  1. It sounds like an upscale club. I play public courses so take this with a grain of salt but I would try to remember the names of the members. You can greet them by their last names until you are told differently by them. Do your best to remember how they like things done. Also like any job even if you are having a bad day try to look like you wouldn't want to be anywhere else and of course show up on time and do your best to not show up people that have worked there longer, especially your immediate boss.
  2. No, Noe Valley. It is gorgeous out. I went to high school right next to Harding and some days the weather would be completely different from my house to my high school. I guess you are closer to the courses in the Sunset but Protrero Hill / Mission has the best weather in the city. I must say that between Harding the two Olympic courses and Cal club this has to be the best collection of quality courses in one area of a small city.
  3. Welcome, the weather is horrible today isn't it.
  4. I completely agree it does nothing to speed up play if the course is backed up. If you are the slow group what does making you wait accomplish anyway. If you are doing it the let the group behind you play through by all means go for it. I think it also causes much more of a delay than just the time it takes for the players on the tee to hit their shots. 1: It takes time for everyone to mark their balls and move off the green. 2: It takes time to convey to the the group on the tee that you are waiving them up. 3: The group on the tee might not be ready to hit (I know on a par 3 that I don't have the club in my hand ready to hit until the group on the green is close to finished). 4: If I am the first to putt I usually have lined up and replaced my ball and gone though my thought process and I am ready to putt shortly after the last player in my group gets on the green. If I wave someone up I have to go though the process all over again. 5: I don't like to have a ball or a ball mark close to my line when I putt, so if anyone that I waved up hits the green someone in my group has to fix a mark or mark someone's ball before playing. I know these are short delays but they add up. I also find it dangerous for no purpose. I know that I sometimes can't see the ball and I have fine eyesight, sometimes you lose the ball if it is hit from 170 yards away, especially if you have a white sky or the sun is behind you. What do you do if you hear fore? Cover your head so if you do get hit hopefully you only have a painful bruise. Another thing I find annoying about being waved up is sometimes it forces me to change my shot. Sometimes people don't move far enough away to be safe. An example would be when the pin is on the left with trouble around, some guy stands 1 pace off the right edge. Where my usual shot would be center green or even right-center because if I miss I should end up with bogey at worst. Instead I feel as if I have to go for the pin. O.K. this has turned into a rant. In case you can't tell I am not a fan of waving up.
  5. Hi I have a question for all you Edel owners and especially anyone that does fittings for Edel. If after you get fit, has anyone gone back, say 6 months later for another fitting to see if after getting used to the putter your alignment or aiming is still the same. I know it will be different for everyone but I wanted to know if you have a tendency to leave the face open or closed on putts that over time after missing most of your puts one one side of the hole you would consciously or unconsciously make an adjustment and adjust your aim to compensate.
  6. The chart is made up. I know I can go out and find several golfer's with 110 SS at most courses, but the chances of me finding a +4 at a course is probably 1/100 if that. If the chart went from 5-18 I might take some time to think about it but going from +5-18 is ridiculous.
  7. I have been to 2 Tournaments the Am Ex WGC in 2005 at Harding Park in San Francisco and the Presidents Cup also at Harding in 2009. For me I much prefer stoke play as a spectator at the course but on TV I prefer the team events. The crowds were so much more concentrated during the Presidents Cup due to their being so many less golfers on the course. With stroke play I could follow a lesser known Golfer and watch him play a couple holes and have a good vantage point for all of his shots. With Harding being the course I play most often I liked the fact that I could see how someone with exceptional skill played the same hole's I play regularly. Whereas in the President's Cup to get a good spot you had to go set up before the golfers arrived and you could attempt to run ahead and hope you could find a place to see something. So I found the best way to watch the President's Cup was to set up and watch several groups play from that spot. For me this got repetitive, kind of like playing the same hole 18 times. I guess I don't have any specific recommendations but I would say even though if you are in the right place at the right time team events can be magical, stroke play on average is a much more enjoyable experience. Also I would like to add that a practice round is highly recommended by me. My favorite moment in the President's Cup was standing a few feet away from Michel Jordan and Tiger Woods as they were joking around during a practice round. You can get much closer to anyone you want and you get to see them sometimes try for the hero shot that they wouldn't attempt in a tournament. One last piece of advice I have is if it could be cold don't dress like you would if you were golfing. I made that mistake at the President's Cup and I froze. I had played Harding in similar weather many times but you need to dress warmer if you are just watching and not playing
  8. I know I have looked on e-bay and know the cost of the SW and LW but I figured it was worth a shot.
  9. I just called ping from the number posted above about my BeCu eye 2's and was told I could reorder up to two clubs as long as they had them in stock. Unfortunately I have a 2-PW and they were out of stock of the SW and LW the two clubs I would have possibly ordered. I was tempted to get the 1 iron but they cost $199 for each club. I was happy to here that my 4 digit serial number was correct for the lie and that the original order only included the clubs I have. I was told they were made in March of 1986

The USGA groove rule does not allow us to build full sets of any model which would have non conforming grooves. The limit will be two clubs, so unfortunately you cannot build a full set two clubs at a time. Bottom line is that a new set of any of our classic models can no longer be custom ordered. The oldest model in which a full set can be ordered are the G10 XGs. Please call 1-800-474-6434 if you have any further questions. Does this mean they will allow you to get the eye 2 in copper?
  11. My divots usually just end up exploding. Even if i find the largest piece and put it back it looks ridiculous to put back a 2x2 piece in a hole that is 6x3. Most better courses have sand on the carts but I usually walk. What can I do? I don't know why a decent course can't say when you check in "are you walking or riding walking? Walking O.K. here is your bottle of sand please fill any divots with this mixture." It wouldn't have to be the big cart sized ones it could just be an old Gatorade bottle. It would be a great reminder of how to repair a divot. I will admit that because I am not used to the procedure that sometimes when I take a cart that has sand on the back, that I forget and just look around and replace the biggest piece if I can find it. I think most golfer's would not just take the bottle and throw it in the nearest trash can, they would put it in their bag and even if they forget and don't fix one divot with it when they got home they would think "I carried this bottle of sand around all day I should at least try to lighten my load by using some of it.
  12. Yeah, but how far away is that area that you can see the ball land.
  13. I agree I call it "taking your medicine" it might not taste good but you will be beater off in the long run. For me the difference between a 25' putt and a 10' putt is only about .30 of a stroke. Leaving the ball in heavy rough costs me a full stroke. I see people of my skill leavel trying to hit a fancy flop shot that lands on the fringe and trickles down to the cup and 30% of the time they don't clear the rough another 20% of the time they scull it over the green, another 35% of the time the ball doesn't end up at a make able distance that only leaves, 15% where everything works out and they have a good chance to get up and down. So in my opinion if you are a bogey golfer and you land in thick rough around the green you should just concentrate on getting in the hole in 3 shots not trying to make the great up and down.
  14. I didn't know you could do this. So if a player hits a ball of the tee 10 feet into a bush or some other place that the ball would be difficult to play from he can than procede to the drop area? Would the same be true if he hit the ball O.B.? If not than it seems that the player would have played from the wrong spot.
  15. I have played Tildon, Sumittpointe, Franklin Canyon and Monarch Bay those are the course that are close to me. My schedule varies so if you have another member that wants to play a certain day you could let me know.
  16. I don't understand how you can say it was a "mess" you didn't even see the high school golfers. For all you know they might have been playing at a reasonable pace. They might have only been planning on playing the front 9 in that case you might have been slowed up a little when you caught them on hole 5 or 6 but by 9 you would have had the back 9 wide open to you. How dare that 4 some think they had the exclusive right to not have some random 2 some jump in front of them because they wanted to. You sound like the type of guy that wouldn't mind at all if a group jumped in front of you and inconvenienced you because they wanted to. The fact that they saw you means that the back 9 was not wide open. Before you say "it was wide open in front of us they wouldn't have seen us after the 10th hole." They must have seen the group in front of them sometime during the round otherwise they wouldn't know that you were not the group that was supposed to be in front of them. It amazes me how many times a twosome will ask to play through when the course is full and there is nowhere to go. If a foursome clears the green and gets to the next tee box and the 2 some can hit their approach shots chip and putt out and get to the tee before the 4 some can hit drives. Chances are the 4 some had to wait for the group in front of them, or they should be drug out in the street and shot for incompetence. Don't ask to play through unless you can see that their is no one in front of them. I know when I play with 3 friends when the the course is backed up we might linger on the tee together, rather than hit our tee shots the instant the group in front is out of range and than stand over our second shots with our hands on our hips waiting for the green to clear.
  17. I have a few question for you. Are their other things that you would rather do with your free time and extra money? Do you like to practice? If you have bad round is it still enjoyable for you? Do you have golfing friends that you would miss? I think if you can answer those questions you will find your answer. Also your statement of " I'm really wondering if I should continue to spend the time, money and effort in pursuit of perfection in golf" is an unreasonable goal as I am sure you know their is no such thing as perfection in golf. I think at your age and the fact that you have put in the time in practice and lessons that you have most likely reached your peak. You probably won't get any better and you will eventually start to regress. Is that acceptable to you. One of the great things about golf is you can continue to play and play well late into life but if playing at a high leval all the time is what is most important to you you will be disappointed. I don't have any experience with these types of decisions but my mother has. She played twice a week for 20 years and around the age of 55 her body began to break down. She had to take ibuprofen to get through the round and was sore for days after. Her scores also began to get worse and she could not adjust her mindset to think that a 95 was a good score for her instead of an 89 so she would almost always leave the course disappointed and sometimes angry. She decided to take a break from golf and she hasn't played for over 4 years and to quote my father "She is a much nicer person now." So for her stopping golf was the right decision for her, but I still hold out hope that sometime in the future she will come out and play 9 again with me and find golf enjoyable again without worrying about the score.
  18. If WC1 has a four game lead they should be able to set up their rotation so that their best pitcher pitches the single playoff game. WC2 most likely is fighting for their spot so they won't have that luxury. So that favors WC1. I would think the team that has the best record would get home field advantage in the game so that is another advantage.
  19. I only have one. I also only have only one driver but for some reason I have 4 iron sets and 5 wedges. I also have 2 hybrids despite not being able to hit any of them well and I keep none in the bag unless it is one of the 2 times a year I go to the range. I know this doesn't make much sense considering that I hit my putter and driver about 42 times per round and all the others about 51. So I have 2 clubs I will hit 42 times a round and 41 clubs that I will hit 51 times a round. Edit: I also now carry a 3w and have another 5w that I don't use so now it is 43 clubs.
  20. I just used 150 yards offline because that's what the poster said that I was responding too. I agree that 150 offline is pretty much impossible unless you have serious problems with alignment.
  21. I am definitely #2 even though I don't think I have ever commented on my drives except on this thread. I don't think you can get close to your maximum distance if your ball is 150 yards off line. For me everything has to be close to perfect for me to get a ball close to 300 yards out.
  22. I know and the pro's averages sometimes include holes where they hit an iron off the tee.
  23. I think some of the problem is that people think when you say "I can hit a drive 300 yards" they change it into "my average drive is 300 yards". I can and have hit a drive 300 yards but my average is about 220 yards. If I top one or hit a tree and the ball comes back at me I might only get 100 yards out of it. It takes a lot of 280 yard drives to make up for the one that only goes 100 yards. I.E. 260 285 100 300 210 185 is only a 223 yard average
  24. I think Sandmans point is that you don't know it there. With O.B. you know it is there from a yardage book or from previous experience and O.B. never moves. With high grass the location could change due to time of year or maintenance issues. I know the rules of golf say that you should not mark something as a lateral hazard that never holds water but I think this should be changed. I know you think that the rules of golf should never be up for discussion but it would not affect high level play or force a course to do anything that they felt would compromise the design of the course. It would have the added benefit of speeding up play and allow course's to save on maintenance during the off season without radical changing the difficulty of the course.
  25. If you don't mind when you post the lofts could you also post your distances for your clubs, wedges included? Thanks
