  1. Thanks for the feedback. I'm still working to find a consistent spine angle that I feel I can repeat shot after shot. Good to know that there is a point where its too hunched over. But I do believe the main point would be to maintain the spine angle from address through impact. Hopefully, I'll find something I can repeat. As for the right hand, i think this is a remnant of the Hogan book. He says the thumb and finger really shouldn't do anything active in the swing, and recommends taking practice swings without them on the club. I don't even think about that anymore, and its something that just happens. Perhaps I should be a little more conscious about what im doing with the grip throughout the backswing. As for whats happening in the downswing, im confident you're correct. I just don't think im there yet in terms of starting to work on that. Still have plenty to do in terms of grip, stance, steady head, and basic things like that. Would you recommend i focus on things like face control in parallel to those?
  2. Day 32: Went to the short game practice facility in a nearby suburb. Worked chips, pitches, and sand shots. Threw a few flops in there too.
  3. Day 31: Played 9 holes this morning. Not the best round ever. Kind of a reality check after the weekend I had with the driver. I thought I had found something that was working. The problem was not knowing exactly what it was. Also missed a couple 3-4 foot putts. Good news was the short game was good today.
  4. Not everything in life is about money, but in this instance, it might be that simple. Let's say you value the majors over regular wins, fine. So the career wins come out in a wash, or at least pretty close either way. $41 million is a pretty convincing tie breaker. I'd rather have DJs career than Brooks.
  5. Day 30: Practice into net outdoors with irons. Priority piece is stance. Working on a way during set up/shot routine to find the right posture for the length of the club in my hands. I also think I may have found something today in regards to keeping my left arm straight thru impact. Hard to say because outdoor practice was cut short due to rain. Moved inside for chipping and putting practice.
  6. Day 29: Practice with the Driver. Really trying to hone in the stance and posture. Took some video for my swing thread. Also worked on partial swings with the lob wedge. Trying to get consistent swing speed reading for each of my full, arm parallel, and club parallel partial swing points. And did some indoor chipping practice.
  7. Been a few weeks since ive posted. Been working on stance and posture, and think I have made some progress. I'm coming off the best round of my life this past weekend, due mostly to how far my driver has come. The key to all of this change was 8/12 when @Grizvok produced that outrageously simple and outrageously illustrative image of what spine inclination should be, and what mine was. I've been working on it, also using the day 22 drill from the 30 day covid challenge, and really believe I hit a breakthrough during my practice last week. Here are two images.... the first one is my drives in the 63 holes i played after 8/12, but prior to my practice sessions last week. The one on the right is from the 27 holes i played this past weekend, after it seems something clicked for me during practice. First, I'm certainly not saying that after 14 drives, my driving is now perfect, and the job is done. Just saying I believe these images show a true change in performance, and hopefully will be looked back on as a turning point. Second, just a few notes about the less than typical drives in the second image. The 4 drives to the right were all basically the same miss, a push fade (and a slight one compared to my previous standards). The red one was head-on into a very strong wind, and the really short one was indeed the worst one. However, it happened to be on a hole with a penalty area to the right, and 141 yards is where I took my drop. The actual drive would have been closer to the other ones and further right. The short one on the left came on a par 4 playing at about 290 yards. I decided to "give it everything I had", barely was able to get the very bottom of the club face to make enough contact with the ball, and it carried about 130 yards in the air 2 feet off the ground. (fwiw, i put the approach 15 feet away from the pin and sunk the putt for a birdie.) So that was it, 4 of the same, manageable miss, and 1 mental error. All the other drives were basically the same with one severe pull. That's a massive improvement. Here is an image from a practice session today. And then also compared to a swing I posted here earlier in the swing thread. Pretty drastic difference. Is it possible I'm too hunched over now? And here is the full swing from today's practice session. Still a lot of head movement, my weight finishes considerably on my back foot, and that wrist is still bowed. But, I'm hitting solid for now. My plan to is keep with the stance as my priority piece. I still don't think I've quite figured out how to adjust for the irons just yet, and I'll post again after my practice session tomorrow. Once the stance is in a good place, priority piece will move to focus solely on stead head. Weight forward might be after that.
  8. I received and read Lowest Score Wins. No doubt, it aided in me putting up my lowest score ever over the weekend.
  9. Picked up 2 more birdies on the away composite this morning on 10 and 13.
  10. Day 28: Played literally the best 18 holes I've ever played. Beat my previous best score of 89 with an 84. Previous best 18 hole differential was 17.4, today was 14.6. Driving was very good, approach was good enough, short game was better than its been, and I sunk a few putts. I really don't think its any coincidence that this round comes on the day I hit 28 days of consecutive practice with focus on the priority piece from my swing thread and a few weeks after reading and understanding how to implement Lowest Score Wins. Still lots of work ahead, still too many flat out mishits. But I'm feeling good and having fun playing golf. That's what its all about.
  11. My opinion is that I'll never try them. There are too many options out there, and I'm not going to waste my time and money on the one that markets themselves as a "lifestyle" brand. They might very well be just as good performing as any other ball, but I'm suspicious of any brand in any industry that promotes themselves for any other reason than their purpose. I don't care if "the cool kids play them" (probably the most cringe-worthy ad I've ever seen), I just care if they perform.
  12. Day 27: Played 9 holes this morning. Also stayed after the round to practice 25+ foot putts. My round went ok. Driving was good, short game was improved, no major issues with putting. The major problem today was, with the way the round played out, I only had 4 full swings with irons and I mishit all of them. I'll hit a couple balls into the net before my round tomorrow morning. Hopefully some simple adjustment is all that is needed.
  13. Day 26: Full swings into a net with irons and driver. Continue to focus on stance and posture with a steady head. Stance and posture is getting easier and easier to get into. Today, I added free and easy as a swing thought with the stead head. Playing 27 holes this weekend. Looking forward to seeing if I'm able to implement what i've worked on this week.
  14. Day 25: Went to a practice facility in a nearby suburb with a dedicated short game practice area. My biggest goal today was simply to check out the facility as it was my first time there. I hit a variety of shots, but mostly worked off of instinct and feel. Before next time, I'll study up more on actual technique and see if what I think I'm doing is real.
  15. As a fellow hacker still working to eliminate severe mishits from my rounds, I just want to say that I don't think this is the right way to think about the golf swing. How the club head is delivered to the ball is a result of so many prior things going correctly. If your only measure of a swing is how close the head is delivered to the ground contact point, then don't take such a big backswing. You'll immediately be get a smaller +/- inches to your desired ground contact point. But I assume you also want to have a good, sound swing which produces some distance as well as be within +/- Y inches from your desired ground contact point. Its probably better to think in terms of "How many centimeters did my head move during my backswing? What change in angle of spine inclination occurred from address, to the top of the backswing, and back to ball contact? How much did my shoulder rotation, shortening of the lead arm, or wrist angles affect how well I was able to get the club head back to the same position as address?" These are the types of questions better suited to the form of question as you have posed. When youre able to produce smaller detlas to those questions, you'll be able to repeat delivery of the club head more reliably.
  16. I use the summary of Tee Shots, Approach, Short Game, and Putting strokes gained as a basic barometer of how I played. But I don't think the implementation beyond that is as helpful as Game Golf wants it to be. I'll look at those "Smart Tips", but I don't take everything exactly to heart as it says. When it says you could "improve 1.5 strokes from tee shots on holes 350-400 yards", that doesn't really help me too much. I know I need to hit straighter and further drives. The specific length of the hole is irrelevant and makes me question whether the algorithm programmed to develop those insights is actually highlighting the most helpful things. I'd much rather be able to see strokes gained on an individual shot basis and sort through it myself. But I'm also a nerd. And further, the strokes gained for short game and putting are only going to be as accurate as the pin placements set for each hole. So again, its fine I think to use as a general indicator, but I don't use it as the entire story of where I need to focus to improve. Your LSW book probably does a better job of that.
  17. Day 24: Outdoor swings into a net. Continue to focus on stance, posture, and steady head. Today I did full and partial swings with my wedges as well as full swings with 3 wood and 3 hybrid off the deck. Also, indoor chipping practice.
  18. Day 23: Indoor putting drills. Outdoor hitting into a net. Continue to focus on stance and posture with only swing thought being to keep a steady head. Full swings with mostly driver, but also 3 wood and 3 hybrid off the tee as well as "rescue" type swings with 3 hybrid and 7 iron. Stance, posture, and steady head only swing thought on all swings.
  19. Day 22: Indoor chipping. Also full swings into a net. Focus on stance and posture with only swing thought being to keep my head still.
  20. The problem is that he was given the sign to take the pitch in the first place. That's the whole point. It doesn't matter if he missed it or ignored it. Why is the manager asking his players to do less than their best? Its professional sports. Everyone should be doing their best all the time. That's what pro sports is. The best in the world competing against each other. If it truly is a blow out situation, and teams aren't supposed to try anymore, then do what other team sports do. Bench your stars, and let the backups in to try their best.
  21. Day 21: Played 9 holes. Not very well. Putting was pretty good. Everything else not so much. Time to get more practice in the next few weeks. Want to finish this year strong. Index went up over 19. My goal was to be an 18 this year.
  22. Day 20: Indoor putting drills. Been pushing a lot of puts lately. Hung a string over the putting line to check my head position. Also worked to bring the face more closed at impact.
  23. Day 19: Played 18 holes again. Had a terrific day off the tee. Game Golf has my strokes gained somewhere between a 5 and 10 handicapper. 50% fairways, and a few of the non-fairways were still left perfectly fine next shots. But that's where I had my issues today. Too many severe mishits on approaches. And my short game is still terrible. Plus, 40 putts today. 6 GIR, 4 nGIR, and 2 GIR+1. Those 12 holes combined for 10 over par. I can live with that until I start putting real work into the short game. The other 6 holes were the problem for someone hoping to keep that index at 18. On each of those holes I had the severe mishits, tops, and shanks on my approach. And then short game issues and 3 putts on top of it. Those 6 holes combined for +15. Have to eliminate those mishits, and have to improve my play from 100 yards in. I do keep in perspective my current anti-handicap was my handicap when this year started. The first 18 holes I ever broke 100 was at the course I played today not that long ago, literally the best round of my life at the time. And today, I'm counting up everything I lost on that same course on my way to a 97. Progress has been made. Just gotta keep working.
  24. I completed the par challenge for the composite courses my last round. This round, I managed to add a birdie on the 18th hole in an otherwise below average round. Only 16 left!
  25. Day 18: Played 18 holes. Pretty decent day off the tee, ok putting, dreadful short game. Also had some trouble advancing the ball towards the green on the first few holes. Overall, just another day in the life of an 18 handicapper. However, it was a beautiful morning, my partner and I won the best ball skins game, and I birdied the 18th hole, so still plenty of smiles to go around.
