i think forged just feels softer. also i believe you are right because on center shots dont feel like you have hit a ball versus cast which can still be soft, but not as soft as forged. the best irons that i have ever hit are the callaway x protos because they felt like butter and they were somewhat forgiving for a blade. if it wasnt for the 1600 dollar price tag, those are the irons i would be playing

My titliest 3 wood just broke
AK jr. replied to obsessedgolfer's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
what part of it broke? if you bought it at a store, sometimes they will exchange it for you if they are nice. titleist may replace it for you but then again you might have to pay for a new shaft or club all together if they dont -
i have some money floating around and i want to get a set of titleist blades that are used but in great shape, possibly even just hit on the range. i have searched around the forums and found some reviews on the 690s and also some 695 vs. 690 comparisons so i am well versed in that discussion now. but i want to know how the 670s compare to the 690s and also, since there were 2 different models of 690mb irons, in 2002 and in 2005, how do u tell the difference between the years because they look identical. i really want 680's because they are smaller and have a lower ball flight than 690s, but are bigger and more forgiving that 670's

Ask Your Titleist Fall 2008 Questions
AK jr. replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I guess one question i have is about the 909 d2/3, are the only shafts that will be offered on it in stores the voodoo and the diamana blue? what makes the voodoo and diamana blue better that they will no longer offer the v2(shaft i want) or the graphite design ys-6 as stock shafts? -
Best looking irons? Have your say.
AK jr. replied to Hacksaw's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
mizuno mp-67s or cleveland cg tours -
wow if ur cousin's a clubfitter than i would definately talk to him and go through him completely
-
maybe he had that set and then got another set so now he doesnt use the 755's anymore, thus they are a "back-up set"
-
so project x shafts have a low ballflight also?
-
i agree with deron. as long as you keep the ball in play and have a good short game and rarely 3 putt then that will benefit you more than some extra yards in distance. when you get to the point where u play 9 holes and putt 13-15 times then you should see some low scores
-
i have a friend who plays with a bullseye. he loves it and i have used it many times a love it. i have just never found one in good condition, which i am still looking for. the feel is incredible because it is probably the most simplified putter you can use. i also like the fact that it is identical on both sides of the head so you can build up your right eye if you are a left eye dominant, right handed putter

n.v.m. whats ur swingspeed? mine has decreased a little bit lately but i have worked with my coach a lot and occasionally i will tell him that im going to try to crush say an 8 iron, and then i ask him if made a good swing but just at a faster speed. the other day my ball striking was incredible while i was doing this, but it just went higher and slightly farther but not enough to really make a difference. and rudygu, the steelheads weren't fitted for me, but the i10s are. i do spin the ball a ton which is sometimes adventageous. like i spun a 4 iron about 2 feet yesterday. but i have the z-z65s in them which supposedly promote a lower ball flight but i still hit it ridiculously high. im just wondering what shaft would have the lowest trajectory but then when i pound the ball it wouldn't go as high
-
they were steelhead x-14s. i like the feel of my i10s but i hit every iron extremely high. i can increase my swingspeed and still get the same control but it goes even higher and only 2-3 yards further. it just annoys me cuz im hitting my long irons about the same height as my short irons. oh and they are red dot so i think thats 1/2 a degree flat? how much does that effect ball flight/trajectory?
-
just wondering, is it true that ping irons/clubs in general will go a little bit shorter than other brands? my teacher has a ping endorsement and he is going to make a run at the senior tour, but he convinced me to get i10s a while ago and they feel good, but compared to my old callaways i am hitting a 7 iron 155 versus an 8 iron the same distance when i hit the callaways. its not a huge deal but i played with an ex tour pro friend yesterday and he said when he had his pings he had to go 1 club up.

Stock shafts? good or just ok?
AK jr. replied to granitegolf's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
im not positive about this, but most of the time you cannot get a non-stock in a taylormade driver bought off the shelf. you would have to upgrade to get a different shaft. in other drivers such as callaway and titleist, they offer a few different shafts on the store models, but you can also choose from about 10 or so custom shafts if you buy directly from the company. or if you are going to get it reshafted then you can choose whichever shaft you like. in my opinion, the shaft in your driver is ok, but you might like it a lot. -
i have used and interlock for the past 4ish years now and i find it a whole lot more controlling versus other grips. i don't know exactly why you would hit it straight with a different grip, but your swing may have been on that day. i am going to experiment with this strong grip on tuesday. i have lost some distance due to playing ping irons and my swing is no longer as fast, so i need all the distance i can get

shot 80 yesterday. 43-37. missed about 4 or 5 3 footers and hit 1 in the water. it stunk and my irons were good but my long game was really bad

Two Clubs Left to Buy: What Should They Be?
AK jr. replied to Chilli Dipper's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
3 wood and 60 for sure. a 60 is a scoring club and i would rather have a club that i could stick to 10 or less feet most of the time than a club that would put me 5-10 yards further down on par 5's cuz thats pretty much the only situation i use my hybrid if i don't hit 3 wood -
i love hitting a crisp, penetrating draw that will stop on a dime on greens and run for quite a bit on the fairway

i use a yes! tracy II as well as a scotty cameron. i love the feel on the cameron and its my number 1 gun. the yes is a solid putter but if you have an bad day on the green then the yes will punish you because you have to hit it right in the center of the face every time to get a similar feel and good distance control. it is a great putter and i find that it is great for slow/bumpy greens whereas the cameron is my first choice for fast and firm greens. its not a terrible idea to keep more than 1 putter on the rotation because different styles can be beneficial for different green types and also you have something to fall back on if you aren't putting well with a certain putter for an extent of time. some people have used the same putter for years and i used to be that way but i like switching when i feel like im losing an edge and its between and cameron and yes for me
-
i have 2 scotty's, a studio design 2.5 and a pro platinum newport 2 mid-slant. i gave the newport to my brother because i switched away from offset shafted putters due to the fact that it didn't feel right with my alignment. I switch between a yes! tracy II and the studio design. i love both putters and i play the scotty more often, but when i don't feel very confident in my putting stroke i switch to the yes! because it helps me to strike putts in the middle of the face

Experiences w/ Fujikura Rombax 6X07
AK jr. replied to DDBowdoin's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I do not have personal experience with playing that shaft in any of my drivers, but i have hit other peoples drivers who use this shaft. I really like the feel in it and it is slightly lighter than other shafts, available in 63g-68g. It could have been that this guy you saw on the range had a heavier shaft before and when he made the switch, his clubhead speed increased due to a lighter weight. This shaft also has a torque rating similar to the proforce v2 highlanch shaft which created a little bit of whippiness when i had that shaft. Some people love that extra little whip at the top and it can also help with distance a little bit as far as I know. As far as upcharge from titleist, I don't know. obviously it would be a bit more but if you really like that shaft and you play constantly then it is money well spent. hope that helps -
What are your strategies for Par 3s?
AK jr. replied to titaniummd's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
i mostly agree with the others. just get it on the green with long irons but go for the pin with scoring clubs. also take into account the depth of the green so that you can take any front bunkers or water hazards theoretically out of play -
I got my ping i10 irons about 5 months ago and like them, but i feel like i lose a little bit of distance compared to my previous set of callaway steelheads. my ball striking is consistently good enough to play blades and i was opting towards the titleist z forged before my swing coach ordered me ping i10s through his endorsment deal. i still had to pay a large portion of the sale price but it was knocked down a little bit. he said the reason for i10s is they play like blades but have more forgiveness and that pings customer service and quality is always stellar. another reason he gave was that the titleist clubs are heavier due to swingweight then most other companies clubs because they are made to be "players" clubs. knowing that i can hit "players" clubs well, i was slightly discontent because when i look back, it seems like it would not have effected me to have heavier irons because i'm decently strong. my question is: am i playing the right irons right now weight wise?
