To answer the question posed in the title: No. I think being compulsive about your routine makes it more difficult to adapt to things outside of your control.

Help me decide: Should I get new irons or an Edel putter first!
golf-noob-bruce replied to RFKFREAK's topic in Golf Talk
Should be a poll! I vote irons. (Yes, I seriously neglect putting.) -
Paula Creamer Does it Again - Another Long Putt
golf-noob-bruce replied to iacas's topic in Tour Talk
Yeah, just guessing, but maybe they didn't have a close up shot of the ball going in when she did that, and just cut something in later. Judging by her reaction I think she did actually sink it. -

How to Hit a Driver (Hit it Further and Stop Slicing!)
golf-noob-bruce replied to mvmac's topic in Swing Thoughts
This does wonders for me. Just ensuring I line up with the club face square and my body aligned no more than 10 degrees right has a major impact. -
If you're referring to how his hands move away from his body at the takeaway, then I disagree. Good golfers just don't do that.

JB Holmes Lays up on 72nd Hole at Torrey Pines
golf-noob-bruce replied to iacas's topic in Tour Talk
If I had to ask someone else to make this decision for me and were given the choice between a) making a decision based on one relatively simple statistical rule or b) a professional making a gut call based on untold hours of practice, experience and situation specific factors which we are almost completely unaware of, I'm going to go with b every single time. The suggestion that we somehow know better than he did what decision to make is very difficult to defend in my opinion. BTW, I don't really understand the stat you quoted. Any chance you could explain it in a bit more detail? Speaking about the stats specifically though, I'd be interested to see what the actual measured statistical difference is between laying up from the distance he did, and choosing to go for it instead? -
What Are Your 2015 Golf Goals? Official Thread
golf-noob-bruce replied to iacas's topic in Golf Talk
Pretty modest goals this year: 1. Break 100 2. Take a few lessons specifically on hitting my driver. -
Latest blog and he's still going on and on about equipment. You better golfers out there please help me here. I believe good golfers are good, almost irrespective of equipment (within reason, of course). Is that your experience?

Same here. I'll watch meandmygolf vids if they have specific golf instruction stuff I'm interested in, but there's just not much personality on camera to make me come back for more. Parfield's stuff I watch mostly for entertainment value.

It's colloquially called the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon, also known as the frequency illusion.

Not surprised there's no graph like this on Dan's site. Not looking good. He had a below par round in April 2014 though and it's not on your blue graph. Or is that just an artifact of how it was graphed? EDIT: Oh, maybe the blue circles are actually the moving average...

Wow! Loved this. I really do admire people that are truly good at something. Sure, pros have a lot of natural talent, but honing those innate skills takes a lot of dedicated and concerted effort (true of golf, table tennis, whatever....).

Is consistency a mindset or a muscle memory thing?
golf-noob-bruce replied to Moppy's topic in Golf Talk
If that is the case, how does it happen that the small timing changes in an amateur's swing has such a wide range of results. Presumably better golfers have the same timing variations (otherwise we'd call them, um, more consistent) but somehow for them the results are better? I don't get it. -
His latest blog is up. Looks like he's sinking deeper and deeper into suspicions about his equipment. Dan is all over place at the moment. One paragraph is about the driver, the next about how his new wedges just don't "fit his game". This will not end well...

Discussion on 'Effective CG' - Mark Crossfield
golf-noob-bruce replied to b101's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Ah, ok. So for everywhere in the universe where golf is currently being played (presumably) the distinction is academic. -

http://thesandtrap.com/t/33326/sweet-spot-shifts-fade-vs-draw I find the references to COG confusing though. Isn't it really the center of mass? -
Is Distance Really That Important for Amateurs?
golf-noob-bruce replied to FireDragon76's topic in Golf Talk
Seems to me that all amateurs need to do is work on improving their swing and stop worrying about distance vs. accuracy. Improving swing = increased distance and accuracy, right? -
Mm, might be stretching it a bit. There are things we describe using fluffy terms (athleticism, talent, for example) which, as far as I know, we don't completely understand the scientific basis for. Surely those topics are worthwhile of further academic work? Or are you referring to just The Dan Plan (in which case I wholeheartedly agree).
