What iron shaft would suit me?
Grinde6 replied to SimonAgren's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Welcome! The best thing to do would be to get fitted into a shaft. KBS makes great shafts, PX is a great shaft, Dynamic Gold also has some great shafts. Not knowing your swing speed, but able to guestimate based on the numbers you provided, I am thinking you should be in an X flex shaft. -
That's a tough situation when you only have you as a witness to a breach of the rules, and obviously the parents aren't going to go against their kid (maybe they would, but most likely not). If you had one more person in the group, then it would have been a different story, but the director of the tourney still should have taken your concerns and done something about them. Without another witness, there is really nothing else you could have done besides demanding to the director that the person be dealt with, especially since they placed.

Ok, I see what you mean. So on the 3 days a week you are to do the swing speed training for the Drive 400 do you instead do the SuperSpeed training? Or do you do the complete Drive 400 swing speed training and then also do the SuperSpeed training?
-
SuperSpeed sticks aren't part of the Drive 400 program... Are you doing the Drive 400 program or the SuperSpeed program? I am doing the Drive 400 program, and then I plan to start doing the SuperSpeed training as well to see what happens when I pair them together.

Awesome! I have been doing the workouts (in week 3 currently) as I felt like I wasn't making any gains, even though I go to the gym 5 days a week. With this program, it gives me a plan, and I have already seen gains. I think I am going to pair this with the SuperSpeed program and see what happens. Its worth a shot anyways.

If I use the link at the bottom of the page for the SuperSpeed will that populate your code @iacas or do I have to enter that somewhere else?
-
ahhh...you're correct, I wasn't reading it the right way. Changed the vote to "yes", now it makes sense.
-
I voted "no" simply because if the ball is rolling across the green, there is much more that could go wrong. Spike mark, ball mark, slope, grain of sand, etc can all throw the ball off course. With a one or two hopper there is much less influence and much of it depends on the spin.

Today where I am it is 83*, but a 66% humidity. The weather app says it "feels like 88*"...NOT! It is one of those days where you go to the range to hit a bucket of balls, and 10 shots in you are already having to wipe your hands and forehead of sweat...that's not fun to me. I have never played in a dry heat, so I don't know what I could withstand there, but I've played in 95* with a lower humidity just fine. Its definitely the humidity that will get to a person.

Anyone use any of the Pitch Fix devices? I picked up the Fusion 2.5 pin the other day, but have yet to use it. I have a few of their 2 prong tools, but this one was intriguing to me. Seems like it would lessen the time to fix quite a few ball marks (not that it takes that much time to begin with).

You're Down to 4 Clubs in Your Bag...What Are They???
Grinde6 replied to N8theGr8_1988's topic in Golf Talk
This is interesting...might have to give it a go in a 2 ball format next time I have enough time to do so during a round and the course isn't busy. I would go Dr, 2H, 7i, GW. Use the GW or 2H for putting. -
Ya it’s pretty hilarious. Besides one buddy I play with that is stupid long with his driver, I am usually one of the longest hitters in my group...but I am always hitting one or even two more irons than the rest of them because I like 3/4 swings and flighting the ball, to me it’s fun. They can’t wrap their heads around it..haha

I like the guys that try to compare what clubs you are hitting on par 3s or approach shots that are similar distance. We have a 170 yard par 3 completely over water with 2 bunkers behind the hole. I step up with a 6 iron (5 iron if its into the wind) and play it to the middle of the green, and they ask what club that was. They look at me kinda crazy when I say 6 iron (or 5). "How cant you get a 7 iron there" is the usual response. Well...I can, but why not hit a 3/4 flighted 6 iron to be sure it gets there instead? Love the "what's your distance with (insert club here) guys".

I have looked into that as well. I think I might try both. One for the weight -lifting with a purpose which "could" help with swing speed, but then the SuperSpeed for the benefits of swing speed as well. I have seen somewhere that you have a code for ordering these. Mind posting it here, as I believe I will be ordering the bundle with the radar this week. Thanks @iacas!!

I'm not sure how I stumbled across it, but it has me a bit intrigued. Rob Harrand, a former professional baseball player has come up with a program to help increase clubhead speed, distance and overall flexibility. It does this through use of a foam roller, stretches, swinging a club and a weight lifting program. It is very cheap and has me looking into it more. I just wanted to see if anyone else here has tried it. I tried doing a search on Drive 400 and also by Rob's name and nothing came up. I know a person can do this on their own, but it is much easier to follow when there is a plan laid out in front of them (for me anyways), and it seems pretty easy to follow. Any thoughts on this, has anyone done it, know anyone who has done it? Thanks for the input!

From reading this, the amount of forward progress you were trying to make would probably save you a club to half a club at most if I am reading it correctly. To me, that's not enough to make me want to risk not catching the ball correctly and it going OOB and I have to play the same shot again, only this time without trying to curve it. I usually take a 7 iron, put it back in my stance a bit and make a really exaggerated slice swing at it...since I don't want it to go too far I don't swing too hard, but enough to get it out and put a little curve on it. Again, I don't know the exact amount of yards the slice would have saved you, but if its not at least 2 clubs I would have just punched straight out and taken my medicine.

With many guys in that +6 range or so just starting or have yet to start I would expect the cut line to drop back to +10 and Tiger will make the cut.

I don't think it works well when its raining and there is rain drops on the camera....they have had it most of the round so far that I have seen.

That's really odd, like @lastings, I get it started, and leave it in my pocket the entire round and it picks up pretty much everything except the occasional tap in putt that I go back and add. If I have to wait on a tee box, I might go back and check the previous holes to be sure it gets my first putt distance pretty close and make sure everything else looks right, but at most I look at my phone 3-5 times during a round.
-
@ChappyEight yes, I have done it several times. Just go in and download the course and you should be able to pull it up by starting a new round and checking out the holes, and then you can cancel the round. I will have to post some of my rounds with the new 360 system. I like it much better as they have a slimmer profile and I don’t have to swap out batteries. A great update to an already amazing product.

I dont like this call at all. For a guy that is trying to make a living, assessing him 8 shots worth of penalty strokes for something that isn't going to/didn't give him an advantage since he hadn't even used those 2 clubs is completely ridiculous. From what I have read the dots are on the edges of the club, and in no way (even if he had used them) would affect his ball flight. Let him take the damn stickers off, and play on. In a time when we are trying to build IMO the Vaseline argument isn't the same, because first off, we all know people use Vaseline to try to cheat to reduce spin...and it is applied directly to the hitting area of the club, these dots were nowhere near the hitting area of the club for a touring professional, or most golfers for that matter as they are applied on the outer edges of the club. How would they alter the movement of the ball??

They did say that the watch will use the same number as your phone. I'm sure it will have some sort of monthly charge, but maybe not. Verizon will probably find a way to charge the user though...

Apple watch with LTE like @Braivo has stated is amazing. Now I can leave my phone in the car or even at home and not feel like I need to carry it everywhere in case the wife needs something. I am really digging the iPhone X too...everything looks amazing on it, especially the full screen! As long as the battery life is ok on it and it doesn't come with more than a $900-1000 price tag, I am all in on this phone.

Everyone needs a change sometimes. Rory has already changed equipment, ball, etc. He admitted his golf has slipped because of himself and nobody else. He also said, that he was reflecting the blame onto his caddie which he did not want to be doing. They are very very good friends off the course too, so in an attempt to save the friendship they parted ways. Rory even said we might even see him back on the bag in the future. Make no mistake, J.P. will not be out of a job very long...

I have searched a few times trying to find something that mentions this, but to no avail. What do you guys use as a "formula" for playing in wind...headwind, tailwind, crosswind. What do you use to pick a yardage and a club with confidence? Just looking for some different ideas and just to see what works for other people. If this has already been discussed, please direct me to that forum. Thanks everyone!
