LOL...Just wait until they cut the trees down where I play. Most of the balls I find in rough areas of the course I'll put them somewhere on or in a tree. Off the 1st tee box there's a hole in a tree that I must have put at least 5 dozen balls in over the course of a year or so and it isn't full yet. The hole is roughly 12 - 15 feet off the ground and I use a ball retriever to put the balls in. Near the 9th green there's a tree with a large bowl shaped crotch about 5 feet off the ground.. I put all cut or damaged balls I find in there. Because they can be seen I always place the best side out. Near the tee boxes I'll place balls high up in the trees with the retriever and ball hawkers eventually find them. On one tee there's a tree with a very small knot hole and I use a rock to pound a ball in there so just the curvature of the ball is seen.. someone must bring a pry bar with them because the ball disappears every time.

I forgot to mention for those not familiar with the Oakley military / government program if you go to this Oakley website: https://www.oakleysi.com/Page.cfm?id=1&utm;_source=adwords&utm;_medium=g&utm;_term=b-us%20standard&utm;_content=programlp&utm;_campaign=sitelinks&gclid;=COib_Ou9kcACFQMMaQodfZUAuw And if you meet the criteria you will find some very good deals on Oakley products; "The program is for U.S. active duty military, reserve, military veterans possessing a DD Form 256 or DD Form 214, federal and local law enforcement, fire, EMS and those holding military retiree credentials. We have developed a strong program over the past 20 years and strive to ensure that the integrity of the program is maintained." "Members of the U.S. Military including active, retired, or those registered with veteran status, will receive lifetime membership after membership approval. Your account is authorized for your use only; it is not transferable to any other individual." -
Prescription Oakley Sunglasses

I wear these: http://www.oakley.com/products/5195/17350?cm_mmc=gbase_csfeeds-_-PLA-_-master-_-03-921 They are the Oakley Flak Jacket XLJ with the G30 Iridium golf specific lens. I love wearing these glasses, they make objects like the golf ball "pop" when looking for them. They really highlight the landscape. Although I normally wear bi-focals these are a single distance only grind. I wouldn't recommend bi-focal / progressive lenses for golf, BTDT with my other pair of "regular wear" Oakley's. The ball moves all over the place when trying to setup to make a shot. LOL -
IMO they are. The 18 holes / cart / and lunch is a good deal. It's not just a hamburger or a hot dog either. I'm a walker but, if I'm there on the "special" I go for it. Anyways, here's their rates. http://candlewoodvalleygolf.com/?page_id=117

LOL... yeah, Sunset is narrow, tight and you have to know it well. When I played with my nephew at a course in Greenwich I was shocked at the width of the fairways.LOL But, for me it's only about 5 miles from home so, I play whenever I want as much as I want. Richter is a nice course and yes, I get the resident rate. I just don't play it that often due to the making a specific tee time as a single. OTOH, Candlewood Valley I usually just show up, check with the starter and he always says yes, he has open slots and to go pay.

Late starter here, mid 50's around 2006. My daughter was working at the local golf course here and said I should take up golf. She was on her high school golf team at the time and wanted to "do something together" so, I said I'd think about it not knowing my wife had already bought me a set of clubs. Well, the rest is history. 8+ years later and I'm still struggling at this game. LOL I think I should have stayed with competition archery... at least I was good at that and was consistently near the top of the class I was in.

Hmmm... You live in New Milford but, play 45+ miles to the south??? You must teach / work down there and knock out 9 or 18 after work. I usually play in at Sunset Hill in Brookfield and occasionally Candlewood Valley in New Milford or Richter Park in Danbury. Welcome to the forum.

FWIW... I been making purchases from 3 Balls since around 2007. Over the years this includes 2 sets of irons, fairway woods, drivers, and putters for same as well as several other drivers and associated items. I never encountered a credit card problem whatsoever in probably a couple of dozen transactions. 1. I'm curious to know if these were online credit card purchases or ones done over the phone? 2. Was the "home address" different than the "ship to" address. Have I encountered credit card data theft? You bet, I tracked it down to a local Wendy's fast food joint where my wife used the card. When I asked her if she kept the card in sight the entire time she said no. She gave it to the guy at the drive up window. This leads me to believe a cell phone photo was taken on the front and rear of the card and possibly transmitted to one of his buddies. Ours was one of three incidents like this from this food joint. The reason I mentioned all that is, if the order was called in to 3 Balls a untrustworthy employee could have taken a copy of the CC data. I'm not sure if they would have access to computer related data. 3 Balls does list several forms of data security. What I find odd is a purchase in Ireland. Where was it being shipped to? Was the card info relayed to a relative or an associate living in Ireland? In my incident it was stopped almost immediately as I only make online purchases that are shipped to my home address. My CC company called to verify when they saw the pattern change in the shipping address. In any event, I didn't lose anything (the selling retailer did) and I hope neither did you.

Men wearing women's golf clothes
CT207 replied to MiniBlueDragon's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I know I couldn't wear that jacket... I can hear the comments now..... "Oooohh look, a Panda" -
Thanks for the compliment.. Nah, I don't need a seat, we move along fairly quick and I'd be wasting time deploying it and putting it back. Plus, my playing partners and most of the other club members would make fun of me for using it and I'd probably pick up a new moniker. LOL Most courses around here don't allow coolers but, I can store 4 bottles of water in the insulated pocket of my bag and carry two in the holders on the cart. For those hot days I freeze two or three to keep the ones in the bag cool and while I "nurse" a cool one on the cart the other on the cart is thawing out. Once thawed out a bit I drink some off that one and dump the warmer water of the other in it to let the ice cool it down again. Our foursome normally play 5 days a week early morning and I'm the only one not retired (I can though). At times I'll also play a round or two late in the afternoon on the weekends.

I love my ClicGear cart. I bought 2 of them and my daughter uses the orange one. Anyway, mine probably has about 1,000 miles in it without any issues, Some items began to show a little wear due to age and use, nothing that would make it nonfunctional but, I decided to "pimp my cart". I installed new grips, a steering knob that screws into the umbrella mount (This does make it even easier to maneuver) and I installed matching colored wheels...

TRUE Shoes, Barefoot, and More
CT207 replied to iacas's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I love the True shoes.. My first pair was the PHX which I sort of retired due to them splitting open at the "hinge" points. No problem with the shoe they just had roughly 800+/- miles of walking on them. I still have them as a back up pair. This season I'm sporting a pair of True Tours. I really like the feeling of the feet being somewhat flat on the ground. This also helps because when the course is really wet, like it is now with the roughly three inches of rain we're getting now, I'll wear a pair of those slip on beach shoes so I won't ruin a good pair of golf shoes. -

Interesting.... an hour and a half to Springfield.. two hours to Worcester. That sounds like a possibility for me depending on the date. -
Last (Golf) Thing You Bought?
CT207 replied to JYB's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
What did you buy on your last trip to the golf store? Nothing.... I drove about 40 miles one way to buy some re-gripping supplies at Golfsmith (1st time there) only to get there and be told that "the stores don't carry everything that's in the catalog". I told her that she should put that disclaimer on the website. The store was just about the same as going to Dick's Sporting Goods five miles from my house. Drove back home, got on the computer to The Golf Works and ordered 6 New Decade Multi Compund grips (already had 13), 2 quarts of Brampton HF-100, 50 grip strips, and a solvent catch pan. Prior to that I decked out my yellow Clic Gear push cart with color matched wheels, installed the hand hold that goes in the umbrella mount, new hand grips and a second water bottle holder. And a friend of mine got me a towel from that Vegas pawn shop that's on Pawn Stars..... LOL Nothing that will help me play any better but, the exercise keeps the cholesterol down.. -
Looks like the weather for the next few days will be in the 50's unfortunately, there's a 50% chance of rain. I might be able to get another round or two in. The club I belong to closed down for the season last week but, we got the OK to use the course if the weather permits. just no flag sticks, tee box markers, golf carts, etc. I'm a walker so, carts don't matter to me anyway. Richter Park is still open and will official close down for the season on December 9th. I agree with the late season lost ball epidemic. Me and the guys I play with intentionally watch each others shots in an effort to find the balls easier but, some just seem to enter the "Bermuda Triangle" of golf..... they simply vanish even though we saw where they landed. Could be fairway gnomes taking them. LOL

I would have invented a pencil sharpener that would cut the end of a pencil in a concave fashion and use that as the tee. Buy one sharpener and make free tees........ I use a plastic type tee when using a driver. I think I've went through maybe three of them in the last few years. As mentioned, on iron shots off of a tee box I'll simply use whatever broken one I find in or on the ground.

any negative effects playing with prescription glasses?
CT207 replied to power aid's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I wear progressive bifocals and if I wear them for golf I find the ball appears to move around and it's in & out of focus at address due to the prescription of the glass. Yes, my head moves around a lot with the bifocals. I now have 2 pairs of Oakley's (one golf specific) that have my prescription for distance only and its much better. Jotting down info on the score card is a nuisance sometimes but, I can deal with that. -
Congratulations... I also walk using a ClicGear because my doctor said I needed exercise due to high cholesterol. Weather permitting I walk 18 everyday. I've knocked about 165 points off my cholesterol level. (also take meds for it). I like walking because I find myself deciding what club I'm going to use and my "line" as I approach the ball. One thing I've found with all the walking is the need for frequent hydration. I usually bring at least 2 bottles of water with me, one cold and the other one frozen so it thaws out /stays cold while I'm playing. At the turn and at the end of the round I'll buy a Gatorade from the clubhouse.
-
I use one of those cargo retaining bars across the back to make a "pocket" for the clubs. The bar is covered with a couple of towels for protection. My "bag of stuff" and carts, etc are just forward of that. I have a locking fiberglass hard cover for the bed so, all the golf equipment stays in there all season.
-
There's usually 4 or 5 balls kept in my push cart compartment for regular play (one of which I'll put in my pocket) then in the golf bag there are two sleeves of new balls. Of course there's the large zip lock bag in there that contains the balls I found.

What Ball Do You Play??
CT207 replied to JoshuaVnyrd1817's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Pinnacle Gold. Where I play hardly anyone plays that brand so, I don't have to mark them. -
Also, one other CYA item. The other insurance company will probably call the both of you and attempt to ask questions about the crash, your injuries, and whatnot. Direct all their inquiries to your insurance company claims representative. My car was rear ended and subsequently totaled last fall. The guy's insurance company kept calling my house "wanting info"... obviously to protect their client. I was advised by my insurance representative not to talk to them and if they have any questions to call her (the rep). She said they generally record the calls as well as take notes in case of litigation. On a side note, I was glad the 2004 Ford Taurus had a large trunk.... my clubs were in there at the time of the crash and they survived.

Here in CT it was mid 70's last Friday so, this Friday morning we planned to play our first round of golf this season. It doesn't look good... 1 to 3 inches (down from 3 - 5") of snow predicted Wednesday after midnight into Thursday morning. It's 2:30AM here now and there hasn't been much more than a dusting so there's hope.

I wear progressive lenses. It took me awhile before I figured out why I was having a difficult time hitting a golf ball but, the slight, or any, head movement made the ball appear to move a little bit and thus threw off other parts of the swing. Sort of like going down a flight of stairs the first couple times with progressives. I now wear either my prescription (for distance only) Oakley sunglasses or an old pair of distance only glasses that I keep in my bag as back up should I forget the Oakley's. I just found it easier to do this than to try to adapt. My brother, also a progressive wearer, experienced the same thing and now wears single prescription glasses when golfing.
