I'm very happy with my set-up and feel I have most yardages covered. Going back to blades was the best decision I have made in years…and matched with Rifle 6.5 I believe these clubs are the perfect match. I also put my Nike Dymo back in the bag several weeks ago. It's a little higher lofted and I give up a few yards over my Callaway but I have been hitting a sh*tload of fairways and still putting it out there plenty far enough. I need moocho work form the beach and need to work harder on putts over 30' but overall I'm close. Match-play tournament started this week and I have my first match this weekend. Not to look too far ahead but my draw sucks. If I get past my first match I'll be playing last years winner and the club champ 3 of the last 4 years (and he happens to be one of my good friends). O.k. I'm done
  13. 72 (35-37) yesterday. 5 birdies and 5 bogies. Put my Nike Dymo into play and I hit it very well. Irons were crisp (all my birdies were inside 10'). Chunked 1 chip and missed 3 putts inside 5' but overall not too bad. My index will be below 0 as soon as I put in my last 5 scores. 35 on Friday p.m. 1 eagle, 2 birdies, 1 bogie, and 1 double. The eagle was nice…510 into about a 5-10 MPH wind, nutted my drive and still had 235 in, 3-wood to about 4'. Had the traditional PEFU with a 3 putt dbl bogie on a 170 yd downwind par 3. BTW, PEFU is an acronym for POST EAGLE FU*K UP.
  14. I have nothing constructive, insightful, or discerning to add to this thread other then the majority of if is an absolute train wreck. It's kind of like watching my kids argue over pizza toppings. At least it is semi-entertaining….carry on. BTW….name calling on an internet forum, weak.
  15. Played 2 rounds over the weekend. Hit the ball real solid from tee to green but my short game and putting were non existent. 73 (35-37) on Saturday 77 (37-40) on Sunday (took a 9 on an easy par 4 on the back) Scored relatively well in my Tuesday money game yesterday. Hit the ball like sh*t but was able to get up-n-down 6 out of 6 times…..only had 11 putts. 35 (1 birdie and 8 pars)
  16. Ummm, no…..absolutely not. Ya'll use em if you want, I honestly couldn't care less. To me they are a joke and complete waste of money and time. If a little bag chatter influenced the outcome of the shot I may consider using them. I swing the things into the ground and hit a hard white ball with them….If I was worried about dings, chatter, scratches, etc I'm sure I would suck at golf.
  17. Just got back from Grand Traverse . Beautiful resort, tough but beautiful courses, crappy weather. 24 guys, 5 rounds of golf, $280 each in betting, 2 flights……doesn't get much better then this. Day #1 Wolverine (50*, rain, 20 mhp winds) 75-Solid all day from tee to green with no major blow up holes. Buried the field by miles (everybody else was bitching about the rain). Took low front-back-totals, 3 skins and 1 CTP for about $165. Day #2 The Bear a.m. (43*, on and off rain, 25+ mph winds) - Ryder Cup pairs 81-Struggled mightily all day around the greens. Hit the ball decent but the winds made it very difficult to score. My partner and I dismantled our competitors 4&3. Took 1 skin and 1 CTP for about $50 Day #2 Spruce Run p.m. (47*, cloudy, wind gusts over 30 mph) - Ryder Cup Team totals scores 77-Awful front nine (41), decent back (36). Easiest course of the 3. Winds played havoc on everyone again. Our team won by 22 strokes, another shellacking. Took 2 skins and low back for about $75 Day #3 Wolverine a.m. (60+*, sun, 10 mph winds) - Ryder Cup singles 74-My best round of the weekend (except for taking a stupid triple on #17). Beat my competitor 3&2. Won 2 skins, low front-back-and totals, and 3 CTP's for a very lucrative $200 + another $50 for winning the Ryder Cup. Day #3 The Bear p.m. (65*, sun, light winds) - Scramble 60-Played with 2 guys that are lucky to break 100 and the other is about a 12 hdcp. Always seemed to have a ball in play off the tee before I hit and I was "on" with my irons. My other teammates could not miss a putt! We won by 2 strokes and had 2 skins adding $100 plus to my pocketbook. All in all I pocketed about $650 for the weekend.
  18. I can, with a bad, steep swing. Anyway, the OP asked the question for woods in general...not driver specific. Like I said it happened to me last year. Doesn't matter that I had already hit a couple hundred balls before it happened...bottom line is it happened. I am not (nor ever will be) immune to making mistakes....just sayin' Ha, that's good. I have always been an aggressive swinger and still tend to get steep from time to time, and to be honest I have never worried about it. I'll keep swinging the way that provides the best results fo me...even if that means a skymark every few years.
  19. mmm....some dam fine strikers of the ball on these here forums Anyway, sure there are single digit cappers that get those idiot marks. It's tough to do with a driver but it can be done. After a marathon range session last year I missed a ball so bad that I put one on the toe And yes, I have also put them on my fairway woods trying to dig a ball out of a fluffy lie. Common, no....has it happend, yes. Maybe some day I'll be good enough not to
  20. Don't worry, he won't be proven wrong. We may see several approach 300 but we will also see several snap hooks or banana slices that go as far left or right as they do straight.
  21. A big ass yellow fuzzy headed troll doll.
  22. So, if somebody posts a score that is unobtainable for you then they must be cheating? I play in 1 scramble every year and 1 scramble only. The others I play with are all fantastic players and we've posted -20 on several occasions. No "mulligans" and no cheating.
  23. 33 (-3) last night on a cool, windy evening. Not my best score but probably the best overall 9 holes I have ever played. Hole 1 - Uphill 380 yard par 4 Pushed my drive into right rough, 9 iron ballooned into the wind, chip from ditch in front to green to 5 feet, 1 putt par Hole 2 - Dogleg left 370 yard par 4 Perfect 3 wood center of fairway, 56* to 15 feet, disappointing 3 putt bogie Hole 3 - Straight 415 par 4 Perfect drive into crosswind to the 150 marker, 9 iron to 20 feet on the front of green, 2 putt par Hole 4 - Short & tricky 320 par 4 Perfect hybrid to 90 yards, 60* to 12 feet, 2 putt par Hole 5 - 160 heavily bunkered par 3 8 iron to 8 feet, 1 putt birdie Hole 6 - Easiest hole on course, downwind 475 yard par 5 Flushest drive of the day to 175 yards, 7 iron approach to greenside bunker, bunker shot to 2 feet, 1 putt birdie Hole 7 - 175 par 3 into the wind 6 iron to 15 feet, lipped out for birdie, 2 putt par Hole 8 - Toughest 440 par 4 around into the wind Perfect drive to 182, uphill and into the wind 5 iron to 3 feet, 1 putt birdie Hole 9 - Slight dogleg right 500 yard par 5 into the wind Perfect drive to 210 yards, 4 iron pin high left rough, flop shot over bunker to 6 feet, 1 putt birdie Other then not taking enough club on #1's approach and a dumb 3 putt from 15 feet it was as solid as I have played in years. I've shot 33 several times and 32 once but overall this round was superior in every category. . 6 of 7 fairways 8 of 9 greens 14 putts
  24. Listen, I think the majority of us "low" cappers are not questioning that you "high" cappers have the potential to hit a 285 (or ever 300) yard drive….but coming on here and spouting that you AVERAGE 285 yards is beyond ridiculous. We've all played with crappy golfers that generate crazy club head speed and "when they catch it" the ball goes crazy distances. These same guys also hit the ball just as far left/right as they do straight. A solid and repeatable swing that generates enough club head speed to hit consistent 285 yard drives does not come from 20ish cappers. I would love for somebody to prove me wrong…but that has yet to happen over 30 years playing this game. Carry on…..
