What equipment changes did you make this year?
Sante TwoGloves replied to Sante TwoGloves's topic in Golf Talk
yeah, right. if i remember its like -157 or something. there are like only 4 other sets of irons rated worse. i think its because of the big offset which is so extreme from what he makes and recommends. -
there was a pitcher this year in the mlb who pitched both ways in the same inning. he has a glove that works with either hand. he pitched the lefties left handed and the righties right handed. it was pretty cool to see. there have been a few shots this year when i was carrying a full bag that messed up my head some not sure which club and which way to swing but since dropping down to 8 that hasnt been much of an issue. i like that if i am slicing my driver too much one day i can come off the tee with my 5 wood and if i miss with that its usually the opposite way of my driver miss so i can decide which club to play based on where the trouble is. i also like my wedges opposite for other reasons, the lie, slope of the green, etc.

I have been using a driver all year but have been inconsistent with it. Last week I opened my face, opened my stance and was able to keep my ball in the fairway with a high, big looping ball. I practiced the shot at the range and played it and it worked but iI have been limping around all week ever since. My right thigh and hip got all messed up. It's getting better and I hope to start hitting the driver again soon. I have an event coming up where I really could use it, a 7200 yard course. For the other small courses I plan on playing this year I am tinkering with the idea of leaving it home and coming off the tee with a 3w, 5 wood, or hybrid. I used to play both ways decades ago. This is the my first year with a mixed bag. A left shoulder injury at the start of the year hindered my right handed swing on my driver and woods so I started the year left with them and the rest right handed. But I have been adding clubs and changing sides all year. Haha read a right eye dominant person may have an advantage putting left so I made that switch a month ago and I am putting better. I am pretty happy with my setup right now finally. I just need to get my drives better. Losing a lot of distance. so much that I'm not that much further than my woods and they go straight most of the time.

I read here that With the fly z it's almost impossible to hit a slice. Is that what happened with you to see that big jump in distance? I need one of those too if that's the case. -
Well I only played one 9 so far this way and scored better. Going at it again next Monday. I definitely had less stress deciding which clubs to select. No second guessing. Made my selections easily and hit. I really wasn't between clubs much that day. My friend played with 5 clubs and was 4 over losing three strokes on one par 3. He was inbetween clubs and decided to hit an easy 7 iron and pushed it ob. Later we thought he should have choked down and hit with his normal swing. Need less distance hit a fade, need more hit a draw, etc. Having to manufacture different shots like that I think will help my game in the long run. It sure makes practicing easier with only 8 clubs to sharpen.

Either way I think he should be permitted to lift and clean it before his second shot.

Did you try it? After skimming through the book that's the one thing I decided to try and I have been more consistent with my ball striking. I'm more of a picker or sweeper than a digger and doing that seems to fit my swing better.

You never know what you are going to find at Goodwill. That's where I got my irons. I snatch up anything that looks good. Our local play it again gives me half in trade of what they think they can sell clubs for. Probably would have gotten $12 or so for that steelhead. Quick profit. :-D

I haven't met him yet but someone gave me his card. There is a man in my area who fits and custom makes clubs for people and also teaches people how to play in his backyard. He has one hole set up. The only thing about any credentials mentioned was that he is 81 and he still scores in the eighties. He charges ten bucks a lesson.

Wouldn't that be great if he did? Wonder how much of the comments made here he agree would with.

Cool. I got 4 down 9 to go. :-D

just started reading Hank haney's book The Big Miss about his time coaching Tiger Woods and he mentions that Tiger goes through the progression of nine different ball flights with each club. What are the nine different shots? How many can you pull off and with which clubs?
-
What did you add, what did You replace? Did it make a difference in your game good or bad? I changed my whole bag and even ball. Got a lot more shots To the green check up and spin using prov1s vs. The slazengers I used to play. My irons replaced clubs from the 90s and made big improvements but hey I was playing Cleveland vas irons which have one of the worst maltby rating ever. I always liked them back in the day though. 460 driver replaced cobra ceramic head/Kevlar that had a stiff shaft which I can't hit very well any more. And added a hybrid and dropped my 3,4, and 5 irons. Big improvement for me there too. How about you?

Maybe I should have made my if bigger so you would have seen it. :-)

I only play every two weeks. In between I will go to a range about three mornings a week. I only hit about 25 balls each time. Twice a month i spend a few hours chipping and putting at a practice green.

Awesome. Thanks for the info.

I say your chances are good if you can get better, stay focused in college, qualify, and then find a bunch of money to keep it going.

I have only tried hitting a driver one time off the deck in my life, the first time I ever played. My friends gave me some clubs and took me to play my first big course. It was like throwing a baby into the deep end of a pool. No one told me that hitting a driver was not such a great idea. I hit that 9 degree about 20 yards all the way down some holes. Haha shot an 80. Just played there with the same guys 30 years later and had a 43. Didn't pull out the driver once for any fairway shots this time.

Range finder, left handed ping eye 2 irons black dot with reg flex graphite, Right or left handed Callaway Steelhead plus 3 wood, and hitting a ticket so I can join the private club next door to my lady's place.

I am trying to put together an outing for my friends. It's really a reunion with old friends and guys I have played with this year. We picked a monster of a course to play with 8 clubs or less. We have three foursomes, all grouped based on skill level and age. No one has an established HCP and even the best of us should be playing from the whites. My buddies and I always played from the furthest tees 30 years ago and we want to play from the tips this time. We range from 10-20 hcp I would guess. We have another group that if they break 120 they are having a good day and a senior foursome all close to 70 and shorter hitters. 1,000 yards is the difference from the whites and the blacks. We don't have any hcps to use to even things out some. Would it be a good idea to play from different tees? First flight black tees, 2nd flight from the blues, and seniors from the whites for example. We tweaked some rules to speed up play like ten stroke max per hole, and two swings and you're out from the sand. If we all play from the blacks it could get ugly. Maybe each foursome could have the option of which tees to play from? Please share your ideas. Thanks for the help

That's twice I have seen you say that. It's not Life is a bitch then you die, It's Life it is bitch, then you marry one, THEN you die. :-) Btw, that's not my wife in my profile pic, that's my soul mate and world.

Well here is one explanation Repetitive Strain Injury/golf hip injury Expert: Julie Donnelly, LMT - 1/2/2009 Question I am right handed. After playing several rounds of golf my right hip began to hurt and front right thigh pain as well. It now only hurts in the front of the thigh after two days rest, but is aggravated when rising to a standing position. Walking seems Ok. A paractice golf swing brings a little pain when my weight is transferred from tye right foot to the left on the follow through. What's happening. Answer Hi Tom, The odds are your right iliopsoas (more on that in a minute) is contracted and when you go to take your swing you are over-stretching it. The iliopsoas is a muscle that originates on the front side of your lumbar vertebrae and goes along the inside of your pelvis, inserting into your inner thigh bone just below your pubic bone. When it is shortened by repetitive movement (sitting/walking/climbing stairs is a repetitive movement for this muscle) it will pull your pelvis out of alignment and distort your entire hip joint, and by referral also cause knee pain. When the iliopsoas is tight it will also cause your quadriceps to go into a spasm, which makes your hip (and low back) worse, etc., etc. It keeps going back and forth, one muscle making the other tighter. You can read a much better explanation about this muscle and how it causes hip/low back/knee pain by going to http://www.julstro.com and reading about repetitive strain injuries, and then the two sections titled "Muscles and Pain" and "What's Happening Exactly." Also, while you are on the website, take a look at the forum and find threads about hip, thigh, and knee pain. You'll get enough information to understand what is happening to you. The good news is it is easy to self-treat the muscles, you'll understand when you read the website. You'll be able to treat the quadriceps first, and that will help to release the tension the iliopsoas is placing on your hip. Wishing you well, Julie Donnelly
