  1. I'm not having any "distance problems". I've taken a couple of lessons. When I take the lessons everything seems to work fine. The pro just makes a couple of small adjustments, and I practice them. In my practice sessions I hit the ball well for the most part until I get tired - I'm 70. There are mishits, but I know exactly what I did when those happen and fix it. It's - I didn't get my weight shift forward enough. I know about hitting off mats - if I hit the ball a little "fat", that's when I didn't transfer weight forward and the club face shut slightly at impact and the ball goes lower and hooks left. It's consistent when that happens. When I get through, it's a nice high draw. We diagnosed that in a lesson. But for some reason, I'm doing something differently on the golf course than I am on the practice range. Next time I play, I'm going to ask a playing partner to take a video of me so I can compare it to what I'm doing at the driving range. And I can show these videos to my instructor. Hopefully the video at the course is one of my less than good shots. I want to see the error.
  2. I should post it on his twitter. lol
  3. That drive sold me on my Sim Max. Check out that Club Speed and that Carry Distance. 😆I had them reset the machine. But it was photo worthy.
  4. I bought the V3 last because I didn't want that annual subscription with Arccos, and Arccos was always out of the belt clip. My phone didn't fit in my pockets or lack thereof. So the V3 seemed to be a great option. I think this new option in combo with the rangefinder is a great idea for people who don't already have a rangefinder. I still have my old Bushnell. My only real gripe about SS is that sometimes it records the forward tees as "rough" and prompts me to "insert a tee shot" during round editing - that is my tee shot, shut up. I guess no one ever plays those tees. I do select those tees.
  5. @Indy-Archer You're forgetting about poplar and sycamore trees which can grow 6'/yr. Plant a 20' tree, keep it watered, and it will grow. And in a few years, you have a nasty obstacle.
  6. There are four courses in my area that can't lengthen. Two are maxed with the blue tees at 5900 at one, and 5700 at the other. These are nice friendly public munis that are a lot of fun to play. No one who hits a 300 yd drive will play here. Or if they do they'll work on their iron game. The other two are maxed at 6500. All four are public courses. My home course is 7100 at the tips and can play at 7300 - blue tees are 6600. I suppose if they wanted to make this course harder, they could make the 500 yd par 5 a par 4, and change the 10th hole to a par 4 and make the course a par 70 for tournaments. But we have Chambers, Snoqualmie Ridge, and Washington National in the area, so there's really no reason to lengthen. I play with a lot of random groups. I don't see many players who can hit 300+ yds. Not to say I haven't been grouped with players who can, but it's well under 5% of the time. Not enough to warrant lengthening the course. There's been the odd pro in the group who decided to stop by for a comp round and got grouped with our threesome, and even they're hitting between 270 and 280 - and I learned a lot about course management. In the summer around here, brown is the new green. They only green are fairways, tee boxes and greens. This is the future, though with water shortages.
  7. I've heard all this before about "we're not coming for your guns." This is a "they're coming for your guns" moment. They just haven't said the quiet part out loud. This is a line in the sand, and I hope the PGA says, "NO" to this tomfoolery.
  8. And then there's been talk about the dogleg problem where elite players have cut doglegs over adjacent holes to drive the greens. On my home course that's impossible due to the 100+ foot tall pines, but.... just for places where it is possible, here's a solution. You can send me the $750K in consulting fees.
  9. I voted "zero". If it bleeds into the golf stores, is TaylorMade going to advertise their new driver "10 yds. less than last year's model!" I don't think they'll want to do that. And they're even mentioning irons? Leave my future set of Launcher XL Halos alone! If they feel there is a "distance problem" I have the solution - Range Balls. Wilson Premium Range Balls go about 10% less than a premium golf ball. I'm not talking about those Titleist or TaylorMade "practice balls." I'm saying real range balls. I can see it now, "Wilson Premium Range Balls - the Official Game Ball of the US Open." 🤣 And if this is still too much distance they make reduced flight range balls. I have 3 perfectly serviceable drivers and I don't intend to replace them anytime soon. I can order a senior flex shaft when the time comes. I just wonder if the USGA telling me to stock up on SuperSofts before they change the rules? I could buy 10 dz. today and in combo with current inventory, those would last me a few years. This is kind of like the State Legislature's "magazine ban" where they grandfather the older magazines so you rush out and buy extras of your standards before the law goes into effect. I'm 70 yrs. old. I'm retired. I don't play golf for a living. I play golf for a recreational activity that gets me out in the sunshine during the summer, and I have fun. I'm not hitting the ball longer every year. I'm suffering the age related distance loss. I don't think I will be buying anything that will hit the ball shorter. There's another issue at the other end. I say on the women's end there isn't enough distance. This whole reduction talk bleeding into the amateur game ends up with "you mean women play golf?" tone deafness. The drive for the average female golfer is only 150 yds. The average par 4 from the forward tees is 290 yds. on most courses. So 290 - 150 = 140. That requires a perfect 3W. I know from observation that the 140 yd. 3W off the deck is a pipe dream for most women. It's more like 100 yds. because lack of loft is a killer at slow swing speeds. So it's three shots onto the green, and two putts for bogey, assuming no mishits, which there are... which is why the average handicap for women is 27.5. Imagine reducing performance by 10% at this end. If anything higher COR drivers are needed here. Or courses will need to perform expensive reconfiguration their tee boxes. Not just the "men's tee boxes" although this will probably be it at most courses, they need to make the forward tees shorter. And to think they're 5600 yds. at my home course - fine if you can hit a 200 yd. drive.
  10. Also distance is only a "problem" in the MEN"S PRO GAME. But if it bleeds over into golf stores, it affects the amateur game. The game is growing. Time to smash it down. Bifurcate the equipment rules and don't have it affect the amateur game. Because if it drifts into the golf stores, I wonder how much "illegal" equipment will be on the golf course over the coming years? It will be a **** show. Way to go.
  11. I've been playing the Cobra Speedzone 4H & 5H. (2020 model). I like them. Very easy to hit. The newer models have gotten great reviews. The loft of a 3H gets a little iffy for me due to my swing speed - I do better with a 5W. However, at your HC I would assume you make better contact with the ball than I do. Callaway still makes the Epic Super Hybrid and they're marked down. Also have you thought about the 18 degree Cleveland Hy-Wood and a 21-22 degree hybrid? Ping G425 although they're $300 now. They're very good.
  12. 92. No complaints. First time I've broken 100 this season. We've been playing mud ball all year so far.
  13. My suggestion is to get a pair that has the focal distance for about 6 feet. It's in between computer distance and TV. It's not ideal for distance, but you'll at least be able to see the ball. Your optometrist might have to be talked into this.
  14. I'll hit driver. The creek isn't in play for me off the tee. Then depending upon which side of the fairway I'm on will choose the next shot. If I'm on the right side, I'll hit a couple of 9 irons onto the green. If I'm left, I'll go with a 4H + 50.
  15. But it's supposed to be 70 F on Thursday. Before dropping back to 54 on Friday. I'm really tired of the wet conditions.
  16. I'm no longer against bifurcation if only so I no longer have to listen to Jack complain about people hitting the ball too far, because amateurs who hit the ball 220 yds are ruining the game. And as far as going to elite amateur to pro? Think about it this way. A Classical pianist, or any pianist for that matter, unless they're very very rich, has to perform on the piano in the concert hall. They don't get to bring their own piano on which they've spent thousands of hours practicing. Not all pianos are the same, They don't feel the same. Yet they're expected to perform on them. This is similar to not being allowed to play with your own golf clubs but being handed a set at the event. So bifurcate and get it over with.
  17. I know way too many people who use the "three dots above the brand" of the ball mark.
  18. I picked up a TM Sim Max for $400 brand new. 10.5 deg. with the stock 60g Ventus Blue. I think the prices on the new drivers are too high. I don't hit them $150 - $200 better. They don't go $150 - $200 further or straighter. One or two yds. is statistically insignificant. I know this is in the same price range as Cleveland but I liked the sound and feel of this one.
  19. Hitting a good tee shot and due to the cold, it doesn't quite make it to where you need and lands in a tough lie - steep side hill. You're standing with the ball at your waist. You execute the sidehill lie like a baus. Your ball ends up in the middle of the fairway. You need a 40 yd pitch onto the green. You pull your 54 and nip just slightly behind the ball but the ground is so soft that instead of the bounce gliding under the ball, the club digs in and takes a foot long divot and the ball goes about 10 yds. Next shot leaves a 60 foot bogey putt. You make DB. Next hole you hit a toey dipper of a tee shot, hit a tree with your 2nd shot. Duff your next two shots. Still 240 yds out. I play a high fade around a tree. It looks nice... but there a single branch sticking out at the apex of the shot that the ball catches the end of and drops straight down.
  20. We're in handicap posting. The courses I play post a sign "Summer Rules Are In Effect" on a certain day, and they remove it on a certain day at the end of September. Outside of those days it's preferred lies and only on the fairway. The courses are soggy and the grasses are still dormant due to cold temperatures.
  21. Uplifting topic.... I'm hitting my driver, wedges, and putting well. We won't talk about my irons. I have a lesson scheduled to sort out that mess.
  22. Your location says University Place, WA. If you are playing in the State of Washington, and the ball was in the fairway, mark your ball. Lift your ball out of the spot. Clean your ball. Replace it in an area within a 1' radius of your mark no nearer the hole. It's March here in Washington. Preferred lies are in effect.
  23. I can have rounds where it looks like I can putt the lights out and I still don't break 90. If you have 28 strokes on the green and 61 strokes on the rest of the course, you shot 89 - yes, I did this. If you have 38 strokes on the green and 38 strokes on the rest of the course you shot 76. It doesn't boil down to the putter. Now if you're 5 putting greens you might want to look at why.
  24. So combine golf balls at 48 F, me at 48 F who was not happy about especially at my age, soft turf of which I'm not a fan, golf shoes which were not especially comfortable and the scores go up about 10 strokes. Fortunately the weather will be getting warmer as the days get longer. And... as of Mar 12, I can go back to the gym.
