  1. Prior to the MP-57's, I played RAC Lt2's. IMO, these are probably the most well rounded iron ever made by Taylormade, and maybe one of the best anyone has made, ever. They have the workability/control of the R7TP with a little bit more forgiveness, and they have a more solid feel. No flashy graphics, just a plain, simple, point and shoot player's cavityback iron. They were reviewed by the staff here at Sandtrap, here's the link: http://thesandtrap.com/equipment/clu...t_irons_review I bought new irons, sure... But I absolutely could not part with my RAC Lt2's, they will never be sold and are always in contention to get put back in the bag.
  2. Haven't heard much about the Golds, but there's a lot of people raving about the Reds... Same technology, so I'd say you'd be alright with them. It's a big step up from the CMM garbage they were selling last year.
  3. I just put my 588 gunmetals back in the bag. I had bought Vokey SM's to replace them, and while they do an incredible job of stopping the ball, from anywhere, they just never felt right to me. On fullswing shots, my 588's stop dead, maybe come back a few feet, the SM's have at times sucked right off the front green. Does it happen all the time? No, but that's another issue I have is that my results with those wedges aren't as consistent. The Cleveland's also feel heavier in the clubhead to me, which I like in a wedge. IMO, you either like the look of the Cleveland, or the look of the Vokey. All others wedges are in some way similar to these two. I personally think the Callaway is an excellent wedge and I wish they made more lofts in LH, designed by Roger Cleveland so I bet you know why I like them. I think the biggest one you've missed in your serach though is Mizuno. They are incredible wedges, forged instead of cast, and come in two versions, the MPT (teardrop shape) and MPR (round). The MPR series also comes with a sole grind that you'd have to pay extra for on most other wedges.
  4. I don't think any of the clubs you've listed would give you a lower ball flight than the CG2. The CG2 is more of a players cavity than everything listed here, other than the MP-60, which should be very similar. 775 is a GI iron, the 506 is probably in between, and the CG Red is really just the replacement model for what you have. You should be able to control trajectory fairly well with what you have now. If anything, as mentioned earlier, try a different shaft? Or you could go to a blade, like the MP-32, MP-67, or 695MB.
  5. The original poster asked what was the best Ping Iron ever made, not the best iron period. I can think of several iron sets that are better than the Ping Eye 2, just not too many Ping sets that are better...
  6. Gonna go the other way here... Hate it. Inconsistent, low trajectory, impossible for me to hold a green with it, if I'm even remotely close to hitting it. Funny though, because I don't have an issue with a 4 iron, as a matter of fact, i hit one of the best shots of the season this lst weekend with it. My 3i hybrid is awesome though, nice & high, and easy to swing. Although I would never consider telling someone what they should or shouldn't have in bag.
  7. Just got this information from the slighter forum members area, if you've ever considered a Slighter, I can't imagine a better way to give one a try... email Mitch at mitch@slightergolf.com if you're interested.
  8. I guess I'm confused, I hit at LEAST 70 balls with the demo while in the test-driving phase and I didn't once get the feeling it was a rock, and I know I missed a few. Maybe my misses are getting better? I mean iron play really hasn't ever been an issue for me Maybe this is a mental thing for you? Because the MX19 isn't even a forged golf club. I guess that's why so many companies can be successful making the same thing, everyone is looking for a different feel.
  9. I got them in Dynamic Gold S300. I hit them in DG and Rifles, love the DG and hated the Rifles. They aren't here yet though, guys at the shop said 10 days as of yesterday.
  10. Agreed completely. I thought they looked great from pictures, but I struggled to find a demo to hit LH. I wasn't too worried about it seeing as I love(d) my current irons, Taylormade RAC Lt2's. I found a demo club to swing at a local retailer that's always been good about LH stuff, and it was incredible. Maybe it's because I've never played forged, the MP60 was too much and I the MX series just never appealed to me from a looks perspective, but WOW. I got fitted the next day and they are on the way!
  11. Thanks everyone for the responses... I've checked my grip, it's pretty neutral, almost weak (and yes, I'm LH, but I'm used to doing the automatic translation when it comes to anything golf related ). As for my regular (or preferred) ball flight, it's a 5 yard draw. I've never been very successful trying to fade the ball, typically it will just be a push. It seems like it is (or was) a couple of things, but tempo really is driving it. If I'm too quick off the ball, I go way inside on my take-away. By slowing it down, everything comes away in one piece. At the top, I am (or again, was) really racing back down to the ball, and was coming from the severe inside of my plane. By slowing everything down, I've been able to keep everything out on plane (in my basement anyway). I was talking to a pro about this yesterday, he was the one who mentioned counting. I couldn't do it at that point, but I worked on it last night, and I've had some success. A medium paced 7 count with a long 4, creates a delay at the top and allows me to bring everything else back to the ball in one piece. I don't think it's an actual pause in my swing, but it's close. And I feel like I'm significantly slower all the way around. Thanks again everyone!
  12. Agreed completely. Nothing since has ever come close. There are tons of people out there that will never play anything else. If the start to look a little rough, they just send em back to the WRX department and have them tumbled and new paintfill. Personally, I think all Ping irons look like 60's muscle cars covered in Bondo, but man do they have a following, and that one more than any other.
  13. That seems to be consensus of people who roll a putter from one of the smaller guys. The quality control with a custom putter from Slighter, Byron, and C&L; is outstanding. The other nice thing is that you get exactly what you want: weight, finish, stamps, aligment aids, etc. I can't wait for my new Slighter Tacoma to get here, I've not even considered another Cameron since I realized what's on the other side. $330.00 is a steal for a Byron, I'd jump all over it if I were you.
  14. So I spent a lovely, sunny, Saturday afternoon with a SandTrap.com staff member this past weekend playing the Meadows at Mystic Lake. A new course here in Minneapolis that claims to be THE golf destination in the Midwest. Well, they'd be 20% correct if they figured out that cutting the fairway to the point of it being bald, and not cutting the rough at all (serious, it was over 2 feet tall) is bad greenskeeping, but that's another story. So I stand on the first tee, make a reasonable swing with my driver and hit the fairway, 120 yards to the green (drive distance was 269 yards). Miss the green, which is sad in itself, and I end up with bogey. Postive thought is that I think i'm going to be OK from the teebox today right? Wrong! I shot the worst round of the season, throwing up a freakin 56 on the front. I started missing, snap hooks rest of the day. I only have this issue with my driver and 3w, iron play was just fine. I've gotten to the point where I'm hitting nothing but draws that turn into hooks, and I can't seem to make it stop. I'd say most of it is tempo, I've been told that my entire backswing and transition have gotten fast, but I can't feel it. I've been told to count on the way back, I tried but can't do that, it feels too mechanical. Does anyone have a suggestion? Do people actually pause at the top or is that just a swing thought? Does anyone have any suggestions other than moving the weights in my fancy-pants driver?
  15. I just ordered one a couple weeks ago. Won't be done for a little while but it doen't matter, the season is almost over here anyway and it's worth the wait regardless. But you're right, Slighter putters are in a completely different league. The only other company putting out product that nice is Byron. Scotty Cameron builds good putters for retailers to sell off the rack. Tom Slighter creates great putters for individuals. I'm conflicted, LoL... I feel like it's a shame that more people don't go the route of a smaller guy, who gives you the treatment Scotty reserves for touring pros. But on the other side, I'm glad the smaller guys are staying small because they provide a service that is heads and shoulders above the rest. I can see me buying several putters from Slighter Golf, each one is a work of art.
  16. You have a Burner, doesn't that have plenty of lines already?
  17. In my last driver fitting, my swing speed was averaging 105 mph with a ball speed in the low 150’s. Spin rates varied as we were going through different club heads & shafts. I hit most of my balls in the high 260’s, good number of them into the 280 range, and maybe 3 bombs out towards 300. Excuse me? Who exactly do you think are you to call someone out on their handicap when you don’t have enough guts to post your own? And why would you insult someone based on handicap anyway? Last I checked, Golf was a game that everyone can enjoy regardless of ability level. What a childish and immature comment… Loser
  18. http://www.edinburghusa.org/ Sadly, it, along with all the other courses 'round these parts will be closing way too soon for the season. 2 months from now I will be forced into the heated confines of the golf dome :(
  19. Lets see... Son: Plastic #1: Handle broke off Plastic #2: Same result, fixed with duct tape US Kids Dad: HiBore Burner TP 907D2 R7 Superquad I've got him by one so far...
  20. Just kidding obviously, he's only 18 months old Check him out though, he can carry that wiffle ball over the driveway! Kids are cool...
  21. Saw them yesterday, they will be the next set of irons to make their way into my bag, easily, nothing comes close. It's a very similar look to the MP60, little more offset, bigger cavity, overall size difference is minor at best. It is the perfect iron for my game, less GI than the MX25, more forgiving than the MP60. They're just... Well, perfect (other than the fact that they were right-handed at the store)
  22. been wearing them for over a year now, have they dropped 5 strokes off my game? Nope, but I have...
  23. This is more than likely due to the fact that iron lofts have gotten stronger since you purchased your Ping Eye 2's, not really related to the McGregor iron being any better. To the contrary, from what I've heard from others, the Eye2 is a fantastic iron, even by today's standard. If I liked Ping and owned them, I probably would have sent them to Ping's WRX department, had them tumbled and have the paintfill redone, and continued to play them. As for iron technology as a whole? I think it's progressed, but at a snails pace in comparision to everything else in the game, IMO marketing and consumer buying tendencies have a lot to do with this. Most people (sadly, myself excluded) find irons that are comfortable, and stick with them for 5 years minimum, while we could potentially buy a new driver every year, or at least every other year. The manufacturers have nothing pushing them to drive iron R&D; at the same pace as Drivers and Putters...
  24. HX Tour or Taylormade TP Black... Both are long and straight off the driver, very stable in the wind. HX Tour is nice and soft off the irons and wedges, the Black is more like a ProV1x. both putt nice. I love the HX Tour personally, only ball that seems to blend all the great things about tour balls. Low spin off the big stick, sucks back with wedges, and putts like a dream. Only problem is it looks like you hit it with a cheese grater after 6 holes. Still flies fine, just looks ugly.
  25. I'm sad... Another driver bites the dust. Burner TP gets the boot in favor of the 907D2
