Well it's Friday now, where are the pics!!!!!

I got the R7 CGB Max Limited and was fighting a bad slice that came and went. I set up the club with the max weight to promote a draw, and this club is 1* open as compared to my old closed face draw bias Sumo. I hit everything dead straight or with a slight draw now. I've played with the weights and it is quite amazing how much they make a difference. Just by going to a lighter weight I started hitting fades that were pretty consistent. Moving the heavy weight to the Fade side, I was hitting some ugly fades and worse slices. I like this option because as I work on my swing I get bring the club back to a more standard weighting, but on game day, I can feel sure that I know where the ball is heading. Josh

I drive the ball on average about 245-255. Max length measured via GPS was 305, shortest Drive in my past 5 rounds that I've kept track of was 228. I drive a Cadillac CTS and my Wife is an ex chearleader and is HOOOTTT!

Bought a new Driver shaft... Fujikura Rombax
fischman replied to ScottL's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I recently purchased the Taylormade CGB Max Limited driver, and it came with this as one of the 3 shafts that you get with it. It is my favorite shaft so far. The lightness is perfect I think, and I'm like you and prefer the lighter shafts. The ball trajectory is exactly what I wanted. It's low to mid and very piercing. It's also the shaft that gives me best distance out of the 3 that came with it. It works for my swing, I hope it works good for you. Josh F -
I like this advice too, because it forces you to find that same swing you had before you switched it up. I find that I can get in a good groove and hit everything straight. But as soon as I switch it up, I loose the feeling and it takes me a bit to get it back again. I think this is more representative of how well ingrained the right swing is getting. When you can switch back and forth with any club and still have that feeling, or go and chip and putt and come back and hit the driver like you were before when you found your groove. This is what I try to do. Josh

Well, I am more than satisfied with this club. I don't have any places close by that allow trying different shafts with different kick points and flexes, so I've been forced to hit the few friends clubs and the random other people who've bee kind enough to let me swing theirs to get an idea of what I like. I've gamed a Nike Sumo Knock off with a no name Regular flex shaft and got decent distance but sprayed the ball everywhere. So, I got the club yesterday, and took it to the driving range. I've never hit so many straight balls in my life. And the 3 shafts truely make huge differences in the trajectory of the ball. My favorites are the Diamana Whiteboard and the Fujikura Rombax with the Rombax giving me the best all around trajectory. The Matrix shaft is a much higher trajectory and might be fun to play to, but the lower trajectories seem to be far better for me. Balls are straighter, longer, and feel like butter coming off the face. I've been grinning for 2 days. I played 9 holes with my buddy last night after the range, and he was amazed that I was ending up dead straight every hole. And I shot 4 over on 9 holes, which is about 5 shots better than my best previous 9 holes at that course. I give credit to no lost balls and the added yardage making the par 5's reachable with a shorter iron than I was using before. Anyways, I highly recommend this package. At the $299 price I paid, I would be hard pressed to find a club with more adjustability for cheaper. Josh

DOH!!! Shoulda proof read that... hehehehe... And so what if I do, I'm a swinger... hehehe A golf club swinger... OK that was bad.

I've always wondered this too. How would one decide which club to replace which. I would assume a 3h of the same loft as a 3i would go further due to more mass in the head and a thinner face similar to a driver. Is there some sort of convention for trading out clubs like a 4h replaces a 3i or a 4i? Or get a hybrid with the same, lower, higher loft than the club you are replacing? Thanks for the info! Josh

Putters are like women to me. I've liked and tried alot, but everyone has to find the one perfect match for them. And some of us like to have a couple around so we always have a choice. BTW, I love my 2-ball and feel you get more for your money out of the Odyssey's over the Scotty's but if you game the Scotty better, save your pennies and get one.

Well, I just ordered one. Should be fun to play around with the 3 different shafts and weights. At roughly the same price as the R9 is going for, I figured it was alot more bang for the buck. Anyone else gamed this club. It's supposed to be a more classic sized and shaped club than the standard CGB Max which is larger and has the Triangular shaped head. I'll update with my feelings once I play with it this weekend. Josh

I'd like to know, is this on a scale of 10? 20? 100?
-
Have you hit any of these yet? That would be my recommendation. Go hit them all and see which feel the best for you. Being a 3 handicap, you should be able to play any of these clubs well, it'll be mainly which feel right for you. No one else can tell you that. Josh

Golf GPS units? Suggestions?
fischman replied to trog2233's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I went with the neo, yes you can buy a used SG2 for cheaper, but then you still have to pay the annual fee or lose your maps. I love owning my maps, I have nearly every place I plan on playing in the next few years and still have 50+ maps to download out of the 100 I get. Since I don't travel a lot, I will likely not have to pay another subscription, when it gets close to expiring, I'm just going to download any course I might like to play some day, although by the time I can travel I'll probably have upgraded to something newer. Doesn't the R7 Limited also have moveable weights though? For $200 bucks though this is a steal, you could probably turnaround and ebay it for a profit, as all of my local shops still have this priced at $299. Josh

Played my first round last night with the E6+'s and I'm sold. I could see that someone looking for alot of spin around the green might not like these. However they play with a soft feel and go looong and straight. I hit one drive that normally would have ended up in the next fairway over, and instead it only ended up in the first cut of the fairway I was on. It was funny, cuz I hit it and hung my head expecting it to be way off line, then I stood there watching in amazement as it straightened out and bounced on the fairway and rolled into the first cut of the rough. I'll be playing these until I can build a more consistent swing. Josh F

I just picked up a sleeve of the E6+'s to try out. I've worked my really bad slices out into a fade/occasional slice. I'm hoping these bring me closer to the straight/occasional fade. So far I've just putted them around the house and they have a nice premium ball feel off of the putter. I was surprised considering the Surlyn cover, but I'm very excited to hit these tonight.

Did you do the TP version? or one of the standard R9's? I get $199.99 with the 460.

Just more proof that accuracy/consistency is the key to this game. This reminds me that one of these days I'm going to play a round not hitting anything higher than my 5 iron. I think I could come out ahead of my regular playing just because I'd be in the fairway more often. Josh.

Huge slice with driver-help!!!!
fischman replied to ScottyCameron's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I've been battling this same thing. I think I've narrowed it down to my wrists not turning over and squaring the club until after impact. I've been trying to focus on this but have had mixed results. I have found that the hand positioning trick that caddy45 used definitely helps with this since I don't have to rotate my wrists as far to get it back to square. Josh -
Hello, Mason City, IA here.

I think it could be done, not sure if that guy could do it. The keys in my mind would be to make sure the course was less than 6500 yards and no gimmicky holes like 140yd island holes. Here is my rational Avg throw of 70yds - Total distance of 6500 yards = Roughly 93 strokes + 2 rolls per hole avg = 129 It would be possible, difficult but possible. If the course is shorter, closer to 6000 yards, and he can avg 80 yards per throw, he'd be looking at 111 with 2 rolls per hole for putting. The benefits are that it should be much easier to avoid ending up out in the trees, and the rough and sand traps wouldn't hurt you since you pick up the ball and throw it. Shots/throws close to the green would be easy to get close to the pin. I think you could reasonably 1 roll alot if you can get the ball within 5-8feet everytime. Sounds like a fun game to play some weekday when the course is slow.

I see alot of the arguments in this thread are similar to the ones in the dress codes thread. I think alot of people confuse some things for others. As for me, some days I'm a golfer, others I'm a guy out playing golf, and others I'm a guy out there playing a game similar to golf on a golf course. When I play by myself I usually count everything and stick to the rules the best that I know them. When playing in groups of people I don't know, I really don't care whether they are cheating or not as long as they are pleasant. To me, it's more about attitude than how they play. I'll play as serious as is aloud without being a nuisance to the group. And then when I play with my one buddy, we have our own agreed upon rules that we use in regards to mulligans and the such. We usually drink and don't take it too seriously when we are out. To me it boils down to the attitude of the people I'm playing with. Regardless of how they are dressed, whether they improve their lies or take a mulligan or two. I don't care about those things. Give me a nice playing partner who is respectful to his group, the golf course, and the groups following and he can do what ever he wants in regards to the rules as it doesn't affect my game. Josh

I understand the concept of the flipping through and closing the face, however I've found for my swing it's the opposite and closer to Bentur123's situation. I've had a horrible slice that's been plagueing me with a regular flex shaft. This past weekend I tried out a new wood with a stiff shaft and nearly everything was going dead straight. The regular shaft feels like a noodle in may hands and feels like it is trailing my hands through even when I try to conciously rotate through. The stiff shaft felt just perfect at contact and gave me a much straighter hit. Could just be my swing or maybe it's something else, but that was my experience. Josh F
