I realize that Bobby Jones was a great golfer.

I have been playing a Scotty Cameron putter but recently tried a tour Edge T-Balance putter. I find the T-Balance club is very easy to line up and very easy to control speed. Bottom Line I am sinking more puts.

I like corona gorda sized cigars, Avo, partagas, La Gloria cubana, Arturo Fuente, monte cristo or just about any other good cigar... dominicans are my smoke of choice but Hondurans are o.k. as well.

today I shot 90. I am very dissapointed with the round because of what I feel is inexcusable innapropriate behavior by a group of golfers that should know better. The course today is extremely wet and we followed cart path only rules. My golfing buddy and I used a cart this morning but this is not the point... we followed a group of 5 and all went well on the front 9 (I shot a 40 6 bogies in a row then par, par, birdie) I went to the 10th box feeling really good. It was on the 10th fairway that the problems started... an aged group of 5 caught us on the tee and watched the two of us tee off... I had a perfect drive, my partner was right and in a puddle of water... As I approached my ball a member of the group behind us yelled at the top of his lungs from the Tee Box Hit the F''''kkkng ball already! Well folks I limped in with a 50 on the back and I was very angry .. we encountered several more comments and rude behaviors from the group of aged southern men... (this could have been racially motivated) I am a person of color living in the South.... (we usually do not have any problems) I hope that the outburst had nothing to do with my color and more to do with the offensive person having a bad day... any way I shot 90 with 33 putts on a wet day... I believe that I will sneak out for a quick round tomorrow.

Taking Divots vs sweeping the grass
Golfer7945 replied to airlefty's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
place a tee directly behind your ball on the practice range... concentrate on hitting the tee before the ball. BTW why is taking a divot so important to you? If your reason is trajectory I think that you should learn to take a divot but please make sure that the lie angle of your irons have been adjusted properly for your swing. I would also recommend that you have properly fitted grips and that your grips are in good shape. (have you read Harvey Pennicks little red book?) -
is this working for you? I tend to leave too many shots short of the green and then put too much emphasis on my sand wedge.... My goal for tomorrow morning...(sunrise tee time) is to hit one more club from every fairway and to use 3 wood off of the tee if my first driver shot slices.... I wil post my score tomorrow on the what did you shoot today thread...

By any chance are your grips worn? Are you standing a little close to the ball? Could be because of the grips if you are. Good Luck! also were you hitting from the wet grass or mats? could be the ground conditions causing the shanks

I am a huge fan of KZG Irons. The evolution series forged irons might fit your requirements. Cavity backs for the long irons and blades for the short irons. KZG equipment is affordable and must be fitted for you by an authorized fitter. Take a look at http://www.kzgolf.com/ * Progresses from Mid-Size Cavity to Blade * Classic Appearance, Modern Performance * The Perfect Blended Set The Forged Evolution irons give each head its own unique design because a players needs vary from club-to-club. With a perimeter weighted cavity-back in the 2-iron; the emphasis gradually shifts from game-improvement to playability and control in the mid irons, ending with an exquisite muscleback blade wedge. It is the perfect progressive set with each iron 10% different from each adjoining iron. Most manufacturers only vary their blended sets by only 3 club increments.

I have one eagle.... and my experience is similar to yours. Dog Leg left par 5 I nuked a 3 wood and cut the corner. I hit a 5 Iron and pulled it left of the green pin high on the fringe. 7 Iron bump and run and bingo the ball tracked perfectly and dropped... Momentum took over I took Par, Birdie par for the next 3 holes. I love this game... Why though do I continue to rush the down swing so often?

I like the passion that Tommy 2gloves gives to the game. I like the way that the young man handled himself on both of the Big Breaks. I hope that the guy does well. BTW I met Albert Crews from Big Break on one of our local courses a few weeks ago and played 9 holes with the man. Albert hit every fairway... his short drives were a mere 300 yds and when he missed a green he never left himself more than a tap in for par... It was a wonderful experience watching him play golf.

I am older 48 weigh 145 and use a conventional grip carry the ball 250+. I live and play golf in Northern Louisiana and depending on the time of year we definately have a humidity problem (we have to use different types of balls based on our weather) any how I measure my drives by the distance of the second shot... Seems simple but many folks forget that if we are left with 110 yards on a 337 yard par 4 we only hit our driver 227 yards with roll. hmm! A guy hitting 300 yard drives all of the time should wear out wedges fairly often right?
-
BTW. I define embedded as when the only the top of the ball is visible... is that correct?
-
Darn not knowing the rules has cost me tons of strokes... I have been hacking out of our rain soaked fairways and fringes a lot and counting every stroke... It happened to me and to my playing partners several times today... imbedded balls near the fringe and in the fairway... It is really wet here in Shreveport right now... Thanks for writing about the lift clean and place rule

I am so happy to read that you approached a fellow and actually got your ball back... I had a situation where I hit a perfect drive to less than 100 yards from the green.. a fellow from the group on the green walked back into the fairway and picked up my ball from the fairway ( I yelled and waved furiously but he ignored me picked up my Pro V1 with my mark on it and walked back to the green) I approached him on the tee box at the next hole and the golfer denied picking up my ball. I called the marshall and reported the incident and when I finished the round my ball was waiting for me in the pro shop.

Errgh It really gripes me when folks replace lost balls and fail to score the penalty shot or shots.
-
My 7 iron is a club that I really like to hit; however I seem to rely on two clubs over and over again My 56 degree sand iron and the 18 degree hybrid... darn I miss so many greens short that I count my wedge shots not my putts...

This is a very interesting thread. My regular golf buddies and I are often amazed by scores that are turned in by fellows that we just played 18 holes with.... WOW! (counting a score should be simple) I am really put off by fellows that can take 4 strokes to get on to a 4 par green and score bogie, the same guys turn in score cards of 81 shots to a 72 par.....after hacking for most of the day. It might be very hard to write down a true score (today I shot horrible golf 34 over) however we count every penalty, use every drive... the USGA has established rules for a reason. We know that every round of golf is not going to be good and we get an absolute thrill when we actually lower our average round scores by a few strokes. We look forward to our weekend rounds and every one of my regular golf buddies (me included) wishes that we were able to play golf 7 days a week.... but alas we are not professionals and we are not guys that have been playing since elementary school... some of our regular players have restricted swings due to injuries and some of us are just getting older but our scores are honest... we love to shoot 80 and rue the day when we are on track to shoot 79 when we approach the tee box on number 17 ... and you guessed it hit the drive O.B. Hey this is a long post (sorry about rambling on) lie about distance if you must but post an honest score... how else can you celebrate (really celebrate a good round posted by a buddy or yourself) Concerning driving distance Now I usually get off one or two drives per round that finish between 280 and 300 yards in regulation... I hit bunches of 300 Plus drives that veer O.B. Ouch ... It seems that the hardest hit balls always hit a tree branch.. happy golfing!
-
Ditto! I really get a thrill out of using the same ball for 36 holes... It does not happen very often (about 1 weekend per month depending on choice of golf course) .... I hate asphalt cart paths urrgh... and pine trees are fairly tough on golf balls as well! Oh well! BTW I love it when my shag bag has a good amount of balls with my mark on them... what about you guy's?
-
Everardo, I am very impressed with the contents of your golf bag, great selection of equipment.

I chipped a gouge in my hard wood floors in the living room with a wedge.... ouch that one hurts every time I see it. (i did hit down on it though) smile.
