  1. yeah i saw intelligolf and downloaded it .. looks pretty good. now I've just got to find a bluetooth or compact flash gps receiver! I can find them online, but nowhere to be found in best buy, wal mart, wireless stores, whatever. i've even tried calling radio shack!
  2. I played in a group yesterday that had a SkyCaddie. I want one for my tournament this weekend. I currently have a Treo 700p smartphone and know I can get a GPS receiver for it ... is there any software out there that comes close to the standalone units like skycaddie?
  3. try 'em all out. I just went this route and actually liked my taylor tour burners the best. FYI, irons I always play stiff, not X .. my swing speed with my driver is 115 - 120. X just feels too strong on the irons.
  4. gotten a number of them through the years. last one i got was a putting green with a ball return mechanism that didn't work. :)
  5. i used to like watching DD play. He was one of the only ones that could push Tiger's buttons in the late 90's, early '00's. I was glad in '06 when he made the cut in the US Open and thought he might be back on the right track. Guess not .. I'd like to see a few good tournaments out of him. I still remember the Western Open I think it was as an amateur he was leading, then choked miserably in the final round.
  6. i was going through my "bag of old clubs" last night after reshafting my new G10. Here's what I still own: Taylor Classic Burner 7 degree with gold aldila s40. Callaway Big Bertha 8.5 graphite stiff. Some Titelist Titanium thing with a blue shaft (forget the model) Callaway Great Big Bertha 7.5 degree strong. Taylor Made R580 7.5 aldila nv65 s Taylor R7 superquad 9.5 (just got, but gonna sell) Ping G10 UST proforce 2. out of all of those, my favorite was still the great big bertha. that only had about a 350 cc head .. it looked tiny compared to my G10 and back when I bought it it was sooo big.
  7. i just got a whole new set.. but before that i had been playing the same irons for about 10 years .. i'd rotate drivers about every 3 or 4 years .. my wedges would simply wear out and i'd get new ones every 2 or 3. putters .. i have about 15 of 'em :) haha.
  8. just keep hitting them and hitting them and hitting them. Aim for targets at the range. don't just swing at nothing .. hit the targets. When I was playing college golf, our daily practice was 2 1/2 hours. only 1/2 hour of that was full swings. 1 hour of 100 yards and in every day .. hitting to pins and targets of various lengths. 1 hour of chipping and putting. You can only get better when you do that.
  9. the shaft and the club head have a major part to do with it. You've accustomed your tempo to playing the stiff shafted driver, the regular shaft is too flimsy and will take a little longer to bring back to square.
  10. there was recently a thread on this .. no, it is not legal to draw a line with a club or move an impediment into the line. You find an impediment or a marking you can use, then tee the ball up behind that, that is fine.
  11. i'd meet natalie .. :) i wanna meet that chick who won Big Break Kanapali :) She's hot, hits the ball looooong. :)
  12. i'm playing in a cool scramble tomorrow called the Outhouse Open with some friends who are good golfers. also playing in the Ann Arbor Men's City golf tournament next week, 3 day stroke play. I havn't played in it in 2 years, but it'll be fun :)
  13. i've been able to chat with a few players when attending practice rounds of local tournaments. I wouldn't get overly friendly just a hi, think your great, etc. I just think of them as real people like me. I still think the coolest thing was meeting Jack Nicklaus at the TPC of Dearborn (Senior Players Championship) in the mid 90's. He was at the range after a round, testing old vs new technology. He had one of his old persimmon drivers. Also had an old metal headed driver and a new titanium. He hit his persimmon farther. He would just turn around and say "unbelievable". But every shot he hit would be that 10 - 15 yard fade .. spot on the nose. He was in a relaxed mood and I was one of only a few watching, came over close to the ropes while resting, seeing as I noticed what he was doing, jokinly said to Jack that he should keep the persimmon in the bag :) He smiled, and said I think I should too. Shook my hand, autographed my hat .. thanked me for coming out .. actually asked if I played and where at .. it was pretty cool!
  14. it took me a looong time ... I started playing at age 13, summer before my freshman year of high school. I then decided to join the golf team that fall, they were taking everybody. I took lessons, went to summer camps, worked hard at it every day but could never find a swing I liked, I was always fiddling and fussing with it and didn't know what to expect from one day to the next. Still the same, I finished my senior year averaging 41 for 9 holes. Decided in college to try out. I made the team in college, but just barely and didn't play my freshman year. My sophomore year .. things clicked .. I was consistent, shooting mid to upper 70's most of the time, feeling good about my swing. That was now about 12 years ago .. since then my swing has at least felt good and I knew I could hit solid shots .. I've tweaked it here and there, but that sophomore year of college was when things finally "clicked" knowing that this was mainly the swing I was going to stick with.
  15. if i've got the pulls i try to stiffen up my right wrist. Mentally only think about that wrist, stiffin it up a little and don't relax it. your right hand might be a little too active in your putting and if you stiffen that wrist up it should keep things square.
  16. your right, it was registering up there, the 145 might have been my 6 iron.. i had a swing speed with my 6 iron of about 90mph.
  17. ok, so I've decided on the Ping G10 7.5 degree. It's got the stock TFC 129 stiff shaft in it. I havn't played a round yet with it but hit it on the range a few times and the shaft is too flimsy. TFC 129 is 4.1 degree of torque, 63 grams (per ping's website). Launch angle seems perfect on it .. but the torque is getting me, Only time I can get a good straight drive is with a slower "timed" swing it seems. If not, it'll fan a little right, sometimes I'll pull it left. I swing 115 - 120 MPH (just had this checked yesterday at a golfTech). and hit the ball 275 - 300. My last shaft I bought was an Aldila NV65 S .. I liked it, but I think it's time to go to low torque X flex. Something under $75 would be preferrable, I can install it.. but don't know the new companies out there anymore.
  18. Part one what is the longest true iron in your bag... (hybrids don't count) 3 iron. This is with my new set. I used to always carry 2's. The last set I had before the Tour Burners I just bought were Tommy Armour 845s .. played those for 10 years, the 2 iron i would stripe about 240 yards down the middle, absolutely loved that club. Part two anyone still carrying 7, 9, or 11 woods? never have, never will. finally put a 5 wood in the bag of the first time to replace the 2. Part three: Which irons are you replacing your hybrids with? none.
  19. exactly. one player in front of you puts a foot print in a bunker. now you have to play out of HIS footprint. that isn't playing equally. you can say the same about divots .. but players replace their divots so this doesn't happen, just like they rake the bunkers so this doesn't happen.
  20. no rakes at all so the previous player that hit in the bunker left his footprint? I don't find that fair ..
  21. i've got so many polos that i wear to work i can pick and choose. i don't buy $30+ dollar shirts, not worth it .. non logod .. but i stay in style .. wal mart has a great brand of polo called george something .. they aren't cotton or polyester, and they breathe well .. also they don't shrink .. i have to wear 3xl shirts otherwise they're tight around the arms and short .. these don't shrink ..
  22. yeah the one thing that sucks about this course is there's no driving range within 20 minutes. Usually they put the low handicap players off first thing in the morning, so I'm off at about 8:30 - 9:00. I stay at my parents house the morning before which is about 20 minutes, go to a course about a mile from their house, hit some balls, get there by 8:00, and then it'll be usually an hour since the range to actually playing. 2 tears ago I took a 7 on the first hole, a 525 yard par 5, where I hit my tee shot about 200 hards (extremely bad mishit, then struggled from there.) Problem was, I got up at like 6:45 .. got to the other course at 7:15 to hit balls, nobody was there until 7:45. I got 15 minutes in of hitting really bad shots. Ran to the course, putted for 5 minutes then teed off. I put my average up a little higher this year, it is .. I put my average at 80, then I think I put 76 or so. So hopefully my tee time will be more like 9:30 - 10:00. It was brutal 2 years ago too, 95 degrees, hot, humid, sticky .. brought 2 shirts with me cuz the first one was soaked by the 4th hole. Playing early morning golf in hot muggy weather is not very fun for me. I'd rather it be 95 and 3:00, than 80 degrees with 100% humidity at 9am.
  23. yeah, I can do my own clubmaking in there. I've reshafted and regripped some of my own clubs in there before. I want to get into bass guitar making at one point :)
  24. i've done it before just for fun .. not 1 club but 3 .. i chose 5 iron, sand wedge, putter. but boy when you do that you really get a groove going with that one club. it's good practice to just put a good swing on the ball.
  25. yeah I would .. if I really needed help .. I'm too the point where if I can get it analyzed by a pro I can work most of it out on my own .. but the guys really were nice, and knowledgeable .. would definately be worth it.
