  1. It happened to me last night, during league play. I hit off of the tee, blocked it right on a par 5. The ball went through a palm tree leaf, and trickled about 100 yards. A twosome on the 18th coming in must have played my ball, because after the other two of my threesome hit, all three of us went to the area we saw my ball head to. We found a Pinnacle. I was hitting a DT Solo with long green marks on the ball. The rough wasn't bad. Lost ball-not a good way to start league night.
  2. I have an issue that may be similar, although it's on my right hand. It feels jammed to me as well, to the point of pulling it and releasing it, then shaking it out. Two things have helped. Changing my grip (in my case stronger), and using a firmer grip (yes firmer). Hope it helps!
  3. ~123 yds. Number 8 at Magnolia Plantation in Lake Mary, FL. Half swing/punch shot on my 9i, nice draw, rolled right into the hole. I wish my eyes were better, as I didn't see it drop.
  4. Wash the grips-it helps a great deal. Also rotate gloves throughout the round. I have multi-compounds now and they are better than the Golf Pride solid black grip. But, I will bre trying a full cord Lamkin soon.

    I broke 80!

    Congratulations!!!!
  6. What is your focus when you are taking your practice swing? Is it different when you take your stroke? Perhaps focusing on the target, not the ball will help. For me, it's overswinging or trying to kill it-lunging at the ball. Sounds like you may be doing this, coming over the top, coming in steep, digging the divot. I wouldn't worry about taking a small divot on the practice and a small divot on the shot. Just fill them, and try not to take too many of them.
  7. Are you missing 3 footers? If so, circle the hole with 6 balls at three feet (length of your putter), and don't leave until you make all 6 without missing-or set a time limit. Lag putting-develop feel. To develop feel, line up 20' from a target...a tee in the ground will do. Put another tee inline, 10 foot from you. Hit a ball and approach the far target. Hit the next ball, if it passes the previous ball, it's -1 point. If it's past the first tee, but doesn't pass the next ball, it's +1 point. The goal is to see how many points you can get. If you don't pass the 1st tee, the round is over and record your score...now beat that score. Playing with a friend? play "horseshoes". Pick a hole. 2 balls each. Sink it, 3 points, within a club length is 1 point, but only the closest get's points. Play to 21. There are more ideas in the books putting out of your mind by Rotella, and Zen Golf by Parent...both available on audiobook. I listen on the way to the course.
  8. Congratulations! 3 birds and 3 pars is great! Start making it a habit!

    In the ZONE

Congratulations! I can relate! If you feel the excitement of 1 under after 6 during the round, it is a good idea to ignore the score. Add it up afterwards. I know it's tough, but it was a requirement for me to break 80. 1 under through 6 shows that you are capable. That's a third of the way there... I am listening to the audio book Zen Golf. I definitely believe this will help me to find the zone, as opposed to waiting for it to come to me, and I highly recommend it for those looking to improve their approach to the game!
  10. My best shots occur when I turn my body first, shifting my weight to my right foot's instep. My poor shots occur when I start with my shoulders, and my worst, when I start with my hands or wrists. I also struggle with coming to the inside by turning the wrists back, instead of hinging properly.
  11. I have tile throughout the house. I needed to purchase something to putt on. Check out ebay and search for putting green. djvsupplies sells a 6x12 piece of green carpet that works well. They say it rolls to a 10. I purchased one. 55.00 plus 20 for shipping. I can believe it rolls to a 10. It's sufficient in size, and rolls up and stores in the corner of my office. I also made my own putting guide similar to Pelz's Putting Tutor. I used plexi glass from Lowes, drilled holes and used tees to putt through. I also used red tape for lines on the back, then painted it with black paint, all on the bottom. So from the top, it's smooth, and looks good, without reflecting bright light. If you prefer to purchase one: http://www.pelzgolf.com/dave_pelz_go...ing_tutor.aspx
  12. It would be most cost effective to install the extensions and grips first. If you like them, great, if not, reshaft. You should be able to re-use the grips if you blow them on and off.
  13. Congratulations on the new sticks!
  14. No idea, other than Mizuno receives very few complaints. Look on the used rack for the J36s to try to hit one. That is where I found mine.
  15. Thank you for posting the reminder. Thank you for all that have served, and I hope that those that continue to serve make it home safely.
  16. The forward leang clubshaft allows more compression of the ball than a perpendicular shaft. More ball speed and spin, more consistency.
  17. I have the pocket cavities, and do not believe the topline is thick at all. But I came from AP1s which had a very thick topline in my opinion. I don't have a Cavity back to compare to though.
  18. You intended to take a stroke. It's a stroke. Yes, it's still a penalty. (someone else please confirm whether it's 1 or 2 strokes though) If you are certain it was moved, you may move it back without penalty. You cannot modify the lie. Play it even if it's in a footprint.
  19. Five for me! It was last week, and it was the first time I broke 80 with a 74!
  20. No warm up, 12 swings, avg was 107. High of 114, on this particular day. In the past, after warmup, avg has been 116 with a high if 124. The ball has a low flight, for sure. I can tee it up higher and acheive height if need be. It may be a bit low, but I will leave it alone, until I become more consistent in my swing.
  21. This could very well be. Thank you for this insight. I wish I had more time now...wife is getting antsy...taking the kids to Aquatica. I will try this tomorrow. The point I was making was that Mike wants the tilt to the right at address, not that he was unable to explain how to keep my head from moving. Sorry for the confusion. I haven't asked Mike. I will ask my instructor and he will bring Mike in, if he can't explain it. Zach's instructor is Mike Bender, I would assume that if I were to see this tilt, it would be in Zach. I understand that it is imperative. I am working my way through TGM and am learning..slowly, but learning. Thank you for explaining how! I look forward to studying and practicing more.
  22. Am I crazy? I assume that you are asking that because I am asking questions on the forum, instead of asking my instructor. I have asked my instructor, and spent considerable time-and have yet to accomplish the goal. There are two fixtures that he gave me-as follows: One is in the MEGSA equipment where I have a pad to the right, or left of my head. The other is with a long shaft (two of them together) in a shaft holder, with a noodle on the end. Place that in front of you and put that against the left or right side of my face at address. The issue is that he is giving me things to put in my way, but I have yet to "hear" or "understand" it. So, I am doing homework-jury is still out on crazy. "One of the biggest things in the posture, is the tilt of the body" is how Mike Bender leads into this section on his video. This is paraphrased, but I just watched the video from Mike Bender Academy and this is done because the right hand is lower than the left, so the right shoulder should be lower than the left. The process that he uses is to stand straight, put a shaft hanging vertically from your sternum, and hold it to your sternum. Lean to your right, until the shaft contacts your left inner thigh. I did this in the mirror, and the resulting position is the position you see in the video. I do, but I have not heard your explanation with regards to how to accomplish it. Perhaps it's the piece of the puzzle that I am missing. I sure hope it is! It's not just a Mike Bender teacher...it's Mike Bender himself as well. I am fortunate to have him in the back yard. It's plain as day, in the video-the explanation as described above. I'd love to post a video of it, but it's copyrighted. I picked up the game 2 years ago-August of 08. I recently shot a 74 and a lot of it is due to my lessons there, reading, and studying and filtering information here. I don't have time right now...heading out with the family, but I will see if I can see this tilt in Zach Johnson. The other issue with me, is I am 6'4" with a 34 inch inseam. With the majority of my height being in my upper body, might I have to have less tilt? I will ask my instructor, and perhaps Mike. I am just not sure what follow up questions to ask. 10-4-it's probably longer than it was on the day that I shot 74, I battle that regularly. I will do my best to understand side tiliting. This is the departure I was referring to. I haven't "heard" or comprehended this. Not to say I haven't been told, but...that's another issue altogether.
  23. I played Victoria Hills about a month ago, with my brother. We were so excited, seeing it was rated as a top course in Sept-09 Golf Magazine. The greens were shot. The cold winter, and I assume lack of budget, did them in. I am told they have not yet recovered. The course has character though. Disney has some good deals in the afternoons right now. Might want to go for a twilight round one day.
  24. I have flattened my swing considerably, and wanted to take my driver back to Golfsmith and get on the launch monitor and see if I had a reason to change out shafts. I went over to the used club rack to look at drivers and pulled another Ping Rapture V2 out with the Diamana 63g stiff shaft. I have the stock stiff shaft. I forget the guys name, but I explained my situation and wanted to swing both clubs. The bottom line, after about 4 swings with my driver, he looked at the numbers and said, there is no need to buy anything different (2400 rpm and 9.5 degree launch angle). He still let me try the other club. I spent 20 minutes of his time, and next time I need help, I will go looking for him. I figure it's getting harder to find good customer service, so I wanted to put this out there.
  25. Thanks guys! That feels great to see! Knowing how much more work I have to put into my swing to become consistent is tempering the excitement, however, your enthusiasm has me very excited! I am putting together a practice plan to review with my instructor this week! "in the zone" definitely feels great!
