  1. Yep. Watson shot a 66 today. Not bad for a home made swing and no coach. Maybe he does know what he is doing??
  2. Bubba is on record as saying Sawgrass doesn't suit his eye. I think he has missed the cut 3 or 4 times there. He dislikes the look so much he didn't play practice rounds there for the tourney this year.
  3. Absolutely nothing wrong with going used as long as you aren't getting a worn out POS with no groove life left. You can buy two used vokeys at a "play it again sports" for less than one bought new. One suggestion is if you buy used, make sure to get the lie and loft checked before walking out of the store. The check out dude at the "Golf Exchange" sort of chuckled when I asked him to make sure the used 52 degree wedge was really 52 degrees. He wasn't laughing at me when he put it on the loft machine and found it to be 49 degrees. Hmmmm......I wonder why i hit my 47 degree PW only a few yards further than my 52 degree gap wedge?
  4. Put the joint down dude!!
  5. Those Diablo irons are hideous!! There is nothing myth-like about hogan irons. I bought a set of Apex Plus irons in the off season for a fraction of what a new set would cost and have played my best golf of my career with them. I have been asked what kind of irons I'm hitting a few times this year and even had a 16 yo kid ask me if my initials were BH. LMAO
  6. I can say there are a few of us on here that are envious of your long game and I would give my left nut to hit the same amount of GIR. OK not really, but you get the point. I can't offer you any advice. However if a hack like me can average < 2 putts per hole then anyone can do the same. I think the old adage "confidence is everything" is so true, especially in putting. I believe in no way am I talented in the putting dept., but when I miss a GIR, I view it as a challenge to get up and down and am severely disappointed if I don't. When standing over a par putt from any distance if you are saying to yourself "There is no way I'm going to make this" then there is little chance you will.
  7. I didn't carry a driver or 3W for the first 1.5 years I got back into golf. I played long par 4's like par fives with my 3h off the tee. Obviously with your experience it won't be long before you get tired of hitting mid to long irons after hitting a hybrid from the tee, but getting started it's not a bad idea. There is no need to spend big $$$ on a 3w out of the gate. If you have an idea for what type of 3W you want or what shaft you need you can get good used clubs for cheap @ a play it again sports, or in the used club bin at the local golf shop.
  8. My last two rounds I played the TP Black LDP for the first time ever. All I can say is wow! After two years of searching I have found my ball. Long and straight off the tee, green grabbing spin (but not too much like the v-1) from the low irons, and a nice click and roll off the putter. Edit to say that the reason I hadn't played the TP black (or any other TM ball for that matter) is that I'm sort of an oddball and like swim against the stream so to speak.
  9. Anyone notice the date the article was posted?
  10. 85 I hit the ball pretty decent today considering it was with a steady wind blowing 15-20 and gusting to 30mph. I had a 3 hole stretch where I went double, triple, double which killed my score and kept me from getting very close to the 70's. I did have to scramble a lot, but my misses were good misses and kept me from to much damage with the exception of that killer 3 hole stretch. The stats: 42/43 8/14 FW ONLY 7 GIR. 31 putts including one 3 jack at the last. We'll just call it a lapse of concentration as I missed a stupid little three foot comebacker. 1 birdies, 7 pars, 7 bogies, 2 doubles, and one frickin' triple.
  11. I just couldn't get off the tee for the first nine holes today. I had 3 stroke and distance penalties and 3 other times I had to chip out sideways and that was just the first nine. There were six 6's on the card for the first nine holes. When it was over it all added up to 47. The next nine was much better and I doubled the last hole for a 40. I actually hit my irons decent, but it's tough to hit GIR when you are hitting 3 off the tee and chipping out sideways. The stats: 47/40 6/14 FW and 7 GIR. 32 putts including one 3 jack. 2 birdies, 7 pars, 2 bogies, 6 doubles, and a frickin' triple.

    Nemesis Hole

My nemesis hole is a 555 yard par 5. At about 270 off the tee the fairway rolls down into a 40 foot deep swale. Right at the drop off there are tow HUGE trees 40 yards apart. Basically you've got to hit it short of the swale, which isn't a problem for me, but not too short because you want your next shot to be hit between the trunks of the two trees. If you lay back too far your shot will be at branch height of the trees. It seems like there is only a 20 yard gap at that height to get your ball through. The optimum landing area is only 20-30 yards wide. If you hit your first two shots well then you will almost be guaranteed a par. In the summer I have hit a few drives too far and have ended up in the swale either in the bottom or on a severe downhill lie. Either one is death for me. I've played this hole 9 times so far this year and have doubled it 5 times, bogied it twice and parred it twice.
  13. 87 45/42 today in cool and extremely wet conditions. 8 of 14 FW, and only 5 GIR. 33 putts including a 3 putt bogey when I missed a tap in 3 footer for par. 3 up and down for par. 8 pars, 5 bogeys, 5 double bogeys. In the first three hole I soaked 2 balls, one due to a bad swing and the other to a bad bounce, leading to two of the double bogeys. It was all down hill from there, although I did par the last 4 holes to keep it from the 90's.
  14. I'm jealous. I've been living in SE Indiana for 13 years now and miss the mountains, snowboarding/skiing, hiking etc that my home state of WA offers. My home town is 60 miles south of Spokane.
  15. Played on and off since I was a 13, but the last two years seriously. Never an ace, but had two close calls in 2010. The first an 8i from 150 to two feet, and yes I made the putt. The other was a 7i from 180. As you can see from the flag I got a ton of help from the wind. Ball mark and ball.
  16. My game is steadily improving! Career best 81. 39/42 today in 50F degrees with a 15 MPH breeze. I hit it off the tee better than I ever have hitting 12 of 14 FW, but only 6 GIR. 31 putts, 5 up and down for par. 1 birdie, 10 pars, 5 bogeys, a double bogey and a triple bogey. A sloppy start to the back 9 with a double and a triple on the first two holes was the true test of my round. This is the point in the past where I would've just mailed it in and started hacking it up. But I hung in there and played the last 7 holes at +1 with the lone birdie on 18. Differential was 10.8 I'm sniffing @ the 70's!!!
  17. I missed it too. LMAO!!! Piss off Wanker!!!!
  18. Yardage loss is to be expected in cold weather. Cold ball, cold air, stiff breeze and a golfer wrapped up to keep warm all make for shorter distances. During these times I try to concentrate on contact and ball flight and not worry to much about distances.
  19. Goals for 2011 are to drop the index to a 10 or better. Practice with a purpose (from 100 yards and in) rather than just beating balls at the range with my full swing. Edit to add the obligatory break 80 goal
  20. From the middle of the FW a 167 yard six iron with a perfect draw over a tree (guards the front right of the green) and a creek which fronts the green to the very front of the green. I needed two more clubs to get the ball near the hole because I didn't account for the wind. The putt was at least 75 feet and I put it to 2 feet and made par.
  21. 86 today in 40F degrees with a stiff 10 MPH breeze. I hit it absolutely like crap and had to scramble way to much. 8 of 14 FW, only 5 GIR, 32 putts, 4 up and down for par. Getting very little roll on an extremely wet course. Hitting 6i and 7i for approach shots doesn't lead to a lot of hit greens for me although I can handle being 10 yards off as my short game is pretty good right now.. Wedge play remains strong and putting is pretty good as well, but could be better as I left 2 birdie putts a couple revs short. i really can't wait to play whe it warms up.
  22. After I quit taking the shots I did see an improvement (compared to before I took the shots) in symptoms for about 6 months and then I was back to square one.
  23. Seriously??? Comparing underwear to golf gloves? I would definitely use a glove before I would ever wear "butt huggers"!!!
