    NHL 2019-20

Ahhh, I love the night before the season starts, lots of last minute entries into hockey pools I know I have no chance of winning. And I hope the stars align right this season for my Edmonton Oilers. Although it’s just about getting to the point where I’m pretty much only cheering for McDavid and whomever is lucky enough to be his winger.
  2. It's really weird, Thursday night I said to myself that I hadn't heard Walk On Water in ages. That led to a late night binge of all of my favorite EM songs. And Today, Ric Ocasek from The Cars. If Willie Nelson dies, we riot.
  3. It's good to have you here, Dave. As said earlier, there's tons of helpful stuff on the site.
  4. Our last night of men's league yielded more than a few best shots of the week. The 17th hole is a nasty par 3 that has a pond in front and to the right is a creek. My father in law is the only one on the team to not lose his ball, and he's forty feet away from the cup and five feet off the green, downhill. As the first to putt, I read the line perfectly, kept my head down and drained the damn thing. Sandwiched between that par three were two par 5s. On the first I hit our third shot from 4o yards out pin high to the left 8 feet away. Not super close, but as someone who can't pitch worth a damn I was really impressed with that. |A few holes later I hit a nice draw ( as a lifelong slicer this year has been great for shaping some shots to the right) to about 150 out. I hit a not great shot dead at the pin, but come up short and just bounce past the fringe onto the green, this time we're 28 feet out. Another guy on the team and I totally misread the putt, saying its coming from the left. My FIL tells us he doesn't give a shit about what's in our heads, and taps the ground just outside the cup to the right two inches and tells us that's where the putt has to be. He tends the flag, I line up first, and drain another. On our second last hole, which was another par 3. A guy on our team needed a drive so that the last hole could be open for everyone to shoot. Incidentally, his name actually is Guy, and he hits the best shot out of the four of us, 25 feet away short of the hole with twenty feet of rough to get over. Putting is out of the question, so I get to shoot first, and a hit a nice, low, AW chip that goes straight at the hole, lands eight feet away and rolls into the flag and then drops in. I would to also add that I'm the most inconsistent guy on my team. If I actually hit a fairway with a tee shot we end up taking it, even if we have better options. You just can't predict how things will go with me on any given week. Tonight, aside from the first two holes I hit more GIRs than ever before in league play and hit more than half of my drives on the fairway with that steady draw. It's just a shame I can't do it more consistently. We're not a great team by any means, but we were playing the second or third ranked team in our league, and tied them at the end of the night at five under. They were a bunch of guys in their late twenties, and although they outdrove us by a wide margin, they were shocked that us 'Old Bastards'(I'm not even 50 yet!) could score just as well as them by hitting less club off the tee. It was a great, and new, feeling having people in the clubhouse talking about how great you played within earshot. All I know is that was the luckiest I've been on a Monday night on a golf course. Or any of the times I've been on a golf course.
  5. Nice to meet you, Dave!
  6. Count me in! I have lots of fun with this league every year.
  7. Congrats to @gogolfing for handily winning the season title! I had a lot of fun with this, guys. See you in September!
  8. Season 2 of Mindhunter finally drops tomorrow. This is one of my favorite original Netflix series. Season one is an easy birdie. It was just about an eagle, but lost points due to not having enough Anna Torv in it. I’m 3/4 of the way through the first season of Patriot on Amazon Prime. I love it so far.
  9. And concrete skate parks.
  10. To the younger generation unfamiliar with said cassettes, in case of emergency you can rewind them with a pencil or pen.
  11. Good luck to you as well, sir. Sadly, with this being a horrible summer for golf, the fantasy portion has been slightly more rewarding than my time on the actual course.
  12. Heart played my hometown two, maybe three years ago, and it didn't go well. They were playing newer material while the crowd wanted the hits. Needless to say, I don't think the band will be back here anytime soon.
  13. I just finished the eight episode run of The Boys on Amazon Prime. Very graphic and adult. It's not a Marvel production, that's for sure.
  14. Rory, Tiger and Francesco did not have a great opening round. Good thing I started all three of them!
  15. I think I have two more episodes to go in the new season of Stranger Things. The opening didn’t wow me, but from the second on I thought it’s been fantastic. Hopper has been hilarious. If I was fifteen years younger I’d stay up the rest of the night to finish it. Stupid work and real life responsibilities.

The Oilers treaded water this draft. Even though they really lack scoring wingers, for some strange reason they selected another left side defenseman. This currently brings the number of said lefties in the organization up to 27. Okay, I’m exaggerating, but you get the point. I’m interested to see if Ken Holland will do better than Peter Chiarelli. Totally jinxing myself, but he can’t do any worse, can he? The SJ Karlsson deal makes the Vegas one look even better, in my books. SJ will be paying through the nose, but at least they’ll get some cap relief via the LTIR when he inevitably gets injured.

I love how Bettman gets booed, every year, without fail.
  18. I’m just finishing episode three of six of Good Omens. I have no knowledge of the source material, but it seems okay so far. Imagine a touch of Forrest Gump with a dose of the Exorcist. Oh, and I believe it’s supposed to be a comedy.
  19. That’s it for that, I guess. I’m not sure what I was expecting to happen, but I was hoping for more than an hour and a half (just about) of talking.
  20. I agree with what you’re saying, but I also said the same thing about LOST. I might not be for a few more years, but there’s bound to be some show that starts off well enough to capture our collective interest.
  21. Honestly, I’m just glad after next week that it will be over. It’s been an entertaining run, but after eight seasons and a lot of tedious reading it will be nice to have something different to talk about on Mondays. I have little faith in GRRM ever finishing the books now.
  22. Wow, that was some heavy duty carnage going on tonight.
  23. Yeah, by my rough estimation, you’d benefit from having watched all three of the Captain America movies, the second and third Thor movies, the first Avengers, and Ant Man and The Wasp. Black Panther and Captain Marvel should be added to the list as well. Oh yeah, plus Guardians Of The Galaxy.
  24. Avengers: Endgame. Birdie. Hole In One if I'm scoring it as an eleven year old boy picking up comics off the rack at the local corner store. For three hours long, this didn't seem to drag a lot. It patiently builds up to a massive payoff. Some of the laughs are there, and for the first time some of the humor just wasn't funny, but man, what a great final hour it was.
  25. Well done, @coachjimsc, I'm not sure it could have been any closer.
