  1. I used to have shallow 4-8 inch divots with short irons. I sure wish still did. It was a time when I stuck the ball very well. Can't dot it to save my life now.
  2. Here's what I'm thinking. I'm 5'8, 55 years old. Looking at SMT or Geek component head. Shaft Voodoo or Oban Devotion. Probably in regular or stiff flex and 10.5 or even 12. I've been working on some of Lynn Blakes stuff on the left wrist ahead of the club head, but only with short irons so far. I do know that I throw it away from the top sometimes. So if I work hard, I fell I can get the SS up to 103, maybe 105. Been hitting 45.75-inch shafts, but feel I can improve on the smash factor at 44.5 maybe.
  3. What is the best paint and details on the prep?
  4. Bad breaks are not his problem right now, his brain is scrambled.
  5. 1996 Hells Point Va Beach. #12 dog leg right. Pulled my tee shot left off the heal and short. We figured it was about 225-230 to the pin. Wilson Staff laminated 3 wood. Hit the little mound behind the bunker guarding the pin and took a big hop to what we thought was over the green. The green was shallow and we looked all around the back of the green up against the marsh. It was in the hole. Wedged one in for eagle from 80 yards on #4 at St Augustine's in Northern Va.
  6. Haven't picked up a club in a few weeks. Got about 10 swings before I had to go. Ball B330-RXS I could feel that I was out towards the toe, thus the lower PTR. My shot shape is usually push draw to straight draw. Misses are straight pulls. Club Ping G-10 9* Stiff TFC129D Shaft 45.75 inches. Ball B330-RXS. I'm working with a club maker to see if I can get some distance. I know I can and will work on the smash factor to get it out there further. Looking for any suggestions you might have. Not shown here is ball height average. It was 30 yards. 7. iacas, Thanks for posting the video of Lynn Blake, basic motion, acquired motion etc. I did get the PBS, but it's been cold and wet here so I haven't been out to the range and this post isn't about the PBS as much as it is about the fundamentals shown in that video. When I'm hitting it poorly, the fault is always casting the club with a little over the top move. Made a last minute decision to get out for a round Saturday as the weather was supposed to be decent. I showed up as a walk on and it was going to be about an hour and a half before they could get me out. I took to the range with this video in mind and worked on the basic motion and acquired motion through a large bucket. When moving to the acquired motion I found that another fault was not taking the club back in one piece with my torso and that caused pulled shots. Taking it back in one piece got the club coming though from the inside at impact. Got another bucket and tried to transition to a full swing. Most of the time it broke down, but I REALLY know what to work on now. During my round I took the "feeling" I had at the range. I wasn't trying to score so much as hit the solid shot. For the most part I took an extra club or two and hit 3/4 shots with my irons throughout the round. Some shots where I got it all correct, the ball was flighted so much better than any full shot I've made in a long time, On occasion the 3/4 shot was hit longer than a full swing for a given club. While I didn't concentrate so much on feeling lag pressure, I did concentrate on a one piece take away, flat left wrist towards the target and hands ahead of the club head at impact. I was striking it so much better that the grooves were scuffing the cover of the ball, and it's been a while since I did that. I truly believe that I have found the blueprint for curing a lot that ails my swing through your posting of these videos. THANKS!
  8. A regular Joe with a 15-20 handicap..................................
  9. I know a guy who's being taught like that and he is paralyzed with the number of thoughts running through his head while trying to swing.
  10. I tried several drivers of varying lofts and flex. It was interesting to note that I would have similar spin rates and close to the same launch angle from 9* stiff shafts, regular shafts up to 10.5* stiff to regular. It wasn't until I started getting the kick point higher in the shaft that I got the spin and launch down.
  11. With older blades such as the Wilson Dyna Power that I played with for years. They added to lead the shaft at the hosel to get the swing weight consistent through the set, thus moving the center of mass progressively towards the hosel as the iron got longer.
  12. I prefer a range finder. When playing to the green, I'll use the golfers in front of me to get a good shot when I can. Like when one is chipping from the front or one walking off the back.
  13. I would only add that being confident in ones short game goes a long way in taking the pressure off when hitting that shot to the green.
  14. Towards the end of the summer and through the fall, I used the feet together drill for warming up before playing. I would start slow with quarter and half swings building to a full swing. I was able to take that to the course and hit a lot of fairways. One affect of building up to a full swing with normal stance was a nice tempo and balance. I haven't done it with the irons, but I will start. Thanks for the help.

  16. Looking for suggestions, drills for quieting down my hips/legs. A few scienaros from past rounds have shown me how much better I strike the ball when I limit their role in my swing. 1. Played a couple of rounds before a scramble several years ago. During the first round I injured my right glute. I couldn't get my legs and hips active as before. I absoululty crushed it with accuracy. 2. Often hitting from lies that restrict solid footing, the same thing will happen. Example would be, in the fairway bunker with my feet, bunker has no real lip and the ball is in the fairway, level lie. Crush it. I suspect I'm getting my hips out front with a slide and I increase my spine angle from address to impact positions. Any thoughts would be greatly appriciated. Thanks
  17. I am constainly reminded through my lay up shots that if I let go of all tension, give it a waggle and have good tempo, contact and results are far more consistance. Part of my pre-shot routine is to see the flight of the ball that I want. I pick a target that is high, a tree, cloud, whatever I can. If I focus on distance over direction, I get tense and try to step on it and loose tempo.
  18. You must live where it's warm....lol. I could go out to the range, but current temps and freezing rain are holding me back.............
  19. Yep, Nearly perfect Red X2 for $82.00 and some change. Took several weeks looking through auctions to find a great deal.
  20. Ordered 2 weeks ago and still waiting. email sent and made contact through website. EDIT : Got it today. 01-10-11 Thanks Jeff
  21. Just ordered one. I've been trying to build some lag and I hope this is the ticket.
  22. I had been away from the game for a few years, when i stopped I was hitting pretty well. When I came back I was very frustrated. In the past I would go to the range and beat my swing into submission, full swings until I got the feeling back. It hasn't worked well for me since I came back to the game. I knew I wasn't turning enough and in the attempt to impart power to the swing I was casting, over the top at times and had a big hip slide. I almost quit. To improve my turn and quite down my lower body, I started taking half swings with my feet a few inches apart. Gradually moving up to a full swing as I widened my stance, with around 10 balls from each. One day while doing this, I realized I was holding the ball flight better while working from short to full swings. If at anytime the ball is not flighted how I want it during the drill, I won't move on now until it does. At the end of the season (last 10 rounds) I stayed in the 80's with the last three being 82 with a few 3 putts and poor chips/pitches. I'm in the short stuff off the tee a lot now. Can't wait to continue the progess and this new way of practicing.

  24. A few years back I played 15 rounds or so over several weeks with a friend who was tuning up for the VA state public course open. Playing from the tips I had no expectation of hitting greens in regulation, except the par 5's. As all my second shots into par 4's were to be lay ups.......I was surprised how many greens I started hitting after a few rounds of no expectations......no pressure. When I embrace that lesson, I play much longer.
  25. I has my first ever putting instruction about a month ago. The results are amazing. He didn't change anything about my grip, stance etc. First thing he did was to prove to me that when lining up a putt with the ball in the center of the putter through my alignment off. I now address the ball, align the putt with the ball near the toe. When I'm satisfied I'm on my line, I slide the putter out to center the ball. Like others have suggested, the way you practice is huge. His drill for me is to putt 2 from 2 feet, split out about a foot from each other, then 3 from 3 feet and keep moving out. Can't move out unless you make them all. He taught me speed and touch by starting the drill with pushing the ball with the putter rather than stroking it. One key point to his teaching is seeing the target in the minds eye and stroking the putter towards that target. He also insisted I don't ground the putter when I'm ready to stroke the ball. Feel very awkward at first, but all this is adding up to more putts made, especially inside 10 feet.
