Driving accuracy was his reason.

Check this please before giving out information. Hogan maintained the same ball position relative to his left heel but adjusted his right foot. Hogan and Nicklaus were almost identical.

Stack and tilt is on its way out. I would bet that it's out within the next year to two years especially now that Badds dropped it.

reverse pivot and weight distribution,,,

The column I wrote in Swing Check for Luis Gonzalez applies to the driver as well. Take a look at the section called Power Pivot and let me know if you have any other questions. http://thesandtrap.com/swing_check/l...swing_analysis -
I know this sounds nuts but I am a huge fan of the idea to mike the caddies but I hope it doesn't happen. Pros: I would much rather hear Steve and Tiger discussing the shot than Johnny Miller or any of the other commentators. I think that golfers could learn a lot about what really goes through the head of a pro before they hit a shot. Cons: The discussions that a caddie has with their player can be a lot different than people might imagine. It's a lot like the relationship between a catcher and a pitcher. You do not always agree and sometimes those disagreements can be heated. It doesn't mean that you hate them or are going to fire them; you both believe you know what will work best. I would be afraid that every single time Steve and Tiger disagreed or Phil and Bones it would become tabloid fadder. That's my take.

I think it's too early to tell. I just started using it so I'll tell you when I know more.

Just to be clear about why I call him an underachiever. Charlie used to be one of the longest and most accurate drivers of the golf ball I have ever seen. His irons were the same. Honestly, there wasn't a lot of question in our minds that he was going to be a rival for Tiger. Check his college record - especially his scoring records - and you'll see just how scary of a player he was to go up against.

This is somewhat of a personal topic for me but I recently read a Sports Illustrated article that got me a little fumed. In the article it described Howell III as an underachiever - which considering his college record there is little doubt - but it also talked about how Charlie has worked with Leadbetter since he was 12 and has now recently moved on to working with a guy down at Sea Island, GA. This is personal to me because I am finally going to call BS on this. Charlie has worked with Leadbetter for years but has also worked with a different teacher in Atlanta - whom I worked with - since Charlie started playing golf. Every single time that Charlie went to Leadbetter his swing would fall apart. Then he would come back to Atlanta and would have to start all over again. I have kept quite for a long time but I am pretty sick of Leadbetter getting any success for Charlie's swing. If anything, Leadbetter should get credit for making him 143rd in the World. But that's just me. Oh, one more thing. If you think I am somehow making this up, probably 30 or 40 videos to prove it. I like Charlie - I really do - but I wish he would give credit to everyone who teaches him and not just the guy with the name.

Success and failure are both contagious for me. It took me years to break par while playing with my dad. On the other hand, one of the craziest days I can ever remember on the course was during a practice round where our group's scores were 64, 64, and 61. It doesn't mean I have to play to the level of my group but it is definitely a problem when I am gambling.

I know that there has been some discussion about a golf fitness thread. I personally am one of the people that thought that it might be a little dangerous to advise a one size fits all workout routine for golfers because I believe all workout routines should be designed for that person in particular. But I'm no expert mind you; I just have an experience getting injured when my own strength and conditioning coach was trying to bulk up the team. With that said, I am trying to get back into playing shape and have decided to start a running program with my workout routine. It's probably not the hardest running program in the world but considering I have some left overs of my asthma and I haven't run since 2001 I thoroughly got my butt kicked this morning. The program is called "Running Trainer 5K" by AppLabs for the iPhone. It's meant to build me up to a 30 minute run. Anyhow, how many other people are doing some sort of running program and what has your experience been?

Ya, I did it with a golf coach and our schools trainer. It was just not right for me. Like I said before, I am a fan of physical fitness. I am going through rehab right now so I would be the first one to say that. I just would be hesitant to have someone recommending an exercise meant to be for all rather than an individual. -
Glad to hear it. Keep it up.

I didn't realize there was a debate about wrists but just for fun I'll chime in. Your wrist strength is pretty darn important when you are hitting the ball out of thick rough. Your ball speed is determined by when you start to make impact but also when the ball releases from the club. All that means to me is that you have to have something behind the ball that is keeping the clubhead going. I have heard the wrists argument before but I tend to leave my wrists out of it. That "whipping" action can generate a little bit more but I will always choose torque over wrists. Oh, and before I hurt my back I was 145-155 pounds with swing speed average over 115 and could go up to 125 if I really, really needed to. My wrists were tiny so if it was my wrists generating the speed I would be shocked.

Take a look at #6 on Marshwood at Highland Oaks. I think you will laugh. When I played it was Highlands to Marshwood. Highland Oaks

As much as I would hate to say this as someone who loves his Mizuno irons I would stay with your Callaways for now. It is just my opinion but I don't think you really get the benefit of Mizuno Forged irons until you start getting down to mid to low 80s or better. Again, just me though. I am a hypocrite on this point in that I started playing Mizuno MP14s.
-
Personally, I put 60-80%. I like it when courses don't just say what tees you should play but do not let you play a tee that is too far back if your handicap isn't low enough. Personal favorite for that is Medinah #2

Just plain funny. We could just say run... a lot to all golfers. That's what a lot of college golf coaches tell the bigger kids on the teams. -
Being laid off at the top is not a problem ... necessarily. Take a look at Woods, Duval, Garcia, McIlroy, etc. and you'll see that the modern swing is laid off at the top. Check your camera angle and if you are still pointed way left of the target then we can talk. I would put a frame online or even a full swing so people can see just how much you are talking about.

How important is a club's look at address to you?

If the face looks closed it gets into my head too much. Can't buy it. -
Pebble Beach with a 35 mph wind. I played out of my mind well and shot 75. Overall, hardest course was Highland Oaks the week before the Buy.com Tour Championship a number of years ago. Beast.

I would say yes but hesitantly. I have been through a variety of fitness programs and one actually caused my back injury. Just fair warning. -
Putter. Simple math. 30 strokes per round. What other club do you do that with?
-
Not a big fan of roll. I put down 16-20 yards but if I am playing a difficult course I would rather get more fly less roll so I don't roll into the rough.

Lifting up your Right Foot Before Impact
TMO replied to JetFan1983's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The width of the stance does affect when the right foot comes up. During your down swing your body should be "posting up" on your left leg so with that weight shift you are going to pull towards the target. With a narrow stance, the right foot won't come up but the wider you get the more you should notice your right foot come up. But seriously, there is just too much stress being put on the right foot right now. The right foot is a natural move. I would be much more concerned about the left leg or the right knee than the right foot. Like I said earlier, as long as your right knee is driving towards the target through impact I would not be concerned about whether the right foot is off the ground. -
