something just found it's way into my bag!
BigDaddy_Sean replied to BigDaddy_Sean's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
the tour burners were great sticks .. i had no real issue with them .. they were very solid, good trajectory, long too ... I hit my 845 7 iron about 165 .. the burners I hit the 7 iron about 180! .. a few tour players use them as well. Had a nice feel on impact as well and very forgiving on mishits .. but boy .. I just got back from the range from hitting the AP2's .. I am about the same distance as the burners, maybe 5 yards shorter (if that) .. I can work the ball again, I was hitting low, high, draw, fade .. and man did they feel sweet on impact! -
For all you Scotty Cameron people...
BigDaddy_Sean replied to YogiTKE's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
actually I just demoed both the studio select and the circa 62 last week, I picked up a circa 62 because I liked the crisp sound of that compared to the softer sound of the studio select? I did like the full chord grip better on the studio select .. I liked the appearance of the circa 62 with the curved top and high toe with the sight dot better as well. I already regripped the circa 62 with a tigershark oversized grip as I like those better. first round with it on saturday consisted of 28 putts ... my best putting round this year.. so scotty's staying in the bag :) my old newport pro platinum milspec is going to the custom shop to get refinished so now I'll have two scotty's! -
Titleist AP2's.. I bought Tour Burner's about 2 months ago when I was just getting back into the game after a year layoff .. played Tommy Armour 845's for 10 years .. and before the Armours I played Titleist Tour Model Blades in college. I had hit the AP2's and really liked them but didn't feel like I could play blades yet when just getting back into the game.. well, after about 15 rounds on the Burners I'm back to a 2.9 handicap .. I hit between 8 and 13 greens in regulation on tough courses (I only play 6700+ yard courses usually) .. and one of the only things I didn't care much about the burner's was still the lack of being able to work the ball with consistency .. So, on an impulse I called up the local golf shop to see if they had any +1 length 2 deg up AP2's now .. and they did! Traded in the tour burners for them. :) I'm stoked now .. back to player's blades... :)

calf muscles and golf .. pulled mine here .. ow.
BigDaddy_Sean replied to BigDaddy_Sean's topic in Golf Talk
well .. i do drink a lot of fluids on the golf course .. usually fill up a 20 oz bottle of water every 2 holes at least. I'll stretch before I go out .. It's just something that happenes every so often with me .. saturday was a really muggy hot day and I got pretty tired .. although I shot 72, lol and drank about 10 20oz waters. -
anybody ever had a pulled calf muscle from golf? after a round mine would generally be pretty tight .. sometimes to the point when i wake up in the night I'd have a major cramp / spasm and have to get up and walk it off. This happened saturday night after playing friday / saturday then standing most of saturday night at the bar, lol. I had gotten one about 4 in the morning and it took about 15 minutes for the pain to subside .. I could see my calf muscle in my leg completely caved in .. twitching .. trying to stretch it out. It isn't a big deal for me .. it happens often after a round of golf or any day of work outside as I am a cubicle guy during the week. But man this one still hurts ... it's still tight and limping a little bit as I walk .. this is after over 2 days now.

Steel Shafts on Drivers?
BigDaddy_Sean replied to So Long BaLL's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i would get fitted for a graphite shaft from golfsmith or something. Remember, Tiger Woods and John Daly both use graphite .. why can't you? Even the long drive competition hitters hit graphite. i used a stock shaft maybe 2 rounds in my Ping G10 .. very incosistent .. I got the UST Proforce listed in XStiff .. i have no issue with the shaft now and hit it very consistently. -
72 at salem hills golf club, salem, mi on Saturday. hadn't been putting well all year .. finally had a round with 29 putts .. 6 birdies including 3 in a row on the front, 4, 5, 6 .. 6 was as 30 footter that I snaked in.. could've easiliy been in red numbers if it wasn't for 12 and 13 .. 12 I was 100 yards after a 320 drive .. out and chunked a sand wedge .. made bogey. 13 i was 150 out ... chunked a 9 iron into the water made double. all in all i was happy with the round except those two holes. even par is always good :)

different people deal with it different ways ... you'll learn to deal with the pressure as time goes on. I try to think of the round as just another casual round of golf. I hadn't played competitive golf in 2 years and had a 3 day tournament about a month and a half ago .. I was nervous but always moving around .. don't sit still ... chat it up with your playing partners ... laugh a little bit. the nervousness may come right when you get ready to hit your ball but always waggle the club.. don't set it behind the ball before you swing ... waggle, waggle, and keep it moving, right when you get it to the address position start your swing.

i've seen hawks fly down and catch prey in a pond ... i've had geese fly across 100 yards of water at me straight on. i've hit a 250 yard 3 wood over about 240 yards of water, hit the bank and see something tumble back in the water .. only to be a muskrat there staring at me saying WTF you doin? first day of tryouts my freshman year of college we play a local public course. I get there, go to the putting green, come back .. my clubs are gone ... stolen. couldn't play so had to sit and watch the round with the coach. next day I had to use his clubs .. i'm 6'5", he's 5'7" .. i played titleist blades .. he played ping zing's .. i didn't play very well .. but still made the team. Turns out someone had asked his friend to grab his clubs .. grabbed my bag by mistake .. i got them back about a week later. after a tournament in college .. one of the team members couldn't be found .. we were in Kentucky in a tournament and all waiting in the van at dark to go home .. aparently the team member's old girlfriend lived near there and came to see him play a round.. We found her van in the parking lot .. him in the front seat .. her head bobbing up and down in his lap. Coach shines the lights on bright .. catches him. Funniest reaction i've ever seen.

if you want to get away with the mishits then the MP's really aren't for you .. I so wanted to get a set of blades when I got my new set earlier this year .. I am a very consistent ball striker hitting between 10 - 13 greens a round. For some reason the mizzy's just weren't my cup of tea, the mis hits I really felt. I tried about 10 sets of irons over 3 days before choosing the tour burners. These are great on mishits .. my misses are generally a few grooves down on the club and about a half a ball in on the heel. These irons only lost about 5 - 10 yards of distance on those mishits and still flew straight. When I played 5 times a week through college I played titleist tour model blades .. after college, I got tommy armour 845's .. played those until I got the taylors. it's a matter of just hitting as many as you can at the range, seeing what the ball flight does on your usual mishits and seeing what club performs the best .. that's what mine came down too.

ahhhh competitive golf. I miss it. I started playing golf my freshman year of high school, 1990. We didn't have graphite, steel headed drivers were just coming out then. I played persimmon woods! First year they kept the whole team, Class B school, 18 tried out. 6 varsity, 6 JV, then the rest .. I averaged 60 for 9 holes my first year. Got my varsity letter my sophomore year, averaged 48. Junior: 45 Senior: 42 (All conference). it was fun, playing and practicing every day. Then I did it again in college. 1993 - 1998 I played for Grand Valley State University .. was usually #5 or #6 man, averaging 77 - 82 for 18. By the time I left my senior year, I was a 2 handicap. I miss those days! Enjoy them while you can!

I've seen on numerous occasions on TV and when I went out to the Buick Open a few years ago vijay using a contraption on the practice greens to help aid a straight back, straight through putting stroke. I was wondering if anybody could tell me the name of this putting aid?

I just bought a Yes Diana .. I've been through a barrage of putters of the last 3 years: Scotty Cameron Newport. Odyssey 2 ball CS. Guerin Rife 2 bar blade. Rossa Monza Spider. all are darn good putters but nothing is going in the hole (my aim is always about a ball off on 10 foot putts). So I went looking for one that just seemed to setup square for me and feel good .. I the new ping answer, redwood answer, odyssey white hot, odyssey tour pro .. never compromise .. then the yes .. this thing just had a great classic look on top .. and square look. on the indoor practice green they had about 15 foot straight putts i could hit into a cup .. first 4 I made .. which meant i was lining it up correctly .. the others i wasn't making. it had a nice roll on it too. can't wait to take it out on the course tomorrow night!

Trevor Immelman did that in the 3rd round of the NEC Invitational at Firestone! LOL .. popped it up, had 250 or so left to the green on a 400 yard par four.. still made par, haha.

well, after just posting my saturday score my handicap went down to 2.9 from a 3.2! i left college in 1998 a 2, and havn't gotten back there.. I havn't played enough each year to really establish a handicap except for this year, about 15 rounds in the books so far, anything from an 87 to a 76. my highest was a 5.2 hdcp after the city championship about a month ago. shot 77 at huntmore cc in hartland, mi on saturday to do it .. and i must've missed 5 putts inside of 10 feet again .. this was from the tips, 7200 yard course, 74.8 rating, 143 slope.

after shooting a 42 on the front at a practice round a week before a tournament in 30 mph winds .. i went double, birdie, birdie, par, birdie, birdie, par par to finish the 9 at 34 (doubled the 10th), lol. this was in 30mph gusty winds which made sticking those iron shots for birdie in close that much better.

I agree with Bump-n.. it should be standard etiquette .. accidentally is one thing. If I ever do, I turn around and say sorry I didn't see the line, and try to tap out any spike marks or indentations I left behind (you can do that, but the player putting the putt can't - i believe this is the rule). But guys who just walk up and don't know the etiquette .. it irks me ... if it happens on a hole or two ok .. but every other hole the guy is walking up, marking their ball, stepping with two feet on my line.. etc.. i get annoyed.

Is ping coming out with new stuff?
BigDaddy_Sean replied to Treemagnet's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
there's been a few articles where ping tour staffers have started playing the s57's .. as well as the rapture .. that sucks, i just got a G10 .. although i do like the G10 :) -
550 yard par 5, no wind .. water right, ob left .. 300 yard drive, 250 left to green, hit over heather .. pin in front. 3 wood, 8 feet. ball landed and stopped with a 3 wood, about 6" of roll. missed the eagle. grr. same course, 325 yard par 4, 280 to carry water .. downhill, downwind, landed pin - hi. :) made birdie there. this was on huntmore cc in brighton, MI. par 5 was #14 ... par 4 was #7.

last 3 times I've played, twice was with a few guys I knew but never played golf with, third time I had gotten paired up. All of them were descent players, 10 - 20 handicaps and less. However, not a SINGLE one of them cared wether or not they walked in front of someone elses line. It bugs the s**t out of me when I'm standing over a 10 - 20 foot birdie putt as they walk up and mark their ball from a chip .. walk right over my line to do it.
-
there's another one .. a concvex instead of concave tee .. so you can never get the ball on the tee. i had gotten a bag of them as a gag gift for my birthday a few years ago .. I switched bags about a month ago and they were in there. I had almost run out of tees on one 9 and grabbed one .. put it in the ground and wondering why the hell it wouldn't work. pulled the prank on myself! haha.

Places to play in Michigan?
BigDaddy_Sean replied to putterboy's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
arcadia bluffs is the best course in michigan period ... i've played all over the state for the last 20 years .. and i was just blown away when i was there. shepherd's hollow is nice as well .. very scenic .. i didn't like the greens very much though, they were slow. there are soo many good courses in this state you just don't know where to go :)
