What distance do you hit your clubs (irons and woods)
johnL7 replied to Danattherock's topic in Golf Talk
Oh I think you're confused, I don't think that the kid you're talking about is BS, and I can accept the fact that he is better than me because he is on the European Tour. What I think is absolutely hilarious about your original post is that you are boasting about what a great player you are. Let me tell you one thing, if you are as good as you are saying, you wouldn't be on this forum. You would be out on the PGA Tour making millions of dollars instead of trying to convince a bunch of people on a forum that you are an amazing player which you probably aren't. I really can't stand people like you who are full of themselves and act like they are the greatest player to walk the earth. :) -

Driver - 285-290 3 wood - 265 Hybrid - 235 4 iron - 215 5 iron - 200 6 iron - 185 7 iron - 170 8 iron - 160 9 iron - 150 PW - 135 GW - 120 SW - 110 LW - 95 -
One of my friends has this club, it's great it has great feel when you really stripe it. It might not be as long as some of the other 3 woods on the market, but it really makes up for it in feel.

For me, the driver isn't about bombing it 320+ every hole and getting myself into bad spots on the course. What I try to do with my driver is swing 80% and let the club do the work. This way, I'm hitting around 70% of fairways and I am still hitting it around 270-280 which is plenty of distance. Basically the only problem with being short on distance is the long par 4's in that case you are mostly going to have to rely on your short game to get you up and down to scramble for your par. Par 5's aren't the big trouble because you can lay up to a comfortable wedge distance and hit it onto the green with your 3rd shot.

Thats great! It's especially great to play it now because the open is there in about 2 months and they should be getting it in shape for the tournament.

Played pretty well today and shot a 74 today.... 37 on front (Par 35) 36 on back (Par 36) 10/14 Fairways 9/18 greens 29 putts 2/3 sand saves

If you're looking for a good putter that is also pretty cheap, I would look into buying the Maxfli crossbax blade putter. I have been using it for a while and I love it. Even if you don't like a blade style putter I would definitely recommend looking at the other styles of putter maxfli is making, they all have a great feel to them.

This shouldn't be allowed, I think that these guys who are playing at such a high level should have to line up the putts themselves.

Tournament today- do I have it in me?
johnL7 replied to right handed phil mickelson's topic in Golf Talk
I think it is definitely a possibility, but if you don't pull it off don't be too disappointed about it. All you have to do is keep the ball in play off the tee, hit 70% of greens, and take advantage of the par 5's. If you do these things, and stay focused after you hit a bad shot, then you can definitely shoot in the 60's. -
Got a wide variety of golf Balls right now
johnL7 replied to clonewars222's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I would go with the gamer because it is a 3 piece that is much cheaper than any nike or titleist balls. -
I agree completely. Perfect practice makes perfect

The same thing happened to me last year during my high school season, I had back to back rounds of 44 and 45. What I did was spend a lot of time on my short game after those two rounds. My thinking was if I can't hit full shots good, then I better get my short game sharp. My dad also got me to understand that golf is a streaky game and you are not always going to play your normal, and solid game everytime you go to the course. There are going to be some days when you are just not yourself out on the course, you just have to grind through those rounds and realize that a slump can not last forever.

The grooves on your irons have to be so worn out after 10 years of use! I would definitely recommend going to a demo day and trying out a bunch of different clubs.

Should I give hybrids another try?
johnL7 replied to Sherlockian's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think you should definitely give them another try. If you are struggling with your 3 wood and 5 wood you should try hybrids with the same lofts as those woods so you still have the same distance but with easier to hit clubs. -
Today on the 15th hole of my round, I hit my drive into a patch of fescue/long wild grass. I had 105 to the pin and i took a sand wedge and swung as hard as I could, the ball came out perfectly, landed about 10 yards short of the pin and rolled up to about 3 feet. Tapped it in for bird.

Give the Taylormade Burner a try, it's only $129 at golf galaxy. And if you don't like the burner, you should try out the mizuno f-60.

g10's are for players who are looking for a good amount of forgiveness and they have a thick top line. The i10's are for players looking to work the ball and want a more traditional look at address.

Recommendations on a new 56* wedge
johnL7 replied to Dr_Fu_Manchu's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I have been playing a Vokey spin milled 56* and it is one of the best I have ever played. -
He owns on the Japan tours and probably feels more comfortable over there than when he plays on the pga tour.

South Africans, they have a bunch of good players like Tim Clark, Rory Sabatini, Trevor Immelman, and Ernie Els.

when to "cock your wrists" in your swing?
johnL7 replied to muggs's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
The way I have always cocked my wrists is that I cock them immediately after my takeaway. Once the shaft is parallel to the ground in my takeaway, my club head should, at the same time, be perpendicular to the ground. This is an indicator for me that my club head is completely square after the beginning of my takeaway. -
My goals for this season are: Qualify for the club championship (first year i am allowed to I'm only 15) Complete a 18 hole round at even par or better Work on my putting Improve my focus on the course Improve my decision making. I need to work on knowing when to go for the home run shot or when to play it safe Participate in some AJGA events throughout the summer

It seems like the whole thing is too good to be true with all the testimonials and whatnot. And like zac said above, this forum can provide the same advice and more.
