  1. I start every round knowing I'll break 90 but it still doesn't happen as much as I would like
  2. 25.5 to 22.6 due in large part to the 86 I shot on the 30th just before the update, still on track to break 20 by the end of the year.
  3. Played two rounds on Monday 97 94, unlike others my driver and hybrids are ok, they don't always go where I expect but generally stay out of trouble. My irons are terrible though, usually fat sometimes thin, rarely straight. par 3 holes are usually a 5 or 6 for me. I play forward men's tees so I only need 150+ irons on the par 3 holes. I think one major problem is upper body and head movement in the backswing. Anyone know any good drills to to keep things steady?
  4. 26.6 to 25.5 I was hoping for a bigger move but I've been fairly consistent lately, it is clearly time to focus on the short game.
  5. Where I play the ladies tees are just that... The Marshall will give you guff for playing from them as a man. Typically the 5800-6200 tees are the forward tees though, and if you really want to play forward of that some courses have senior tees that can be played as a man. Personally I wish more amateurs would just tee it forward, whenever I'm grouped with strangers they usually seem relieved that I want to play forward then they can blame me for being the sissy. I like most of the average golfers out there really should t be hitting 7 iron approach shots when a Pw approach only has a 50% chance of getting on the green.
  6. Switching to stiffer shafts helped me hit my good shots a whole lot better, but my bad shots a whole lot worse so while it was a good change it hasn't improved my scores by much. Switching grips however night and day. My clubs had those thin rough textured grips, after many lessons and video analysis with one coach, I took a lesson with a different coach and she immediately tells me my grips are too small.... Change out to medium tour wrap grips and I immediately stopped hitting shots fat, and lost the slice in my 3 wood. Huge difference in scores.
  7. I think it's also important to remember that even the best golfers in the world 3 putt, and miss easy ones. How many 2ft lip outs did I see just today on TV? and those are the guys leading the tournament. Putting is a whole lot of feel, a good putter goes a long way too, I must have hit 50 different putters before I found the one I could control speed with the best. After you get a feel for speed control its just a "simple" matter of lining it up down the line and hitting it straight. I found that once I was over the ball I had a tendency to see the line more left than it is, so now I line up the club face before I get over it and then just trust it and hit it as pure as I can. I haven't hit more than 36 putts in a round since. Now if I could just get the driver to work....
  8. Happens to me all the time... Especially at the executive course where mostly everyone is alone practicing. Last time I was at the executive I ran into a middle aged woman playing alone a couple holes in and we finished together, played the best round ever, I recommend it to everyone. I didn't want her to show me up.
  9. I played with someone new a couple weeks past in a foursome, stroke play, nothing competitive. Nice guy, but a real stickler for rules and etiquette. Both of which I am fine with. But they guy also cheats like crazy. He will hand wedge his tee shot from a fence line, improve every lie before he hits, pick up every putt within 3 feet, and then freak out if someone doesn't pull the pin for his 40ft putt. I've encountered the rules lawyer and the consummate cheat but never both together. Is this a common thing? Frustrated me more than usual... Oh and then over beers after the round I got to hear all about his 1.7 index.
  10. Well great now I want to start using them...
  11. My local ranges are on course with no nets or fences, and thus collect slices and hooks from the adjoining holes. (And yes the adjoining holes are littered with range balls making it difficult to find your ball if you hit it close) The range balls themselves have a yellow stripe painted on them, lately every bucket I buy has at least 3 decent balls in there, without the yellow stripe. Yesterday I found two ProV1's,a B330 and an E7. I used to just hit them back down the range, but I decided to start just taking them if they are in good shape, pays for the bucket and then some. The pro shop does also find these balls and then sells them in a bucket loose for $3 a piece, so maybe I shouldn't take them after all... it's sort of a moral ambiguity. I'm curious if there are any opinions on this. I suppose the ethical thing to do is pull them out of the bucket and turn them in to the pro shop when I leave.
  12. Quite regularly it will vibrate, the flag icon will get a circle around it, and it will read 170 yards and then a few moments later change to 148 without vibrating again. If I'm the only one this happens to maybe I'll go exchange it. I never trust it until I get two of the same readings from it.
  13. I use the Bushnell Tour v3 without the slope option, and while the vibration feature is neat, it's also a bunch of hooey, it will "Lock" onto a pin that is actually a tree behind the green, It's a solid range finder, but I think a less expensive one would have been just as good.
  14. I'm the only one in my regular group with a range finder, everyone else uses phone GPS apps, which are accurate to my laser range finder by +/- 4 yards usually and give information my range finder usually cant such as yardages to hazards, back of green, etc... I agree that you really need both here, but if you can only get one, maybe a Golf GPS App first, w/ Game Golf. The Game Golf classic has really helped me improve my game.
  15. I play quite a bit, I have 10 rounds between 8/15 and 9/1 and 8 of them were used in the calculation (They were in my 10 lowest rounds). It is also much closer to my actual ability lately, at 32.6 I was routinely shooting 62 to 65 NET
  16. 32.6 to 26.6 best so far, hoping to get below 20 by the end of the year.
  17. An 87 at Adobe Creek this afternoon, my first round ever under 90, I'm on my way!
  18. How is it I can thin a 20 yard up and down a little over the green and then walk over to the other side and not find my ball? Or hit a slice off the fairway watch it bounce off the cart path and then poof it's gone forever. I wanna know who these mystical ball thieves are.
  19. Yah, so like I said in my post yesterday, if I can just keep my ball in play I would probably be in the 80s, and sure enough, I only lost 3 balls today, 2 into lateral hazards and 1 just disappeared? I saw it bounce went to go get it and it was no where to be found... so I took a 2 shot penalty and played a new ball from where I saw it bounce. Well today was an 87! 42/45 that's a new record for me, it's so low in-fact that I had to rethink the whole round to make sure I didn't cheat somewhere. Other than the two stroke penalty mentioned above I should have re-teed, I didn't cheat at all, I even missed a couple gimme putts when rushing and counted them as misses. 38 Putts, 56% GIR, 25% Scramble, 6 Par, 1 Birdie Things are really coming along, I'm pretty sure I'm out of the triple digits for a while now, good luck to those still struggling you'll make it! 20. A 98 today, 48/50 which is surprising because I thought I played pretty well, only 32 putts, 6 pars or better, 20% Scramble. But I guess it doesn't matter when there are 8 +2 or worse scores on the card. (2 +2, 5 +3, 1 +4), 7 strokes of which are lost ball or water hazard penalties... I think I am an 80s low 90s golfer if I can keep the stupid ball in play, but if I didn't lose a ball OB today, I was in the trees with no shot to the green, and I either hit a tree trying to get it there, or lost a stroke punching it back in to the fairway. I think it's time to hit the range and only hit driver for a while.
  21. My biggest hero shots are trying to get through trees, sometimes I pull it off, but most of the time it's just embarrassing. Sliced a drive on monday into some trees, could have laid up back to the fairway, but I figure a 3 wood shot will make it through... bonk... now I'm even worse in the trees, I can still make it out to the green ...rustle, rustle, splash... someday I'll stop trying this.
  22. Shot a 94! 49/45 today, that's my best round and differential ever. I was feeling a bit down as I went out on Monday with my regular group and shot a 108 54/54 that was just terrible, I couldn't control the driver again and I was slicing so far it was not only to the opposite fairway, but past it. Had some good milestones on Monday though, my first 300+ yard drive in the fairway, and an intentional 6 iron hook shot around a tree that actually worked. The front 9 today was OK, I bogeyed the first six, and then lost a ball on 7 and pushed my next shot right of the green for a triple. I also tripled 9, with a bad first drive that landed way fat and duck hooked the ball OB. An 8 on the 9th hole is still actually the best score I've ever had there, usually get a 9, I hate it. I scored a 5 on every hole of the back 9, Par on both 5's, Bogey on all the 4's, and Doubles on both 3's for a 45. The 3's should have been pars, but I had to tee off twice on both as my first shots went in the water. My putting is all of a sudden kinda decent after being really terrible for so long... I'm actually making 5 footers now. After much work since Monday, I've got my driver on a nice little fade instead of the major slice, I tried switching to a draw instead but it's too easy to turn the draw into a big low hook, so I'm pretty happy with a repeatable fade. Game Golf Round: http://www.gamegolf.com/player/Cupcakus/round/551260 This makes 4 of my last 5 rounds < 100 so I think I might be leaving this thread soon, we'll see in a week when the indexes refresh where I am.
  23. I have never played a course that didn't have a local rule that all power line shots are replayed. Check the scorecard for local rules, you'd be surprised what you can get away with. At one of my local course slices into the range net on the first hole are replayed! Otherwise as others have said, it's in the water which if marked with yellow or red stakes is a hazard and standard hazard penalties take effect.

    Two Gloves?

I've been golfing a lot the last few months, at least 5 times a week, and I'm really getting some annoying callouses on my right hand, my glove hand is fine... I'm wondering if there is a downside to wearing a glove on both hands?
  25. My son was up visiting this weekend, which usually means no golf, but I talked him into going to the range and giving it a try. I then "talked" him into playing the front 9 with me. I think he had a good time.
