The life of Phil, but no doubt the career of Tiger. Even though the downfall is bigger, the peaks are also higher (or at least there are more of them).

Striping through the 'white' in my quote is not really fair, since I was responding to someone who dropped the opinion that there's less attention now because the criminal was 'radical islam'. With my example I tried to show that religion, race or nationality isn't really relevant when it's 'just' a mentally sick person. With mass shootings, you might be right. I think a terror attack can come in many shapes and will come anyway, one way or the other, while someone who's mentally ill will grab the moment and take what's at hand. In Nice that turned out to be a truck, but you'll have to admit that an 'attack' like that is pretty damn rare It's not like we've had 150 rampages like this in 2016 alone. Actually I remember one more besides this one, and that was Queens Day 2009: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_attack_on_the_Dutch_Royal_Family

My guess is IRA and ETA (Spain). Also the terrorism in Germany (think about Munich for example) and Holland (Maluku). The peek in 1988 was the bombing of the Pan Am flight above Lockerbie, thanks to our friend Gaddafi.

Exactly. So while it's getting safer, people start to feel less safe. On the other hand it might be possible that right now we're on the way back to yearly high numbers like in the 70's and 80's. But still the 'feeling safe' issue is not rational, since compared to deaths by other causes, let's say in traffic, the numbers are really low. The average per year in the last 25 years is like 50 death, in whole Western Europe. Don't get me wrong, every person who dies because of terrorism is one too many and we have to try to prevent it, but we've had (and still have) much bigger problems.

More like a lone, mentally instable, crazy, f*cked up dude.... Like in Holland several years ago an 'attack' with a car on the royal family, killing several innocent bystanders including children. Nobody ever talks about it anymore. Why? Because it was an act of an angry, metally sick (white) dude. BTW, for who wants to know: far less people get killed by terrorist attacks in Europe now, ('radical islam') compared to the previous century. Interesting...

Luiten confirmed for the Olympic Games.

A bad opening round at The Open. Again disappointing at a major; looks like he can't play golf anymore when the pressure of such a big tournament is coming in. It's not only because of the good (or better) players around him, he himself starts choking on birdies and shoot bogeys or worse. Luiten his statement afterwards was that links golf is not really for him. Strange, after winning the KLM Open, the Welsh Open, last year a high finish at the Scottish Open and in contention for three days at the US Open last year (which was also links if I'm not mistaken). Anyway, hopefully a good second round today. In two weeks the PGA Championship.

I didn't say there were no records at all, just that they are rare. If one women withdraw then I was wrong, but to be fair I said 'as far as I know'. But honestly, my point doesn't change much when just 1 women withdrew, does it? You might say it kinf of proves my point that Zika is by far not the only reason not to go and there are other factors in play as well.... they just don't care that much about the Olympics, they don't get paid and it doesn't fit their schedule. And I can understand all that.
-
Maybe it's said here before, but honestly I don't think it has a lot to do with Zika. It's a handy excuses. As far as I know none of the female golfers have withdrawn so far, while in fact the virus is potentially dangerous for them (when pregnant), not so much for men. Also there are pretty much no records of people to people transfer, so it's not like they are indangering their wives and gf's. There are other things in play as well (schedule, money, lack of history, travel etc.). No way all the big names would drop out because of 'Zika' when this was a really big tournament, good for a lot of points and fame. Nevertheless they are in their full right not to compete if they don't want to. I suspect though they are not completely honest about it. My 2 cents... btw maybe a little offctopic, but a real shame they didn't make it a match-play style country-pairing tournament. That would be much more interesting to watch in my opinion, also (or most) for people who don't watch regularly golf. That would fit into the Olympics pretty good I guess, and maybe for the (big) players also more interesting.

For the second time this season, Luiten missed a cut. Had quite some bad luck playing in the afternoon group on Thursday (afternoon flights had an average of 5 shots higher then the morning groups), but to be honest he played not good. Two days extra rest for The Open though, hopefully a good performance there.
-
Luiten played in the afternoon. He said he hit an iron 2 over 300 metres, and on the next hole an iron 2 which got 160 metres. the wind was brutal..
-
Disappointing to see Fowler is not defending his title.
-
I agree

T9 in the end, the whole week inside top 10. Not bad, also looking at the big names he left behind him. However Luiten was at -2 after 5 or 6 holes into the last round and T3. Those Ryder Cup and OWGR points would have been very welcome, unfort. after that no more birdies and 3 bogeys. Nevertheless again a top 10 (eight' this season if I'm not mistaken), and Luiten is also back inside the top 10 of the race to Dubai. Next two weeks: Scottish Open and The Open. Exciting weeks.
-
Not the first time I saw Rory make a dramatic front nine, and then turn it around at the back nine.
-
T5 into the last round. This would be a very good tournament to shine, hopefully a good day tomorrow.
-
Your bet Olesen didn't even start today...
-
Wiesberger :( Can't be happy about his round, coming from -5 back to level par at the end. 12 players within 2 strokes now, including Luiten, Pieters, Molinari...
-
Wow, Wiesberger... was at -5 today after 8 holes and four shots clear, but water and a triple bogey on his ninth (18)..... harsh.
-
Projected cut is at +2. Still so far Willet, Kaymer, Yang, Westwood, McDowell and Fitzpatrick are on the wrong side. Wiesberger and Luiten are making a move.
-
Golf is in my opinion a big enough sport to be in the Olympics. It belongs there. But it should have to weight in terms like OWGR or anything like that to make it very special for the players as well. Otherwise it's just a not wanted 'break' in the middle of their season for some of the (top) players. What doesn't help also is that it doesn't really have a history at the Olympics; if Woods, Nicklaus etc. had Olympic medals it would be an honor to follow them in their footsteps... but only one way to change that starting now.
-
It's like living in Europe and watch the PGA Tour
-
And T10 after the first round. Pretty good on this difficult course, too bad of the bogey on the 18th. Early start tomorrow.

Well, it's a good thing you are not giving the information a bit one-sided, otherwise people might think you are a steering towards a certain answer. Anyway, I'm very happy for you that now that you're leaving the EU, the goverment can spent more money on other things, and maybe cut down some of the taxes, since you don't lose 'a massive sum of money each year' anymore. Oh wait....
