  1. I shot 41 over 9 holes the other day. The next 9 I shot 49. 9 holes means jack squat. Your carry distances are meaningless. Lots of great players hit it longer, lots hit it shorter. Not sure what the weightlifting stats were included for, but whatever. The score is the only thing that matters, and right now, you've put yourself in the elite group called "Players Who Can Break 90". Congratulations. That indicates that you can break 90, nothing more. There are 30 million golfers in the United States. About 2000 out of that number are good enough to make some sort of living playing golf. If you could break 70 on your home course at your age, you'd have a chance. Having said all that, it's the ones that want it most, and are willing to put in the work, that succeed. And starting from where you are, a career as a tour professional, even at the mini tour level, will take an unreal amount of work.
  2. I make a little over 100k and with two small kids and a mortgage on a modest home in the Seattle area, it's a comfortable and decent life. Nowhere near extravagant though.
  3. Sorry, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
  4. D -10.5 3W - 15 3 Hybrid - 21 4 - 24 5 - 27 6 - 31 7 - 35 8 - 39 9 - 43 PW - 47 GW - 50 SW - 56 LW - 60 My previous sand wedge was bent to 55... need to get the same thing done to my new one.
  5. Wilson Pi5, standard everything, DG X100 shafts.
  6. Yes, but not as well. Breaking 90 was a goal for this year, and I achieved it largely because I finally starting hitting driver with some consistency. There's about 40 yards between 3 wood and driver for me, which is a wedge instead of a 7 iron. My wedge game is probably my strongest area so hitting driver plays to my strengths. I used to not even carry a driver - now I do and I hit it as often as I feel is smart. What used to be my biggest liability is now one of my strengths thanks to some lessons and alot of range time, and my index has come down about 5 points as a result.
  7. I definitely don't hate the 3 iron, I just know I'm going to get better results overall with my hybrid. I carry a 21 degree Callaway X hybrid in place of my 3 iron, and it's been a big part of my game improving over the last year. Last month I hit a par 5 green in two shots for the first time in my life using it. :) I'm not taking out the 4 iron though. *crosses arms* If I can't hit it, it just means I need to work harder, not buy another club.

  9. I have no brand loyalty, as you can see in my sig. I use what I think gives me the best chance to score well.
  10. It's funny, I just went and checked the specs on two of the irons I hit while getting fitted last year. The Cally X-18s had 37* on the 8 iron, and the Cobra FP has 36. I didn't like the Cobras because I hit them higher than the Callaways. :? The FP irons are a D1 swingweight... I wonder if that has something to do with it. The lofts are a bit counterintuitive to the results they produced.
  11. I've been a NXT Tour guy for awhile, but lately I've been experimenting with the Maxfli Black Max, which I really like.
  12. My Cleveland 56 degree wedge seems to be what comes out of the bag when I have to be creative around the green, or when I have a shot of 50-75 yards. It's really getting worn out, and I'm not looking forward to replacing it. It's been my go-to club for years.
  13. I just bought a Titleist 907D1. I hit a bunch of drivers, and it was the was the clear winner. Can't wait for it to show up.
  14. Cobra Speed Pro S, 9.5 with Proforce V2 X-Flex 75. I'm pretty sure those are the specs I need, but I'm gonna get on a launch monitor before I pull the trigger.
  15. FWIW, I read an article recently where several different balls were struck by a robot and the RPMs recorded. It was a 75 yard shot with a sand wedge. The difference in spin between the Titleist ProV1 and the NXT Tour was negligible, like 8310 and 8200. The NXT Tours are half the price, so that's what I play, and I've always been happy with their performance overall.
  16. I'm using a Footjoy right now. For feel and durability it's been the best I've tried thus far. The Nicklaus brand glove from Costco are pretty decent, and you can't beat the price. I tried some Callaway gloves that were being sold at Costco, and they were crap. I wore a hole in the palm after a week of practice - something that takes me a month to do normally.
  17. As I understand it, with a swing speed of
  18. I'd say driver. With the new technology on the market now, you'll notice the biggest difference with that. I'd get a putter next. Lots of great products out there, just find one that suits you. You can hit a 130 yard shot with lots of different clubs. The gap wedge would be third on my list.
  19. Funny story... I played with 3 strangers once, one of whom was a really loud, cocky middle-aged guy, lots of gold, talked a big game. We teed off on the 11th hole, and this gent and I both put our drives in the right rough. He promptly went to the ball that traveled farther and hit his second shot. I got to the other ball and informed that it wasn't mine. He didn't believe me at first, but then realized his mistake, took his penalty strokes like a man, and didn't talk nearly as much the rest of the round.
  20. Yeah, driver is definitely my biggest ball-striking struggle right now. Everything else in my bag is x-stiff per my clubfitter's recommendation, i just haven't got to the driver yet. I'm looking forward to getting on the launch monitor and seeing what driver/shaft combo produces the best results.
  21. front right - tee, repair tool, ball marker front left - money clip everything else stays in the bag or on my push cart.
  22. I have an Aldila 55g stiff shaft in my driver, which I bought off the rack before getting fitted. My clubhead speed with driver is in the 108-112 range, and I'm told that shaft is too light and whippy for me. I need to go do a driver fitting...
  23. I tried these out when I got fitted recently. I hit them entirely too high; they just weren't a good fit for my steep, fast swing. I ended up with Callaway X-18s. Nice looking clubs though - hopefully they'll work for you.
  24. A little dusting of baby powder will show you what you want without shelling out money for special impact tape.
