"That's more right than Rush Limbaugh!" or "That's more left than Hillary Clinton!" After your partner hits a tree.... "TIMBER!!!" or "I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay...."

Another option would have been to ride up and simply ask them if you could play through. There is NEVER any good reason to knowingly and willfully hit in to a group, putting the lives of others in jeopardy. You're lucky that they were old guys. If you had purposefully hit in to my group you would have gotten your ass stomped. As for the slow play problem, here are a few observations: The golf industry wants more folks to take up golf. More golfers means slower play. That's life. Golf takes time. If you don't have at least 4 hours of your day to spare, then you simply don't have time for 18 holes. It seems to me that the folks who complain the most about slow play are the ones who have forgotten that golf was intended to be a fun and leiurely pastime. What's so horrible about spending 4 hours on a beautiful course, enjoying the greatest game ever devised, with good friends?

Easiest Fairway Wood to Hit off Tee Box & Fairway?
wedgewizard replied to golfheaven's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Not just the Cleveland Launchers. The Cleveland Hi-Bore woods are very nice too. They hit well off the tee and off the turf and are very accurate too. Very affordable as well. -
For the price, I think that it's hard to beat the Cleveland Hibore XLS.

If carts were banned from golf it would kill the summer time golfing industry in the southeast. What kind of masocist wants to walk 18 holes in 101 degree heat while toting about 8 liters of water with him?

I see the same thing at my local range. But you must remember that a lot of guys practice their chipping and putting at home. You don't need much space to practice those skills, but you really need a range to practice your full swing.

Add a chipper to your bag. Seriously. After many years of poor chipping (and not much free time to practice chipping) I finally added a chipper to my bag (sacrificed my 3 iron), and it has really improved my game. I bought an inexpensive Tommy Armour Hot-Scot chipper and it works perfectly. Just a putting stroke and the club does the rest.

I find it of interest that many of the same folks here who complain about "slow play" are also the ones who seem dead against folks picking up a "gimme putt", or improving their lie, or anything else that might speed up play but isn't in the rules. I'm glad that the guys that I golf with are not so uptight. Nothing turns a fun day of golfing into a miserable drudgery quicker than some killjoy who wants to treat every game like it's a life-or-death situation.

Let me get this straight, you have never served in the U.S. Army, right? You have served in the Navy, right? So you're giving advice about something which you know nothing about. Jax, Norm3333 doesn't know what he's talking about, don't take his advise. His (very limited) knowledge pertains only to the Navy. I've been in the Army and I know what I'm talking about. Trust me on this, you do NOT want to be an MP. They do a thankless job that nobody respects or appreciates, and most folks just see them as the type of guys who used to get the crap beat out of them in school, and now they have a badge and a gun and think that they're "Billy Badass". Think long and hard about becoming an MP. I think that you would be much happier in the Infantry, Armor, Artillery, or Engineers. Those are the real driving force of the Army, everything else is just "support". There is also a special camaraderie and esprit de corps that the "combat arms" MOS's have that support elements simply don't have. This is my final post in this thread. Good luck to you and may God watch over you.

I think that if you have never heard anything bad about the military police in your 24 years of service, as you stated in your previous post, then you are either oblivious to reality or you're a liar.
-
Okay, I'll concede that MP's are not hated by every single person on the planet. After all, they too have mothers, fathers, wives, kids, etc... But it is a fact that most soldiers despise MP's. And since Jax is thinking of becoming an MP, I thought that it was something that he should know about and consider before signing the contract. The childish "drama" started when a Marine, and then a sailor, gave advice not founded in reality. I just don't want this young man to end up in a job that he's going to hate. And I'm not so sure that he's going like being something that his fellow soldiers dislike and don't respect. Seriously Jax, think very carefully about becoming an MP.

Yeah, I also just love it when people give their opinions about a subject that they are completely clueless about.... Like a naval officer, such as yourself (per your profile), giving advice about how soldiers look upon Army MP's. But hey, I'm just an old soldier, what would I know about the subject.

No, no, no.....you're going the wrong direction. The cups should be 2" in diameter. Any slob can make a putt with a 4.25" cup. . . . . . . . (bigger) sigh.......

I'll stretch some, sip my beer, maybe clean my clubs, sip my beer, apply some more sunscreen, sip my beer, check out who's playing well on other holes (and who's not), sip my beer....

So long as everyone in the group is playing by the same rules, I don't see any harm if those rules deviate from the official USGA rules. Besides, some of "the rules" are just bad. For example, a specific glove being banned by the USGA (the Bionic Glove).

What branch of the military are you a member of, and what's your MOS?

my bag.. did I overpay?

Everybody overpays sometime. Just take heart in the fact that you're stimulating the economy! -
Which driver to go with gotta stay under 200
wedgewizard replied to ScottyWrrn's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I can't recommend the Cleveland Hibore enough! It's a fantastic driver. Awesome distance and laser straight on good hits, and acceptable distance and still fairly straight on off hits.....very forgiving of human error. -
Why do so many people play a 60* wedge??
wedgewizard replied to glbrum's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I use my 60 quite often within 70 yards. My swing with the 60 is much more consistent than my "short-stroked" pitching wedge or sand wedge swing. And it really sticks the landing and stops on a dime! I removed my 3 wood, which I very seldom used, to make room for it. -
Tommy Armour R-91 Forged Wedges - Anyone have opinion?
wedgewizard replied to Jon K's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Yep, I have a TA R91 52* in my bag and I have been very pleased with it's performance. I think I paid about $25 bucks or so at Dick's or the Sports Authority....can't recall. -
That might be how you see it, but trust me on this, you're very much in the minority.
-
How long were you on the course?
-
No problem, that's when it's time to drink a nice cold beverage and apply more sunscreen.
-
I don't think that you'll see a difference in your score whether you walk or ride. But walking in 90+ degree heat on a hilly course, and having to carry your water bottles in addition to your golf gear, will get old real fast! The pros aren't allowed to ride during tournaments, so whoever made the rules must think that it offers some advantage.
