driver & 3 iron shaft questions...
basesloaded190 replied to -BAMA-'s topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
First for the driver, try cutting it down a 1/2 inch. You'd be surprised how much of an effect that will have. You will gain more control as the shaft is longer. Don't expect to lose tons of yards, You won't. I think most of us would love to gain more accuracy if we could sacrifice a few yards About re-shafting the 3 iron. The ferrule doesn't really have a specific purpose other than the fact that most iron heads are now made for a ferrule (Every one except Ping?) I think the club would look goofy with out it. Your going to have to cut it off in order to take the shaft off. Ferrule are extremely cheap so make sure you have another one to replace the one you cut off. -
some wood finish! its not going to make it feel like its brand new but some wood finish will make it look a lot better

oh i couldn't agree more. It is really not worth the time to save them unless you need/want it for what ever reason. Working on golf clubs over the years I have taken thousands of grips off for various reasons. I would much rather cut them off, but sometimes the grip is in perfect shape and no use wasting a good grip!

Syringe with grip solvent. Not the easiest or safest way, but really the best way to save a grip. You can also try putting a plastic tube over the grip and apply air to the butt of the grip. This will lossen the grip from the tape and you should be able to slide it off. Be careful of this way though because if too much air is applied its easy to pop the grip or get a bubble in it, thus making it no long good

Refurbishing Forged Clubs
basesloaded190 replied to TinCupTampa's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
no metal is removed. just the chrome. that part is stripped so we can polish and buff off all the nicks. Its then re-chromed. Sandblasting the faces doesn't do much to the actual groves. It will obviously clean them out entirely but it puts a finish back on the face similar to that of when the clubs were purchased. so long story short, you shouldn't notice much if any difference in club head weight. -

small company i work for refurbishes any kind of iron. We would sand and buff the irons first. send them out to get stripped. finish polishing, then send them back to get re-chromed. Finish with a sandblast of the face and paint fill. -
you can spend some money and send them in to get them re-chromed. in order to do this though, you MUST sand, and polish the clubs to get all the dings out otherwise the chrome will look like junk.

there are many different ways to measure shaft length on a club. The way i do is from the heel of the club up. If you have a yard stick that should do the trick. Just lay the club on the stick and put the heel up to the end. If it is to short there are many options to extend the club as well. If its only a short extension you won't notice much difference, but if its anything over an inch and a half you might start to feel some weight differences.

The NV shaft is going to have a softer tip than the ProLaunch, so i would try that first because that will give you a lower ball flight than most of the Aldila NV line.

Agree with you on the Winns there, also check out the Golf Pride DD2. Im putting those on a set of my clubs here in the near future. You really can't go wrong with anything from Winn, Golf Pride or Lamkin. Grips are more personal preference i think.

proper golf club fitting
basesloaded190 replied to flopdarock's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Being fit really should be a combination of what you said. First you need measurements taken to see how long the club should be, hit some balls on the computer to get some spin and ball and swing speed numbers. Then lastly once you know what will work for best, you should hit those irons or woods to see what looks best to you and what you feel most comfortable with. -
Driver shaft characteristics.
basesloaded190 replied to RichF's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
How is anyone going to know if your going to get the same results. Those are two completly different clubs with different shafts, different weights, etc. For someone to come on here and tell you yes your going to hit the ball the same would be lying because you would have no idea. As far as the shaft goes, i would think that each shaft is made a little differently for each company. They all aren't going to be the same. -
removing/ Refilling Paitfills
basesloaded190 replied to miller72's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
depends on what you are using at solvent. most of the time you don't need to worry about ruining a finish. Just put the paint in the numbers or wherever you are putting it. Don't worry about getting it on other parts of the club because it will come off. Let it sit for 20 mins than take a paper towel with the solvent and wipe away the excess paint. I use just your common hobby paint with a brush and it has always worked perfectly. -
a few swings with the R9
basesloaded190 replied to dmband8985's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
while i do agree that this is an awesome club, i feel as though for the average golfer there is now so much he has to worry about. Before it was just the weights, no its lie and loft. I think the average joe is going to get confused and get mad when he isn't getting the results he wants because he wants the club to correct what ever swing flaw he currently is dealing with -
just purchased a set of used 755's on ebay and restored the heads, put in black gold shafts, and some new grips, and i couldn't be happier. I don't think the 755's are that demanding. They certaintly aren't like blades, but are good enough for lower handicapped golfers. But try both if you can and if you can't, my vote is for the 755s
-
Try different shafts before you go ahead and make a purchase of a new head. Most likely that will do the trick. You just may need a shaft with a different kick point of different weight.

forged irons and dings

You actually think with all his money Tiger is cruising around Florida with a buick? Think again, try something a little more sexy than a Buick -
I've read and heard that the insert in the taylor made putters are nothing special at all. Nothing more than a colorful piece of plastic in the front of the putter to resemble an insert.

Footjoy Reelfit or Nike SP-8?
basesloaded190 replied to ScottyCameron's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
the thing about the reelfit is that they look goofy. If it didn't have the thing on the back to tighten them up it wouldn't be so bad. You have to look good out on the course :) -
I think you should try to hit it yourself versus going off of what people on here are saying. It may not be the best shaft for some people, but it may work out perfectly for you. You will never know until you try it.

Footjoy Reelfit or Nike SP-8?
basesloaded190 replied to ScottyCameron's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
sp-8 because i they have been the most comfortable shoes i have ever gotten. Had them for about two seasons now and they are still in good shape. Changed the spikes a couple of times but other than that, i have no complaints. I will be getting another pair of nike shoes when these are done. -
If you hit the ball too high now it will. If you don't i can't really see you hitting it so much futher that it would be worth spending money on changing the shaft. Taylor made usually has pretty decent stock shafts
-
I actually just put a set of Black Gold stiff in my set. I haven't hit them yet as there is still a lot of snow on the ground, but my swing speed is about 105 or so and i hit my 8 iron about 165-170. I don't know if that gives you any indication, but those shafts are great and cheaper than project X. I was able to get them for $15 a piece. If thats what you go with let me know and i can tell you where i got them!
