Easily the irons. I can use them off the tee, fairway, rough, and hell, even the putting green. I can use the putter off the tee, fairway, rough, etc. but it sure won't go anywhere close to where I can get the ball with irons.

The Best Option: Component Set or National Brand Set
TyCobb replied to HytrewQasdfg's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'll take the warranties that come with the National brand. -
I'm sure you're going to have better resale value if you keep them protected with headcovers. Instead of being a 7, without headcovers they'd probably be a 5. I use headcovers for my irons and I think it was a great choice. I can't stand hearing the clank and rattle in my bag while I'm driving the golf cart.

I have my 52 wedge fitted, but I wasn't sure if I should get my 58 same specs as my irons (1/2 inch extended with 2 degrees upright) because I hit flop shots with it. I wasn't sure if the change in lie would make it more difficult. Does anybody have an opinion on that?

The best bit of advice from a random paired golfer....
TyCobb replied to TheNatural's topic in Golf Talk
I got paired up with 2 guys, one who was a 2 handicapper and the other one was a scratch golfer. I hit my ball into a green side bunker and struggled to get it out. I kept jabbing at the ball and it went nowhere. The scratch golfer told me to follow all the way through for sand shots just like I would with an iron. Ever since then I get out of bunkers in one shot now. :) -
GP New Decade Multicompounds stink...literally. I just bought new irons a couple weeks ago and ordered them with these grips. It has made my whole room stink. My girlfriend won't even go in my room anymore... Worst smelling grips ever.

What do "Game Improvement" irons actually Improve?
TyCobb replied to pittpanther's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Game Improvement irons don't improve anything. Sure they are good distance wise on off center hits but all that means is instead of my ball being 10 yards short of my target and in play, it's 20 yards to the right and out of bounds. I play Tour Preferred Irons with a thin sole and top line, little offset, little forgiveness, etc. and my scores are dropping big time. Now if I don't hit it perfect, it's at least still in play... -
I played golf with my friend and my brother one day at this terrible golf course that has a big pond. Well the pond has ducks and these huge birds that I have no idea what they are called but they always walk around the perimeter of the pond. We're playing the 6th hole with is a long par 4, right next to the pond. My brother and I both get on in two, but my friend is about 20 yards off. Just as my friend takes his third shot, all of the birds (no joke there is probably about 30 of them), run about ten yards in front of him and on to the green. These birds are huge and I wouldn't even be surprised if they couldn't fly. Well anyways, the birds huddle around mine and my brothers' golf balls that are sitting on the green and one of them picks it up and swallows it. There was a group behinds waiting to hit their approach shots so we all shoo'd the birds of the green. However, my friend still hasn't hit his third shot yet. Well, the birds are off the green and to the side, but one bird is still in his shot path. I said just wait till the bird moves but he was like they're not in my way, I'm hitting it over (cause he also had to carry a sand trap). He takes his back swing and sure enough blades it right into the side of the birds head and it falls over and his ball bounces right back in front of him. The bird fell over then got up and ran over to his friends. It was the funniest thing I have ever seen in my life. Also, at the same course on the 18th hole they have this huge rock right next to the green. The same friend (on the same day) hit his wedge, bounced off the rock, and landed 20 yards behind him. I have never seen a negative yardage shot in my life, so that was hilarious. Now it was my turn to hit it on to the green on the same hole. It was raining the day before, and we played in the morning the greens were pretty damp. Well anyways I hit my sand wedge perfect and the ball landed on the green, but we could not see where. So we walked up to the green and it was five inches to the right of the hole, but the green swallowed my golf ball. I could only see the number on the ball.

What is your favorite mallet putter and why????
TyCobb replied to Dub's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Odyssey White Hot Tour Rossie Putter. That thing set up beautifully. The shaft angle was perfect for me and the head weight too. It's too bad I went to Taylormade, cause that thing was heaven. -

Hey Ben, how did you turn pro? What did you have to do?
-
Taylormade Z Smoke TP wedges are real nice, but an underrated wedge is the Nike SV Tours. Great club for chipping, but just a little harsh on the full fairway shots.
-
Yup. I think confidence is the real issue when it comes to playing irons. If you believe you can hit it good, then you will.
-
Well, took these puppies out today for the first time at the range. Took the pitching wedge out and shanked like my first ten shots. I think it's because I was going in thinking how hard they were suppose to be to hit from my previous irons. Well, after I hit like 4 good ones in a row, I got all the confidence back and hit them great. I hit my 6, 5, 4, and 3 irons all 200+. Which is really weird, because I only managed to hit my PW about 125. But anywho, the workability is amazing. I can hit a low shot, a mile high shot, and a cut with my 3 and 4 irons. I'm actually struggling with my shorter irons, if you can believe that. :( Great feeling clubs. Amazing upgrade from my previous irons.

What's black and white, black and white, black and white, and black and white? A nun rolling down a hill.

I used to have a 52-56-60 set up, but switched to a 52-58 setup. I like this way alot better because I was only using my 60 maybe 2-3 times a round. With the grinds on wedges being alot better and easier to open up I figured I would just get rid of the 56-60 and put in a 58. It's worked out great, because what I would have wasted working on practicing 2 clubs (56-60) I can now dedicate to just my 58. I use it for chipping, sand, a lob shots. Works great.

Best new Drivers on the Market
TyCobb replied to shakogolfer78's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The driver hypes itself. There's been at least 30 players using the R9 each week of the Tour since the Bob Hope, when it came out. -
I had a Cobra, good ball flight, good distance, but got rid of it cause it sounded terrible. I sold the Cobra so I could pay for the surgery for my ear damage that it caused.
-
Yup. The 330-s is my favorite golf ball, so I compare all the new premium balls I hit to it. So far, only the TP Red rivals it, although I haven't hit the Nike Tour yet. I've heard great things about it though. Actually, I think the Nike Tour belongs in same category as 330-s.

I've heard great things about the Adams Insight Tech A4 Driver. But you can't go wrong with the R9 driver. -
I ordered mine with Golf Pride Multi Decade Compound grips... and... these are the worst smelling grips I've ever had. It smells like I just reached into a horses ass without any medical gloves on.

My irons finally came! OMG! They are beautiful! The yellow circle is so tiny I don't even think I need to take it off. Wow, nice shape, very tiny heads. Wow, beautiful clubs...
