  1. Bowling. Yes. It is all about the numbers. You need numbers to create handicaps. Yes this is a golf forum...Anybody know what a ribbed grip is? Any advise on an aggressive ribbed grip?
  2. Horse racing is horses and varies weights a few pounds...But it is horses...Karate/Wrestling/Judo there are weight classes and even belts but there is no handicapping in tournaments. Yea you compete against same size...Yea cuz a 200 pounder would slaughter a 100 pounder...But within the competitive class there is no handicap. Table Tennis, I played tournament level...Yea they give you a rating and you compete at your level...Chess has similar rating system but again at tournament level no handicap. . bowling for league play which I have done has a great handicap system...but at tournament play there is no handicap. Have never heard of Archery handicap. Let's spell it out another way....Is there any other sport at tournament level which has a gross winner and a net winner. The best golf tournaments are when similar handicapped players are grouped and then they play with....NO handicaps.....But when you play many events which group everybody together with one handicap system for the day...It is always a sandbaggers dream... So many armchair experts in the Sand Trap...But please name one sport which has a handicap system at tournament play. It might be sailing. That would fit. The elitist establishment creating time advantages for their bad racers who need help to compete....Hey that sounds like golf.
  3. So back to the original premise...Name one sport....just one....that has a handicap system for competitive play....Other than Golf. Darts, Horse Shoes, Billiards, Tennis, Boxing, Fencing, Running, Wrestling, Badminton, Table Tennis, Pickle Ball, Curling, Archery, Shooting, Swimming, Bocce Ball, Cycling, Diving, Skating, Hand Ball, Gymnastics, jai Alai, Water Skiing, Skiing, Kayaking, Karate, Judo, Raquet Ball, Foosball, Shuffleboard, Skateboarding, Rodeo, Squash, Luge, Rowing, Trampolining......So why is it that Golf has a handicap system which allows bad players to think they can compete with good players.....When there isn't one dang other sport which does this....I understand the bit about it allows Jane to compete with Bill.....Got it. But in competitive play with many times much dinero on the line....There is Golf with it's handicap. Maybe just maybe the handicap system lessens ones desire to improve....Don't want to give up any of those strokes I'm getting. In fact I want to get a few more...Ha Or maybe that is why Golf is the best game there is. It is maddening.
  4. My post ended with Ha...Go figure...So played a member guest and my partner and I are about same caps...So we live in no mans land..Can't really win gross best ball....and net...forgetaboutit….So we both played well and hammed and egged well...We posted a 70 better ball. And a 63 net...Sitting at table afterwards and guy at table bitching about how bad he played...Yada Yada Yada....He shot 83....So they make announcements of scores/winners...Our 70 was good for 4th place gross....63 not in the payout slots net....They announce the winning net team and the bitcher and partner stand up....He comes back and we congratulate him and partner. Someone asks him his handicap.....He says 25....I say to him you shot 83 with 25 handicap....net 58 on his own ball....He laughs and says he gave game up and just getting back in and his first rounds were not too good. At least his partner kicked in a couple as they shot 56.
  5. When you play real golf....you play, you post your score...end of story. When you play make believe golf. You play you post your score figure out your net based on handicap. And tell your story about how you won the net division....A real golfer has no interest in competing in net anything. Ya gotta love golf where really bad players pat themselves on the back and pronounce their winning. You see Monday to Friday I shoot 90...But come Saturday miraculously I shoot 80......Hey I won the tennis championship at my club as my opponent only got one serve and had to cover the doubles line said no tennis player ever.….Ya gotta love golf. Ha
  6. If you want a venture in futility go to congu.com and read how a handicap is calculated outside of the US....It is mind numbing. A worldwide handicap system will be a godsend for players outside the US.

  8. I lived at PGA Village for 8 years. They have a myriad of membership types. It's a half hour from area noted. The Fox Club is actively seeking members in Palm City. Go play it see if it fits. There are many decent public courses in the general area. A great deal for the summer is the SFPGA membership. Most of the private courses members exit the area and they allow play for nominal fees.
  9. Money well spent....If ya put $50 on Fleetwood to win a major in his lifetime.....You'd lose.
  10. I spit quite often. I have always had a situation with fluid build up/congestion. I can deal with it often but if I have any minor cold or similar the amount saliva I create is massive. So outside I spit a lot. When I golf/bike/hike I spit often. When golfing I typically spit away from sight and in non primary areas. If that's offensive, I don't care. It's not done to be offensive, it's done to remove excessive saliva build up. Maybe DJ has a similar situation.
  11. They are branded xxio….no name shown. I'd say for yours...Mr Ben Dover
  12. I have always been a fan of ribbed grips. With many of the new adjustable clubs much of the grip selections are round. A friend got a new hybrid XXIO and I took a swing with it. It had an aggressive ribbed grip on it which I loved. I have viewed the XXIO website but there is no info re the grips they use. Does anyone have knowledge of a grip mgr which sells very ribbed grips. I love how it sits in my hands. Thank You.
  13. Golfers Journal is fabulous. I subscribed as I was made aware by Golf Odyssey....I get way too many mags as it is but Golfers Journal is unique. I have gotten all issues. The photography is special. The content comes from a unique perspective. When I get my Golf/Golf Digest.....they are read and tossed same day. I tear out any special travel info. Golfers Journal and Links Mag I have got and will not toss an issue.
  14. What specific features of RNK did you not like? Which holes were the worse in your view?
  15. Give a try to swinging the longer choked up an inch or so. You might be positively surprised. I was.
  16. I have thought of a shorter driver which this is. I looked at the original one....I played the original Pittsburgh Persimmon for maybe 7 years 1980 to 87....I had a 7 degree and I knocked the snot out of it. The new one is like 43 1/2 inches. It is pretty pure though in its face angle. It's not offset or similar. It's a shorter club with a smaller head which swings faster than these monster heads. After thought to go this way....I watched a bunch of the ladies play.....and many of them choke their driver up. So I tried that and became much more comfortable over that club. It feels so much lighter. I would suggest try that before going to a shorter club. It's kinda best of both...Big Head and swings a little faster and with more control.
  17. PGA stats published show rounds played up. Participation up. Are some clubs struggling, yes and they will continue to. I have not seen Turnberry or Doonbeg financials...But a review of his buy prices vs the prior investments by the previous owners suggest your points are off. I have worked in golf industry for 10 years and have attended PGA Show every year. Up to this year the mood has typically been tepid at best. It is upbeat now. There is no data that can convince you otherwise as you just hate the man. And I am at the exact opposite end. I have played 11 of his courses and 6 of them before and after his ownership. Every time it got better. Doonbeg, Turnberry, Hudson Valley, Philly, The two in NJ....all better than previous ownership and the 4 private in US are at capacity of membership.
  18. That is your prerogative. You are missing out on a lot of great golf courses.
  19. Your point of view is sadly out of touch with reality. Trump almost always buys distressed property where the owner prior dumped buckets of money in. He buys at 20cents on dollar and the properties make money. Turnberry and Doonbeg are good examples on that. He brought Ferry Point along after decades of poor management and now it is doing well. Those records are public as it is a muni. But he just manages it. His build out in Scotland was his only true from scratch build. My guess is it doesn't make money....Many people jump into golf courses based on passion for game and the course vs profit motive. Golf industry is doing well. Play is up. Courses opening more than closing...Those are facts...
  20. So the Donald pays 50k for an employees wedding.....What employer does that...None I have known. And you are no fan. He used other peoples money in AC. He uses his money for golf courses because he knows that business....Shady NJ and gambling.....Notsomuch. His golf courses are first class every possible way.
  21. Have played Old 6 times, only once with advance tee time. Ballot 3 times and twice walk up day of....early. Have had groups of 8 and 12 with me and we have all played every time....but not with advance times. Ballot is ok...walk up is easy if you are highly motivated...as in 4am motivated if in mid summer. It really is all about the dates. St Andrews is a bear in August/September. Best path is slightly off schedule to mid summer.
  22. I have done 6 trips with sons. One trip was just Son and I. I understand the economics quite well. Yes, You will surpass time allotment for a driver with the trip noted. Engaging with tour operators with St And Old included is just for those who don't ever ask how much. Having booked etched in stone Muirfield and RT....Coordinating the Old will be cumbersome at best. Meantime you have 500 plus miles to cover to go elsewhere which will require specific times/days...Fitting in the Old without advance times because that escalates price very much.....Good Luck. Scotland is not user friendly...That's why I have gone to Ireland 12 times vs Scotland 7....Wales once, England once.
  23. No Berwick one of my all time faves...Very worth playing again. The rotation you note is an insane amount of travel. You are in essence covering 4 areas noted as stand alone areas....Trump Aberdeen is spectacular....It's like this trip is a drive by trip. 2 stops each spot. To each his own. That's a lot of movement for one trip. I would suggest two areas of either the two North or the two South. You'll drive right by Carnoustie too. Blow out Gullane play NB....Yea ya gotta play two in St Andrews....RA is fab, CB is one of my faves and Trump is better than either in the area...It is that good. You roll up and wow RD and you blow right by Castle Stuart and Nairn but go up further to Brora...And then it is a long journey to RT and Turnberry….All great courses you are playing. Just to play them all on one trip is quite aggressive either as hiring a bus or driving it.....If you are helicoptering or similar, well....I want to be in your group...Ha
  24. Have only played PV once....and I had a horrible caddy. Have been to British Isles 21 times and have played most everything worth going for. Muirfield afternoon Scottish play is insane. Those who know how to play alt shot can play ridiculously fast. I know the system well, I'm the trip coordinator....With Muirfield and Royal Troon...You have to play No Berwick. Sounds good. Enjoy. Royal New Kent reopened and is definitely a top 10..... but top 5 on my list.
