OK I found two articles on weak/strong grips: http://www.golfwrx.com/177590/clark-make-your-grip-match-your-swing/ http://www.golfdigest.com/golf-instruction/2012-07/tom-watson-grip I just made that change to a weak grip as I thought I was seeing too many of my knuckles but I guess its a weak grip. One thing I know for sure is that my hook is there regardless.

OK, so by weak grip (what I got from the link provided) was that my right hand is turned too much out to the right? (i am a lefty) Also went out today and tried to move the club out a bit so I would lean over more and keep my hands out. I hooked every shot bad. I assume this is from my grip. I feel my wrist turn/twist causing me to hook it. I do not do this with my higher (7-pw) irons, just the lower clubs and really bad with the driver.

I've been Playing Golf for: 1 month My current handicap index or average score is: 104 is my best thus far (yes I am bad) My typical ball flight is: Driver is all over the place - hook, slice, and straight. Average distance is 212yards. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: trying to improve driver. irons are next but they are ok for now. Videos:

Thanks for the tips. To answer some of the questions... I will get a video up today. I am definitely doing everything wrong so any help in the swing dept would be helpful. I think I am going to try evolvr even if for just 2-3 months. I cannot afford it for a year but I could swing a few months so I am glad they have that option. I have unlimited range balls with my club membership so I try to hit the range before or after I play. So I generally try to do both. But if I have the choice I usually just play unless its supposed to rain/storm. The range is regular grass only, no mats. When I do play I usually just walk 9 holes. With kids and such 18 several times a week would cause some wife aggro:) I am using swing by swing phone app to track my scores, shots, #of puts, sand, penalties.

Let me know if you all have any advice. I am 36 and haven't golfed in 18 years. I golfed tons as a kid, played and won many tournaments, then quit at age 18. Now I am just getting back into it. Thus far in the last two months I have been on the course about 12 times. I bought a walking pass at my local country club for the year so I can golf as much as I want to for now. But I suck. I do not remember anything. When I started two months ago I was shooting around 125. Just this past weekend I had that down to 104. Here is my plan to get better. My goal is to just be a good golfer and have fun. I would love to get good enough that I do not look like an idiot when I play with a few of my friends who can shoot below 80. So here is my plan: 1. Post my video here for you all to slam my form and tell me what I should be doing haha. I slice, I hook, I do not hit the fairway:) 2. Possibly sign up for evolvr. Can I do it for just a month or two for the $40 a month???? 3. Ordered ben hogans 5 steps book and LSW book. They should come this week. 4. Going to the range or course 3-5 times per week. Ideally Golf 2-3 times and range 2-3 times. Or sometimes I do both on the same day. I mostly work my driver and long range shots. My short game 7-9 iron is actually good. 5. Search the heck out of this site. I have found tons of good info on lowering your score. At this point I just need beginner tips. If anyone has any tips feel free to share. Otherwise I will post my scores/updates on this thread as I continue my journey.

Depends where. You are pretty safe in Georgia, SC, and NC. Sure you might have to evacuate once every few years but you have plenty of warning. FL is hit a lot more but even that isnt a big deal because you have time to leave. I am 1.5 miles from the beach in wilmington nc and 40 ft above sea level. No stilts except for houses literally on the beach.

You are definitely not too late... 1. I was one of those kids who started golf at like age 6 or 7. By the time I was 13/14 yrs old I had probably been in 100+ tournaments and won a considerable amount of them for my age bracket - and some were really big tournaments. Then guess what? I got into junior high and started caring more about girls and other sports and pretty much quit golf by the time I was 16. I had outgrown my clubs and didnt want to spend my money on new ones and my parents wouldnt help me. So...just because some kids are winning tourneys already doesnt mean they are going to stick with golf. I played my last round when I was 18 and didnt pick up a club again until I was 36 yrs old. 2. You are growing. So are the kids winning tourneys. You do not know who is going to grow into an athletically gifted adult at age 14. Some of those kids winning tournaments might turn out to be terrible athletes at age 17 and vice versa. You might turn out to be amazing at golf by the time you are 18. Who knows. There are some pro golfers that were just OK when they started college and then were pro by the time they were 21 yrs old. People can change a lot at that age. You just never know. The most gifted kids might not be gifted at 17 and the normal kid might turn out to be an awesome athlete at 17. 3. Pursue your dreams and pursue lots of them. Focus on golf BUT also make sure you focus on your studies an plan for college and good job too. And anyway you want to get into a good college golfing program so studies will help with that.

I just bought a ton of orange balls to see them better. I suck though so I need to see all of the 'off the fairway' shots I hit. If people think I am not good because I have high visibility balls they are correct haha. I was using yellow but am finding that in the sun I cannot find them. As I said earlier though, If I was really good I would use blue, pink, black, etc just for kicks.

I live in Wilmington NC which is on the coast of NC (Wrightsville beach, topsail beach, Carolina beach, etc). I would look for the weather you want. Wilmington/southport are the warmest areas in NC and we do have some winter although nothing like yours (I lived in Tysons corner for a few years). November/December are usually nice and would be comparable to your Sept. Our jan and feb average temps in the 50s. Its not cold enough for a winter jacket ever but you do need long sleeves/pants in the winter. I have seen days in the 80s in january and days in the 30s. You can play golf all year round no problem. If you are looking for warmer weather though in the winters I would go to Charleston, savannah, or FL. I would imagine inland NC is much colder.
-
Good deal. Sounds like you did well. Have fun.
-
Its 83 according to my outdoor thermometer right now. Golfing this afternoon. You can golf where I live all year round but in Jan/Feb a nice day is only in the 50s so you have to pick and choose.

Does any do this? Have thoughts on it? Here is a link: http://biokineticgolfswing.blogspot.com/2010/04/diagonal-stance.html I have found that I naturally do this and it prevents me from hooking the ball like I normally do. I actually found out about it because I was at the range the other day and stopped hooking and was hitting long straight shots with every club and couldnt figure out what I was doing differently until I looked at my feet. I took the stance on the course and got my PR. Then I searched on the web to see if it was bad or what and I found this site and tons of other forums discussing it. I do it with every club except my 9-PW. I couldn't hit my hybrid at all and now I get perfect shots (might slice a little). Is this a bad habit I am getting into or should I just do what feels most natural? I assume this feels natural because of so many years of baseball where I hit like this.

I just went through this about 2 months ago. I did tons and tons of research and here is my advice. 1. Go to a golf store or take a lesson and see what size you are. Also ask them about clubs good for beginners. More than likely you are regular but if you are really tall or really short you might not be. 2. Figure out a brand or two that you like. Then find out which clubs that brand makes for beginners like yourself. I chose taylormade and ping but there are tons of good brands out there - cleveland, nike, titleist, calloway, etc. Each of these companies makes beginner clubs. 3. Start pricing those brands new online and used on ebay. Figure out what a good price to pay for them. What I did? I bought a new set of taylormade burner 2.0 irons at dicks for $299. Then I bought my putter, hybrid, driver, and 5w off ebay- all were ping G15. Total was around $450 for everything. I could have gotten those same irons used for $150-200 off ebay and saved $100 but I wanted new irons. You can see my clubs in my signature. So I spent $450 total for my set and bag. If you only want to spend $200 just get a driver, 3 hybrid, 7 iron, 9 iron, PW, and putter and then add from there. You can easily find those clubs on ebay for $25 a piece - name brand -2-3 seasons used. Why didnt I just buy a $200 beginner set? I know myself and knew that I would have wanted to upgrade after playing them 1 time. Now Ive been out 10 times with my clubs and do not think I will need an upgrade for several seasons. And one more thing the guy that gave me lessons told me - get a higher loft on your driver. Standard is 9 or 10.5. He said get higher and then once Im better determine if I need lower. I found a 12 degree loft driver and so far so good.

I use yellow because 80% of my drives either slice or hook so I would never find the white ones. If I was a decent golfer I would probably just use white. If I was a scratch golfer I would probably use pink and other crazy colors just to mess with people.

golf apps killing battery
logo replied to tntviper1's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I tried just tracking my drives and score last week and used about 10-15% total on 9 holes. So it depends on use. I would imagine if I set it to use low battery that would be much less for everything. The medium low setting seems good for me though. I tried the medium high setting and it used like 70% of my battery in 9 holes. -

Im using swing by swing and have it set on medium low. I track most of my shots and score every hole. I use about 20-35% battery after 9 holes. -
Has anyone tried these for golfers/tennis elbow? Research shows they work and they are only $15 on amazon. I have been using one for a year or so due to elbow problems from lifting weights and sleeping with my arms bent. Its awesome and has really helped me quite a bit. Anyway, if you havent tried it, its worth the money to give it a go. Also, pay attention to things you are doing with your arms bent for a long time - that contributes a lot (just like me sleeping with them bent).

Ive got a winn dri tac on my driver and stock grips on my irons/putter. Not sure which clubs are causing the problem either.

Thanks. Tape may be my best option when I start getting a blister to play out the rest of the holes without needing my 2nd glove. I do have the 2nd glove though just in case.
-
Is there anything you guys do, besides wearing gloves, to avoid blisters? I have been out 3 times this month and each time I get a blister on my non glove hand by about hole 6 and then I need to wear 2 gloves. The blisters are in different places too. My index finger, pinky finger, etc. I personally do not like any gloves as I like the feel of the grip in my hand. Any recs? Will my hands just toughen up?

I was in a tournament in the early 90s (I was probably 10 or 11 yrs old). One of the kids that played in my state circuit at the time, who I really didnt care for, got a hole in 1 on a par 3 at my local course. Since it was a tournament he got his name on a plaque with everyone else who got hole in 1s during tournaments at the club. I remember it because I hated seeing his name there every time I went golfing haha.

Had a 313 yard drive today with it...of course it was dry, I had the wind on my side, it somewhat sloped down, and it probably bounced a bit but thats my farthest drive ever and I am super stoked. Thank goodness for GPS to actually measure it:) Now if I can do it again I would be amazed.
