What custom length irons are you using?
BigDaddy_Sean replied to JYB's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
+1" and 2 degrees up. Taylor Tour Burners. -
winner shot 72 - 70 - 71. i was in about 50th place out of 140 golfers. I had only played 3 times this year .. all of them being the last 2 weeks ... 3 times last year, ending in July .. so i had a year layoff ... I wasn't expecting much ... I hit the ball awesome .. just had no feel on the greens .. it's expected. If I got around with 30 putts like I used too .. scores would've been: 75 - 78 - 78 or so. but again, I just didn't have any feel ... I put the Scotty Cameron away, went and bought a Rosa Monsa Spider.. and didn't do much better.

stack and tilt might work .. there is another method out there called the natural golf swing that might work well too .. that uses the arc of the swing to generate club head speed and I don't see a lot of rotation in that one.

problem with sweaty hands/moisture?
BigDaddy_Sean replied to King Cobra II's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
this weekend was extremely muggy in michigan.. i played a 3 round tournament. i rotated about 5 gloves .. wearing each 2 or 3 holes. -

played in the Ann Arbor Men's City amateur this weekend .. 3 days .. first day. 84. 43 - 41. 9 putts missed inside 6 feet. 2 balls OB. Counted 14 strokes i threw away. Hit 13 greens. second day. 84. 42 - 42. 6 3 putts. bogey trains. 10 greens hit in regulation. 87. 39 - 48. 6 more 3 putts on back. gave up the round on a par 5 i flubbed a chip, chipped up, had a 5 footer for par, missed it 2 feet by, missed the tap in. Gave up after that. 9 greens in regulation. eh well, ain't golf grand :) the pins were in ungodly places, greens very slopy, 11 on the stimpmeter. oh well.

copper hills is a tough track ... carls golfland gives out free rounds there for purchases over $250 .. don't think they work on the weekends .. but still, get duffers out there it's gonna take awhile to get thru.

hookin up with long lost golf teammates!
BigDaddy_Sean replied to BigDaddy_Sean's topic in Golf Talk
the wonders of the internet nowadays .... I probably would've never found him or the others .. google search .. haha. What would've been funny is he started a local men's city tournament at our home course a few years ago that I knew nothing about, only 20 - 30 players so far but I was planning on playing in it next year .... then I find out he runs it! would've been cool to sign up .. go there, and find out he's running this thing. -
Gripping down on the club - a huge difference?
BigDaddy_Sean replied to DJYoshi's topic in Golf Talk
well if you think about it, each club is 1/2" shorter than the other and about 4 degrees difference in loft. If you are gripping down about an inch, you'll lose 5 - 10 yards depending on trajectory and swing .. it's simply clubhead speed .. it will be slower. -
I saw that .. lets not jinx him! :)
-
i'm surprised his swing looks this good, I havn't seen him swing a club in gosh, 5 or 6 years at least. It looks the same as it did!

jesper parnevick was the same way back in the day ... still does but thought the pink and green and baby blue stuff was pretty funny, even with the flipped up cap.
-
he was my favorite player in the early '90's .. I thought he pretty much quit playing .. he's even thru 8!

Got in touch with a teammate of mine in high school .. gosh, that's 15 years ago.. he lives now about 20 minutes from me and his home course is the same as mine .. we've stayed in touch over the years but havn't had a chance to play. Gonna tee it up with him tonight! He's now a golf coach for the local high school, is a PGA professional, does teaching, and runs a bunch of junior golf programs around the area. A few days ago I contacted one of my college teammates.. just like old times .. gonna get me in touch with the other members of the college team .. High school I played for Chelsea High school in Michigan (1990 - '93) .. college was Grand Valley State University (out by Grand Rapids) 1993 - 1998. gonna be fun!

6 on my best round of 68 ... i've had 4 and 5 several times .. had 3 sunday .. missed 3 more birdies inside 10 feet that day. still shot 80 (very windy!).. i did have 2 bogeys that day where the teeshot went OB .. one on a par 3 where i holed a 20 foot putt, and one on a par 4 with my 5 wood to 15 feet then holed the put for bogey.
-
i have the r7 5 wood and burner tp 3 wood .. both are great to hit. I was a 2 iron hitter for a loooong time, this being my first 5 wood .. While I could hit the 2 iron . .this 5 wood I have already made 2 or 3 birdies from 225 yards with ...

it is amazing. best golf course I ever played. Dont be surprised if you normally shoot 75 and shoot 84 or 85 here .. but it is just beautiful.
-
Arcadia Bluffs, northern Michigan .. #11 .. long par 5 going towards lake Michigan. #13, par 3 at same course. This course is just beautiful

sunday.. #11 at Leslie Park in Ann Arbor, 490 yard par 5, tree lined, double dogleg, wind into and right to left cross. Bomb my drive 290, into this 20mph wind. 200 yards to green. downhill to cup, try to hit a fade 4 iron. Shank it right, goes up into the trees, kicks down by the 150 pine tree. I have 10' of air under the trees to work with, downhill still a bout 20'. Take a 5 iron chip shot and run it up to the green .. rolls up to 4 feet away .. make birdie :)
-
my number is up in the 20's to 30's .. i've lost track. last one was 2 years ago, which was about 7 rounds ago in the tournament I'm playing this weekend (shows how much I've played in the last 2 years!) I had a plug in my driver to lengthen it to 46 inches, it broke loose on the 9th hole so I hit 3 wood all day on the back. 520 yard par 5 .. 3 wood / 3 wood to 5 feet. I've holed out from the fairway multiple times on par 4's and 5's .. no hole in ones yet .. :( come very close numerous times ..

got in a zone for a little bit sunday playing a practice round for a tournament this weekend. after doubling 10 to go 6 over, bomb a drive into the wind on a par 5 290 .. 200 yards left, shanked it right into the trees, hit the tree, came down on a hill behind a 150 pine. chipped a 5 iron to 5 feet and still made my birdie. stiffed a 165 yard 8 iron to 5 feet on next hole .. made that. almost chipped in (hit another 8 iron dead nuts long on next par 4, right at the pin but shot out of the lie). par. bombed a 330 yard drive on the next hole, 40 yards left to the green, lipped out a 10 footer. bombed a 340 yard downwind left to right drive just on the front fringe. chipped up, made birdie. bombed another into the wind drive about 290, smoked a 3 iron over the green from 205 (into wind again) .. ended up behind a pine .. chipped long, 3 putted. back to reality. lol. :) it happens.

i played balatas back in the day ... man they were fun but the prov1's easily get 15 - 20 yards more with the same amount of spin.

looking for a players blade style iron
BigDaddy_Sean replied to obsessedgolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i played titleist tour model blades for years ... i went to a game improvement iron, the tommy armour 845's.. I played a few sets inbetween settling on the 845's .. I tried titleist DCI, ping ISI .. and settled on the 845's .. I played them for 10 years up until my recent purchase a few weeks ago. I tried the Mizzy's, 57's and 67's, Titleist AP1, AP2, Taylor Made R7 TP and Tour Burner, and the Callaway x20 forged .. i settled on the Taylor Made tour burner .. I like 'em .. wish they had a thinner top line but other than that they are fine clubs. You've got to play ALOT to be able to play blades consistently .. I'm talkin 3, 4, 5 times a week. When I stopped doing that after college was when I switched .. my mishits with the tour burners are still incredibly straight and long, which unfortunately happens one out of every 3 or 4 shots .. and usually the mishits will still land on the green although 20 - 30 feet short ..
