You can start with a lighter gauge set of strings. I typically use 10's (light gauge) on my LP, as they're pretty easy on the fingers, especially when you start getting into bends. 9's are way too light for my guitar and introduce a lot of fret buzz. Strings are cheap, so experiment. Yes, your fingertips will feel it for a bit, no matter what gauge you start with, but I found 11's to be extra hard on the ole' digits.... (10's refer to the size of the high "e" string, as in 0.010 gauge, 9's would be 0.009, etc...) A good fingering (snort) exercise to help develop your fret hand is to touch your thumb to your index finger, then your ring finger, then your middle finger, and then your pinky. Repeat this over and over, randomly changing the pattern. It'll help build up some hand strength and dexterity, so you won't develop a habit of trying to strangle the neck while trying to fret your chords, which will choke up your chord shifts.

Rocksmith 2014 is pretty fun, especially if you want to learn to play songs as you progress. Marty Schwartz' youtube lessons/pointers are really easy to understand as well.

Love the Cardinal red! Here's my 2015 Epi Les Paul Standard, which I modded by upgrading the electronics. I replaced the tone pots with push/pulls so I could split the seymour duncan pearly gates neck and distortion bridge humbuckers. Huge improvement over the alnico classics that came with her.

If your natural swing dictates the need for a stiff flex shaft, then that should be your starting point. Two wrongs don't make a right. As pointed out, the flex won't fix a slice, as the flex isn't the cause of the slice. A slice is caused by the club face being open to the swing path, not the flex of the shaft. Don't confuse my comment about shot dispersion with a slice.

In theory, a stiffer shaft should help with shot dispersion, but at a cost of distance if you don't carry the "recommended" swing speed for the flex. Ideally, you'd want to use the softest flex you can get away with.

If you feel like you should be going after it (trying to knock the cover off the ball) all of the time, I'd stick with the stiff. if you want to practise a more controlled swing, get the reg flex. I have both stiff and x-stiff for both of my drivers, but tend to use the stiff more these days, as I try to not have such an abrupt transition from backswing to downswing. I actually tell myself "Nice and smooth" on the takeaway with the softer flex and "Kill it" when I have the x-stiff in there (yes, silly, I know). That's the only reason I buy adjustable drivers, just so I can try out different shafts without having to replace the entire club. Seeing as the Cobra you're looking at doesn't have the option of swapping shafts, you may need to test it out some more before making a decision.

The fitter pointed out that I have a bit of a late release, so maybe that is contributing to the lower launch angle. Maybe that also contributes to the lower spin numbers I was getting? The Ping G and the TM M2 were even worse, both in the 13 degree launch range. I'm not overly worried about the launch angle, so long as the descent angle is where it should be. I was swinging fairly easy, as these were regular flex shafts (I'm trying to slow my iron swing down for more control). He recommended a ProjectX 5.5 at +.5" and a medium size grip with an extra wrap. Maybe these will help a bit as well.

Hey all, long time, no post...... I just went through an iron fitting a few weeks ago, and was curious about ideal spin rates and launch numbers. I tried a few different sets from Cally, Ping and TM and ended up getting recommended into the Apex line, the CF16 4&5, and the Pro16 6 to AW. It was a swinglabs fitting. My average numbers for the 6 iron were 4144rpm spin rate and 17.9 degrees launch angle with a 45.6 degree descent angle and a smash factor of 1.45. Averaged 182.5 carry with an 82.5mph swing speed. Do these numbers jive? This was my first time getting fit for any sort of club (not to mention my first set of brand new irons), and am curious before I go back to get fit for exact specs for each club.

I was going through one set of irons per year up until I bought my current 695mb's. I started with super game improvement irons with offbrand clones, then big berthas. I worked my way into titleist cavity backs and eventually the blades. I can't forsee me changing these out for quite some time. I may try others, but I'll be keeping these ones.

I like your style! My Avalanche made it six months, ha ha (after saying it was a keeper). Was fun teaching my 14 year old daughter to do doughnuts with it though!!! That thing was a beast after modding it up a bit. Here's the "replacement" My daughter won't be driving this one, lol. We bought her a cheap little Nissan Sentra (which also happened to be the same thing I started with)!

Yep, this turned out to be true. Just got off the phone with them, and went through my scoring record. Any scores where I could have potentially had a triple marked weren't even factored in, so yes, I was worried about nothing, ha ha. I just wanted it to be as accurate as possible, being that's it's my official factor. One good thing about all of it, I found out GC has a scoring app, so no more piling up scorecards and entering totals.

Screwed up royally this year.... Last year, I was using a golf app to track my index. This year, I decided to renew my Golf Canada subscription, to keep it official. The issue I have is that the app uses the gross scores, and GC uses ESC scores. What a mess I have now, as I've been entering my gross scores into the GC site instead of the adjusted scores, 19 rounds so far. Jeesh!!! At least they are going to help me straighten it out, and get my index to where it's supposed to be. On a brighter note, after six opportunities, I finally made my EAGLE on hole one at my local course. 246+/- yard three wood and an 8 foot putt. I have been hitting the green lately from the tee, as my baby draw plays into it well, but the putting has been killing me.

Yep. "We don't feel like cutting it"...... I guess enough people complainted, as I went out last evening and they were trimmed. No first cut rough, just fairway to 3" rough, but still better than it was.

Yep. I love the feel of my corded grips. I had previously only worn a glove when using the driver, but this season, the glove hasn't come off the bag since the secound round. I am a fabricator/welder, so my hands are already well seasoned before the golf season starts up.

Cool and wet, actually. It's just so aggravating. I mean, it's not just me complaining about it. I would prefer the course to be a bit more challenging, but not in this manner. From what I have been reading, the rating can be effected by up to .75 and the slope by as much as 5 points.

The caretakers at my local course apparently are intentionally letting the rough grow out to ridiculous proportions this year. They have no intentions on mowing it any time soon, which is a huge problem for any shots not on the fairway as it is. It's already 6 to 7 inches deep in most parts, right up to the fringe of the putting greens. We were out for our weekly men's league, and there were more people out just walking in circles than actually taking shots, on account of not being able to spot their ball. Doesn't this neglect actually change the rating and slope of the course? I thought the course would at least have to be maintained to the condition it was in when it was last rated, would it not?

The longer the club the more flattening needed, I got my rocketblades shortened instead if flattening! There really are some terrible golf salesmen/fitters around! It's a good job a forum like this exists! I've learnt so much about golf & equipment on here I feel I know more than most of them! (I bet they play better than me though)

I sometimes don't use solvent at all and just put a couple of layers of build-up tape under the grip, usually if i am just trying a grip out, so I can easily remove it with the air compressor (installed with air as well). Haven't had one move yet. I use syringes to inject solvent under a grip that does have sticky tape, and just twist the grip back and forth untill it releases, then it just slides right off. I get the large syringes that are used for animal vaccinations from a local feed store and they are pretty cheap. In your case, I'd be worried about the backing releasing from the sticky tape, especially since you used solvent.
