    Rant: Chewers

I couldn't care less if people chew tobacco or sunflower seeds, but please don't spit on the green (of all places). The green is sacred ground. You don't run on the green, you don't slam your club down in frustration on the green, you don't drive or park a pull/power cart on the green, so why would you spit there? Out of respect for the course, your fellow golfers (in and out of your group), and even the greenskeeper please spit somewhere other than the sacred playing surface.
  2. On average I would say 3-5 strokes below the course rating for a typical pro. The top end guys might be 4-6 strokes under.
  3. The same reason why Scotty Cameron doesn't make wedges.
  4. Hitting a driver 300+ is vastly different than hitting an 8 iron 160.
  5. I hit my 8 iron from 160 in the fairaway. 172 off a tee isn't hard to believe...
  6. I have the opposite problem. The few times I've golfed with co workers I've had career rounds. I once did a quick 9 after work with a co worker and shot a 39, with a lipped out 3 putt. It was about a week before our company tournament. While teeing up my first drive I have to listen to him about how "good" I am, right before I sliced my ball into the next fair away in front of half the company.. Another time I agreed to golf with my boss and his two friends. All week I listened to him talk about how he shot an 85 the weekend before. We made a friendly wager and he agreed to give me 5 strokes. Well that day I shot an 89 (instead of my usual 93-97) and whipped him straight up by 4 strokes. According to him I was sandbagging haha..
  7. That is a band aid fix that would harm the tour..
  8. It's just proof that short game is the important aspect of the sport.
  9. The way I leave the ball short when hitting from 100 yards and in. The way I hit the ball long from 100 yards and out. Being a longer than average, accurate ball striker with a high handicap due to a dreadful short game. The silly mistakes I make.
  10. Power cleans for speed, strength and flexibility. They help you with any sport, golf included.
  11. I also find it hard to believe that high handicaps are hitting it so far. I flush my 5 iron 195 up to 205 off a tee. But my average is probably in the 180 or 185 range because of an inconsistent swing.
  12. I have Nike irons, wedges, putter, golf shoes, golf bag, gym bag, gym shoes, cross trainers, hockey helmet, gloves, compression shorts, hats, shirts, shorts and socks. I like their products, and the apparel is affordable.
  13. 1) Identify a possible swing flaw 2) Try out other 4 hybrids with varying shafts. Try out 7 woods with varying shafts 3) Analyze results of step 1 and 2 then make a decision
  14. An advantage to a rookie set is it comes complete, and they are cheap. If you buy it complete with woods/irons/putter/wedges and bag you can start replacing clubs as you wish. Buying marquee brand golf equipment can get pricey fast. Thats just my 2 cents. Look at Founders Club brand at Golftown. I believe they are exclusive to Golftown in Canada. I bought my fiance a Founders Club set complete with stainless steel irons, titanium driver, lifetime warranty and free fitting for about $320. I brother in law snagged a mens set with all the perks for just under $400. He has used them to years and his only complaint so far is that the shafts are too whippy for him. I have used them many times and they are quality clubs.
  15. Good lag and impact position naturally delofts the iron. Offers more control as well.
  16. I have a steel shafted nike ignite hybrid. The offset helps me to hook it though..
  17. I'm concerned about peoples behaviour not their attire..
  18. What is the problem? Most people, good and bad alike hit poor shots when they swing out of their shoes. A good player hooks it 15 yards into a fairaway bunker, a higher handicap slices it into the trees, a beginner tops or whiffs completely. Swing nice and easy. Smooth is straight, and straight is long.
  19. I am similiar to Bigboy. I imagine making an underhand throw at the hole. I bring the club back to a fairly consistant point and accelerate through the ball. Mental ticks and measurements leaves a lot of room for error imo.
  20. I use 56* down to an 8, and I've tryed the hybrid a few times with decent results. An 8 iron with a putting stroke works best for me, but only if I am not too far off the green.
  21. Try picking a target at the range, say about 120, then hit everything from a PW down to an 7 at it. It will probably help you develop your touch.
  22. I wear a hogan style flat cap, sometimes paired with a tight pair of poweder, blue polyester leisure suit pants.
  23. That analogy isn't completely valid.
  24. I play to the rules as best as i know them. I admit that I haven't really studied the rulebook, but I play everything down and take my penalties. I haven't gotten in a situation yet where I have been stumped by the rules. I don't really care how others score themselves. As long as they aren't comparing their score to mine.
  25. You don't need to do it, but the ability to hit a fade/draw/high/low shot at will is invaluable. It really isn't that hard to do either. Mastering it is a different story though..
