it's halfway, and he has a 4 shot lead...he's not going to back down, so unless someone can string 2 sensationally low rounds together, Tiger will win by at least 4 shots but more like 8-10 shots. a double digit win is not impossible this weekend.

she did enough to justify her position as a Captain's pick...she's Top 5 in consistency among the American girls...the other potential Captain's picks aren't exactly "on-form", including Juli Inksters (although no one except iacas seems to have picked this up). if the criteria for a Captain's pick is "past performance / track record" or "brings leadership" heck, why wasn't the greatest European Ryder Cupper - Monty - picked to play the last Ryder Cup? As far as performance is concerned, he's well past his prime and as for leadership (he's good enough to be selected to Captain the coming Ryder Cup team) what is the non-playing Captain for? Is there no one else who can fill a playing captain role? Christie Kerr, perhaps? Exactly how many captains does a team need? Ask Zingers - ONE.

how about "missing strokes", "invisible strokes", "bermuda triangle" or "king mulligan"

vijay's had more "skill" to it. a ricochet off another ball is pure luck - his ball was clearly rolling away from the hole.

if i have the cover on, i will leave the putter cover in the golf cart so i don't forget it. otherwise, i will take the cover off before the round starts and put it in my bag.

it would be great - yes, but i'm not holding my breath on that. i think watson has had his one and only chance for another major at turnberry for very unique reasons (links, spiritual, familiarity, etc). but wasn't it great while it lasted...

skimmed through the book at borders the other day. got the gist about the swing bottoming out 4" ahead of the ball but never worked out how to get there. many thanks for the postings, especially about aiming 2" ahead of the ball and controlling the lag with your arms. i will take this to the range and see if it works. if so, i will rush out to buy the book for a detailed read and as a future reference guide.

What do I need to add to my bag?

+1 or if you need more wedges, replace the 3W and 5W with a 4W and get a LW (58* or 60*) -
can't argue with the logic there. having said that, even the best on the PGA Tour with their special handmade, customised, etc putters can have the putter going cold for days, weeks, months and years. then you have such winning stories as Jerry Kelly's $70 Cleveland Classic or Retief Goosen's Tiger Shark (what on earth is that and how much does it cost?) and the coin drops - its not the arrow, its the indian. it's a case of $600 will not cure the yips any better than $60. Q: would Tom Watson have made that 8 footer on the 72nd hole of the 2009 British Open if his putter costs $2000? I'm guessing not.

feeling bad for someone isn't such a bad thing. i feel bad for watson bcoz he barely failed to make golf (hell, sports) history. he doesn't play for money and i doubt anyone feels sorry for him for monetary reasons. i feel a little sorry for cink bcoz he'll be the "forgotten champion". but cink doesn't feel bad for himself bcoz he won so there. again, cink isn't playing the game for money at this stage. i heard he's made some $27m prior to this latest win, so it wasn't like he was struggling to make ends meet. we should really feel sorry for the guys lower down the rankings scale. these guys are really scraping to make a living out there. so the prize money is to "put food on the table, and a roof over their heads". they don't have the big money sponsorships that the top 10-20 superstars have. for all intents and purposes they "eat what they kill", and that's not a lot if you don't make the cut. what's all this have to do with africa? i'm really not sure why africa is in a golf forum but hey, here's a suggestion - perhaps cink can donate his winnings and set up an equivalent 1st Tee program in africa. perhaps, africa will be the "korea of the lpga" on the pga tour in the future?

am early 40's and started 11 years ago. wish i had picked this game up sooner. but am not complaining...i don't feel the need to "rip it" off the tee and like to think my way around a course. Mr. Watson showed us how such a strategy can even win majors for oldies. Let's face it, at the 2009 Open, over 4 very tough days, he beat the best players in the world and tied just 1 guy even after spotting him a good 20 years. given the large numbers of younger players, it looks like TW's entry onto the scene has sparked a lot of interest in the game, and that's just fabulous for the game.
-
we all know it's all about the short game... but hell, how do you boast about a 40 yard pitch to 2 feet vs a 280 yard drive to the middle of the fairway???
-
fantastic stuff... however (hopefully) the weather will be kinder to TW after what happened to him at the US Open (luck as a factor is supposed to even out as they say) and he makes #15... don't forget, TW is a better wind (as opposed to hurricane) player than some of the young guns...
-
We all want a real rival to TW and we would root for any would be rival but let's face it, there isn't one such person. Sorry, not AK, not Rory, not Danny Lee. Nobody. TW goes away for 9 mths, didn't touch a club till Jan '09, hit his first full shot in Feb '09, and by July '09 he has won 3 tournaments and has not finished outside the top-10 in any tourney he has entered. He's not even "100% back" yet. Don't forget, it takes up to 2 yrs to fully heal from his ACL surgery. There are still things his doctors tell him he can't do on his knee. Do you believe he's going to dominate big time when he's fully recovered? Heck, there'll be all manner of Legend's Slams, Tiger Slams, and the big one - Grand Slam.

+1 also, equipment is not an equalizer in tennis like it is in golf. So, in tennis you are really playing man-to-man. But golf is a little bit like Formula One, it's the driver + his equipment. If everyone played 'similar' equipment (like in Jack's time), TW would have won his 18 majors already. For example, if everyone had to play a 2-iron instead of a hybrid, probably 70-80% of the 120+man field wouldn't be competitive.

I'm eyeing Hank Haney's new book - "Essentials of the Swing: A 7-Point Plan for Building a Better Swing and Shaping Your Shots".

Why is Tiger no longer dominating like he used to?
bobsuruncle replied to senorchipotle's topic in Tour Talk
a few possible reasons for why he isn't winning by double digit no. of strokes: 1. equipment: (a) Fitting - TW has tremendous swing speed which allowed him to blast the ball past everyone else. New technology has nullified that advantage. E.g. guys with slower swing speeds use longer shafts, etc and they are no longer 50 yds behind him; (b) hybrids - guys who are shorter off the tee no longer play the hard to hit 2- or 3-irons into the greens. Now their shots are higher and land softer, giving them more of a chance than before. (c) others e.g. putters - mallets, belly, etc; and so on and so forth. You get the drift. In the old days you either had the game or not, you didn't have equipment as the great "equalizer". 2. fitness - guys are hitting the gym and practicing (almost) like Vijay. Even the pudgy guys are a little less rounded !!! 3. coaching - just about everyone has a swing coach today - both long game (Butch, Haney, etc) and short game (Pelz, Utley) 4. mental coaching - the good Dr. Bob is everywhere, everywhere.. arg, he's in my head !!! But, even with all that...to say TW isn't dominant is just downright untrue. He may no longer "be feared" (thanks to Dr. Bob) but he's still intimidating. And his numbers speak for themselves. -
there's no right answer unfortunately. i believe most coaches and golf books advocate a neutral grip. do what feels most comfortable and what works best for you. as mentioned, swing changes take commitment and time. but if you are short on time, then some shortcuts are required but do bear in mind that they may be detrimental in the overall scheme of things. also talk it over with your coach. perhaps ask him why he's switched you to a neutral grip and what other changes he's proposing as a result of that. perhaps he could do the same but with a slightly stronger grip, that feels more comfortable to you. i've gone from neutral to strong and back to neutral now.

the ogio grom is fantastic as is the nike extreme II ...

you sound like you are already leaning toward that 5W, so perhaps that's the best bet. An option would be to change the 3W to a 4W, and get the 52-53 GW also. Do get a shallow faced 4W or you may have troubles getting it off the ground.
-
Get a GW of 50-52 deg and you'll be pleasantly surprised at how often you end up using this club. The PW of today is actually a 9i of yesteryear. So the GW is really a PW....
-
What's truly amazing, is that Tiger isn't near his best yet. When he fully recovers from his knee surgery, and heck that could be another year or 18 months from here, he's going to be unstoppable and a calender Grand Slam is there for the taking. No disrespect to any Euros, but if Paddy can win 2 in a year, heck TW could do 4 easily.

Club Suggestion for Girlfriend.
bobsuruncle replied to trumpetgolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
just like runners, i always see that newbies "hitting a brick wall" and they either push ahead and become long time golfers or they quit before they have really started. you should get her a set that's as easy to hit as possible so she doesn't get turned off the game after a few bad rounds. possibly an all hybrid set for starters. as she improves, you could get her a half set (6-GW) of irons, etc. adams or nickent come to mind... -
Does anyone watch live golf broadcasts from the internet? I was surfing the net when i came across this advertisement (URL - http://watch-golf-online.com/default.asp ). It is a subscription site but you get to access golf and any other sports from your PC so long as you have broadband access. This is great if you don't already have any cable subscriptions and if you travel frequently. Has anybody come across this website or are using it? Could you vouch for the reliability and quality of the broadcasts? What about the costs? Is it reasonable or are there other better internet sites for watching golf online? Thanks
