Just got mine today. Nice size.... colorful... but it would really nice if they put a grommet in the center with a clip, so that it could be attached on my bag. A nice feature would have been nice to have a roughed up area at one end to clean clubs. There is only one option to carrying it..... they put a little card in the bag with three golfers and three caddies. Only the caddies are carrying the towels, so I guess these are more for the tour players when they use caddies (shrug). So, I am heading out tomorrow morning for a round and we'll see how it goes. It has been really wet and sloppy out here.... so this towel is going to get a real workout. No caddies for me... I walk and carry my clubs, so hope this towel behaves itself. But... its a towel, eh. I guess I was thinking that it may have a few options or extras, considering the list price.

"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge (March 2016)
Dave325 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I received my Evolvr analysis back yesterday and this was a really good one.... I need to focus on the hips moving forward in the downswing (I was apparently stalling out this movement, which I also noticed yesterday in my post). Coach gave me a good swing thought here which I love and that is, to try to swing with the belly button (yes, it sounds funny, but hey... it works for me). Anyway, I plan to focus on never swinging again for the next month with anything but this single thought (less arms). Just did a bunch of swing vids and have been avidly working on it. It's not perfect yet, but its coming along. Put in some good time today in the garage (its raining here) working with the 6-iron. Please.... if you see anything I am doing incorrectly, please let me know.... the focus here is getting that hip turn and weight forward..... Also, continuing my backswing and downswing drills, with some pitching practice in the basement. -
Changed something big on my swing here. Not swinging with the arms, but using the hips and weight forward. More work on this one to do, but feeling good about it at this point. A bit more consistent too when I do it right. The specific feel I am using now is to try to swing with my belly button (yes, sounds strange.... but works for me).

My ex-home courses closing, changing - proofs that golf is in decline

Ah, yes. Use to play Eagles Nest when my mom lived close by. It is less busy. Legendary Run is very nice. You should try Stonelick Hills.... A very challenging top notch course, where they play a lot of tournaments. -

Yes! Nice course and a bit challenging. I live real close to it, though I am a member at a course in Bethel. I would have liked to join Elks Run, but the 2k/yr fee made it out of reach in the budget. -
"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge (March 2016)
Dave325 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Working on 7 iron backswing and downswing drills. Took some video and reviewed them trying get the drill work into my regular swing, I noticed that I wasn't getting my hips starting forward soon enough starting the downswing. Worked on this at 1/2 speed and took some more videos. Getting a bit better but needs more work. Did a little work on the driver with the same focus. Ended practice today with some pitching practice with the 60 degree wedge. -
Agreed! I have improved a lot with my long putts since Erik taught me some of key principles to good putting. Two of them were using the backstroke and follow through as the same distance on either side of the ball and use a quicker stroke at always the same speed. I may not explaining this right, but Erik can clarify. But don't want to get off topic. Oh wait, we are discussing putts here.

Thanks. I'm still trying get a handle on all the various rules.
-
Ah! I didn't realize you could get a drop for the stance issue. Thanks
-
Thanks everyone for all the great response. That helps and answers my question. Thanks.

Can someone explain the free drop that Haas received on the tee shot of the first playoff hole? He wasn't on the cart path and clearly off the fairway.

I have just started to tracking my playing stats, like fairways hit, GIR, nGIR and putts, etc. On this last one.... Putts... I was wondering about when you are off the fringe and decide to use your putter. Officially, do you consider this a putt, or a chip with just the use of a putter?

Pushing vs pulling on downswing
Dave325 replied to onthehunt526's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Hi Shane - I am not the expert, but from what I understand it is not neither of these pieces of the hand, though thinking of these my help your feel. I think of the downswing as more Key #2 and using the core and hips to initiate and follow through to finish. Of course, this is something I am continually working on. For me, it seems that when I put my focus on anything other than this weight forward hip thrust on the downswing... My shot gets pretty erratic. My specific feel now is to end with weight on the outside of the left foot to ensure the hip thrust and weight forward on downswing. Hope this helps. -
"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge (March 2016)
Dave325 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Worked in the backyard today with the driver and 6 iron. Went through backswing and downswing drills. Focused on head stray and weight forward. I added a new feel of ending with weight on the outside of left foot to make sure I was continuing the hip thrust forward. Made a slight adjustment in my stance by narrowing it a scooch. This seemed to help with the head centered on the backswing (soft chest... Then this helped to keep the hips moving forward, where a wide stance seemed to inhibit hip turn. With this change, had to stand back from the ball a tad. More work to come tomorrow. -
"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge (March 2016)
Dave325 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Worked on more backswing and downswing drills in the garage. Then, went to the backyard and worked on the tempo full swing with the 7 iron and driver trying to incorporate the drill technique with a smooth tempo and pause at A4. Better ball striking today. Hoping to get to the range this weekend, between the expected rain coming in. -
Can get there in one, two or three but can't score well
Dave325 replied to cooke119's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Ok, but if I really want to improve and get better.... where does chipping have its place in the game? Just looking for some clarification. I want to do this the right way, with no shortcuts. I mean, off the fringe... I put if I can.... if not, then chip it. I'll pitch at further out. Should this approach be different? -
Thanks for the input, Erik. I'll work on those points. I appreciate it.

"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge (March 2016)
Dave325 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Rainy day today, so spent about 3 hours or so working on drills in the garage. Focused on head position and continuing the weight forward through to final position. Added a new feel for this by making the weight on the outside of the left foot. Worked through this with various irons and hybrids. Spent some time working on pitches in the basement and garage. I am happy with how thee pitch is going. Will plan on checking my swing with some real balls (not practice balls). Followed up with a little putting practice working on a quicker stroke. Feel good with the putting now. -
Golf In The Elements: Advice, Tips and Tricks
Dave325 replied to Golfingdad's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Ah yes, we are well acquainted with playing in not so perfect weather in Ohio. For rain, I usually leave the clubs covered with the snap-on cover. It has a zipper and I take out a club when I need it and zip it back up. When it is a bit raining here, we can get a fair amount of wind to go with it in the Ohio Valley, so umbrellas are a challenge. I personally don't like the picking up and laying down and sometimes chasing it across the fairway (I don't have caddies), so I prefer to wear loose fitting rain gear that has a hood. I keep a towel inside my bag to keep it as dry as possible, but doesn't last long. In the colder weather, I carry a lithium powered hand warmer to keep the fingers warm between shots. The great thing I like in playing in this weather is that the population goes way down and no worries about waiting on the tee box, that's for sure. -
Downswing drills in 2 swings: First swing with weight preset forward. The second swing with normal backswing and a double pump at A4 before hitting the ball. With both swings, focusing on weight forward and thrust forward, while club shaft extends straight out.

"5 Minutes Daily" Practice Challenge (March 2016)
Dave325 replied to iacas's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
Did about 3.5 hours of practice today, going through my various drills with different irons and hybrids, both backswing and downswing drills. I noticed I started sliding back a bit on my backswing and made that correction after taking some videos. Changed up practice with focusing on pitching, chipping and my driver swing (still issues here). Worked this evening in the garage with game situation changing four clubs - hybrid, 5-iron, A wedge and 60 degree pitch shot. Focused on my weight shift forward with hybrids and iron. Focus on hip turn and letting club fall with wedge. It's coming a bit better every day. Videoed my drills and made a submission to Evolvr. Rain all day tomorrow, so will resort to using the garage tomorrow for practice. -
Hypothetically, if you were a High Handicapper and wanted to create a practice regimen to get to scratch.... What would that plan look like for your weekly practice schedule?

Irons with steel shafts or graphite
Dave325 replied to Reddevil99's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
welcome to the site! I'm no expert on equipment design, so I go by the feel. I went from a set of steel shafted Pings last year to a set of Taylor Made graphite shafts and really love them. In fact, I picked up a steel shafted 5-iron of the same make/model and don't notice to much difference other than my steel shafted club is a bit stiffer. My graphite shafts are the flex type, but you can get them in different types too. Hope this helps. I would suggest trying them out if you can. -

Working today for a few hours on the driver and 7 iron in the backyard. Really nice weather today. Focus on backswing and downswing drills with the iron. Focused on driver setup, relaxed wist and pause at A4. Also, made a slight adjustment in my setup... Moved an inch away from the ball with both clubs. Worked in the basement on pitching and chipping stroke, letting the club fall for the pitch and starting the hip turn slightly early. Did a little target practice with the pitches and hit 10 in a row with the short pitch.
