Everyone love Bill Murray, and rightfully so. But the real star of Caddyshack is obviously the little furball he's hunting: the Gopher! It's so obvious. Hell, he can even dance! What's not to love about'm?

Rife putters. Anyone using them?
Spackler-esque replied to Danattherock's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Yeah... I am over a 15. I don't lose it on the greens. I average around 30 putts per round and have only had 1 three-putt this year in 10 rounds. It ain't the arrow (which is awesome)... Rife is the #1 putter on the Champion's Tour without paying anyone to use their product ... whereas Odyssey pays players to use their putters. Hmmm... I guess Odyssey isn't for everyone, either. And having owned an Odyssey putter before buying my Rife (and trying a brand new Sabertooth yesterday when an old man I played with insisted I do), the Rife rolls much truer. That's just how it is. The dew test they show on the Rife infomercial is the truth. -
I'm not disagreeing that they make some great clothing (I love their pants, shoes, and shirts) and some really good clubs (the pro combo tours are still some of my favorite irons ever), but read that statement again and try to figure out what's not right... I'll give you a second... All golf companies just focus on golf equipment. They all spend a lot on R&D.; It's not like Nike is alone here. Nike is a diversified company, unlike Acushnet. They don't focus solely on golf. Call me biased after looking at my sig and seeing what I play. Whatever. I see Bridgestone, Mizuno, and other smaller-share brands having a better chance at grabbing market share than Nike at really taking over the scene. It's just not going to happen for Nike. I don't care that they have Tiger. They have a long way to go and seem to discontinue their best clubs (forged pro combo tours, forged CCIs, original blades...).

Check out this article with Phil and Faldo trash talking.
Spackler-esque replied to rckwd's topic in Golf Talk
First of all, I will agree that Tiger is abrasive. Ooooo! I like his interviews. They have more substance than Phil's do. They're more professional. That being said, I'm not a Tiger junkie. I like him, but I didn't miss the hype when he was out. What Lemay427 clearly stated, that you somehow completely missed, is that Phil seems like a real fake. Nowhere did he say that Phil was an ass because he isn't as dominant as Tiger. He said he respected dominance over faux-personality, autographs, and handshakes. Phil's personality is manufactured. He's a flake and it shows. He's a love-able (to some, not me) buffoon. A manufactured Everyman. This has been discussed at length on this forum before. If you have issue with it, go find one of those threads and post away. So, when Phil busts someone's balls (unnecessarily loudly, it reads like), someone who has played better golf than Phil does, and gets what seems like a cold response in return before continuing to call the guy a ***** and a woman... Yeah, that's being an ass. Seems pretty simple to me. But as I said, I'm not surprised. It's Phil being Phil. -

Rife putters. Anyone using them?
Spackler-esque replied to Danattherock's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Been gaming a Mr. Beasley for two to three years and I absolutely love it. It rolls better than any putter I've used. Even side-by-side with my buddy's SC Newport 1.5 (and at the time I was strongly considering buying a SC so I wasn't really biased towards my putter) I liked the feel of the Rife better. Only thing that'll be getting the Beasley out of my bag anytime soon might a Rife Abaco. -
82 (38/44) with par at 71 (35/36). Everything was going great on the front, and then my track workout last night started to catch up with me on about hole 12. Legs just weren't there and my swing fell out of sync. Killed my chance to break 80 for the first time. At least I was able to regroup on 18 to hit the fairway and get a GIR within 6 feet, even if I did two-putt for par (had 28 putts all day).

When I was playing full-cord grips my hands tended to shred. Now that I've switched to non-cord grips on my irons I'm not having that problem. Even with half-cords (New Decades) I don't have much trouble. That being said, I still wrap athletic tape on two fingers when I go out to the range or if I'm playing several days in a row. It works after the fact, too, but I'm a big fan of preemptive solutions. Why let it happen if you can stop it?

20+ handicappers hitting 300 yards (mild rant)
Spackler-esque replied to extremeld's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
As is, you mean? If someone with a terrible swing can crush a driver can they also crush any other club? Of course. However... I'll use your numbers. You said that the guys were killing it and hitting it straight maybe 1 in 20 times. I'm sure they would have about the same success rate with any other club if they're lucky (not having an ideal lie all the time and all). There's your answer. They could, but the percentages are strongly stack against them. -
20+ handicappers hitting 300 yards (mild rant)
Spackler-esque replied to extremeld's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
grantc79: How can you be right after you admitted you were wrong? 1) You saw people who are maybe 20 handicappers drilling the ball, which; 2) Caused you to admit it's possible. However; 3) You say that you are still right (whatever that means) because with your understand of the mechanics of a golf swing and of biomechanics and such they could be scratch golfers. Unfortunately; 4) That doesn't matter because by admitting you were wrong (as per #2) you conceded the argument. After all; 5) It's irrelevant what people could do under your tutelage. What matters is what they can do now. So; 6) You're still wrong as you have admitted that a fundamentally unsound swing can produce a 300 yard drive or something approximating it (as per #2, again). Other than apathy, indifference, time, money... There are a lot of reasons why that is not realistic at all. Please, stop putting your foot in your mouth. Maybe it's a good stretch that helps loosen up those tight hips of yours. I don't know. But stop trying to defend an indefensible argument that you already conceded. -
Looking into a new putter
Spackler-esque replied to Iowa Hawkeye's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Guerin Rife Abaco. Not sure the weight's exactly what you want, but it's a really nice mid-mallet putter. -
85 in very nice conditions. A lot of solid play and a handful of "coulda, woulda, shoulda" holes... Breaking in the new Mizuno's was a blast in beautiful weather especially as they weren't the clubs that gave me issues.

Probably a little from pile a and a little from pile b. I love the Southern drawlish sorta thing, though. Having played a number of rounds in TN and spent a whole lot of time on the range, it sounds very familiar. A shake of the head, a laugh, and a twinge of pity for the damn fool for being such a putz. Actually, I think that twinge was just my neck cracking. Oh well.

Putter Length... How tall are you?
Spackler-esque replied to MSB256's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
5'11"-6' depending on who measures and I use a 35" putter. My next putter will probably be a 34". Longerish arms. -
First of all, you're completely out of line. Secondly... All you had to say was that his foot isn't a damn club and it's over. If it's not, well, f your friend for being retarded.

A regular at the bar where I used to work used to drink a combination I started calling a "Monkey Maker" when he was out to get drunk. That's a Golden Monkey and a shot of Maker's Mark. It'll certainly do the job.

The Southern Tier Chokolat is even better on draft if you can find it somewhere... So tastey... The Samichlaus is a nice beer. Really, really malty to the point of sweetness, if I recall properly. Gets better as it warms up. I really want to try the Samichlaus Helles sometime. I have a bottle of Troubador Obscura Mild Stout sitting around that I need to crack open sometime. So good.

Do you put a line on your ball?
Spackler-esque replied to jhawker23's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I hate alignment aids or alignment marks on the golf ball. I know I'm undoubtedly in the minority, but I find them distracting. I'd rather concentrate on the green and on my putter than on my ball. The ball just gets in the way of a good stroke anyway, right? Making sure the line on their ball is aligned perfectly gives most golfers an excuse for taking half-an-hour to line up a five foot putt, I guess. -
Why use an expensive piece of equipment? Start doing yoga. Trust me.

I don't know about recent Acer sets, but I started out playing a set of Acer XDS irons and loved'm. Forgiving and true enough for me at the time (about 12-18 years old). They make good product.

Seeing as I started out with power (because the long ball is sexy, regardless of what sport it's in, obviously...) and it still haunts my game to some extent today, I'm gonna have to go with accuracy here. Too easy to get into really bad habits trying to kill the ball. Still trying to work my way out of all of'm ten years later.

Sky Caddie .... WOW
Spackler-esque replied to Hidalgo's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
The point is that opinions are irrelevant when passed off as fact, as seems to be your only MO. If you want to keep lying, fine. Have fun. No. A discussion involves civil discourse. You're practicing Bill O'Reilly discussion tactics which involves calling names, yelling louder, and generally making shit up and passing it off as fact. You really are a sad individual. You're not worth it. I'm done feeding the troll. -

Spackler-esque replied to Hidalgo's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Yes, in that it shows that you're an ass all in one place as opposed to us having to run around and try to verify. Thanks. Opinion played off as fact. Oops. Fail. Again, opinion played off as fact. Oops again! Fail again! Third time's the charm? No. Still opinion being played off as fact. Covers what? Some things that might be facts but, because of the rest of your thinly veiled opinions no one will believe/take seriously because you don't provide any sources? Good for you... You know. Screw this technology shit. If you use a rangefinder you're obviously a chopper because otherwise you'd be using a hand-made, personally-paced-off yardage book. I mean, if you can't take the time to walk the course and meticulously plan out your round, you clearly lack the dedication required to be considered a real golfer, you damn chopper. /sarcasm Umm... Right. I'm pretty sure it's not. Again, your opinion is wrong. Oops.
