  1. Whatever No thanks, I have seen and done it all and know what works and what does't. I am sure you have also, but thank you for the offer.
  2. The pros and cons here are amazing. Bottom line is the short game is touted by all players as very important. If you hit the Greens in regs that is great, but when you don't ?, then what.
  3. If they still had the Wood and Balata they would still be good. A stick and a rock, now that is funny..
  4. That's great they still can play. I play with one 77 yr. old that still hits it good although he has no short game, never had an injury. My game at 78 is going rapidly downhill thanks to 2 hips, a broken back and neck a few years ago, a Stroks 2 years ago and Heart Surgery last Dec. I still play though although not so good, but I still love the game and my short game saves me. I was a +4 at one time and played a few PGA Tournaments and 2 Majors, but it is what it is and I am not quitting. I am an 18 and the "Boys" put me on the Green Tees now. But I am still playing. My point is enjoy now while you are healthy and try to stay that way. Work on the short game because you will need it. and above all enjoy the game. Best to you. But, I am still trying, lol.
  5. Most Golfers what think their short game is holding them is true because the work on the long shots rather than what counts. As we get older and the long game becomes a pain the short game is more important all the time, as it is for most Golfers, the scoring shots. Working on the long game, buying Drivers and strong lofts does not help like a good short game. It is the important part of scoring.
  6. Well, whatever. I will keep quiet to keep from being rude with my real feelings. Good luck and Good Golf. Like the car ads show fast, distance is the top priority in Golf, and it sells a lot of New Clubs that are supposed to be the Holy Grail.
  7. You can check the serial number on them and give Titleist a call, they can tell you.
  8. Well Vinsk, we all have opinions on it, but if you read the article Tiger seems to be referring to what he is getting into and that is course design. He said the longall is taking more property to make courses longer. It also takes more maintenance, water, and other things. I don't think he has other problems except that maybe he doesn't like to think about people knocking it way past him when he was the man a few years ago. Do we really know what he means?
  9. Those are great thoughts
  10. Randall, thank you for the reminder. In the future when someone tells I don't know what I am talking about I WILL ignore it. Let us keep it civil.
  11. That is right Mudpack, and they have by doing that created an Iron that we can hit longer and higher. I don't know what you are driving at Star, but I do know a bit about the stuff, I am sure I do not know anything like what you know, but I have gotten by for a lot of yrs. as a consultant to TM, Callaway, and others, so I will hang my head and try to go on. Thank you for the advice, and sorry to rumple your feathers. Now get over it, okay? this kind of stuff is not necessary.
  12. Okay, but what makes you think I even want the answers. I have my own thoughts as you seems to, so what. End of story, Okay?
  13. So what is your point, we have a problem here?
  14. Personally I used to love a 14 degree 3 I hit a mile, but as I got ancient I need more loft to get it, (the ball) up. I like the adjustable cause I can have a BB 3 and set it at 17 and find it is perfect. I since have followed suit on the 5 and 7 and even the hybrids to cut down on Irons. Before that I played an old Burner for years. I even upped me BB Driver to 12 and it is better. As you age and get shorter height is your friend. A little side story about 3 woods is that back in the 70s when I was making all the custom Woods at Cobra, I mean real Wood. I made a lot of different Woods for a lot of Tour guys and was making a couple of Drivers for Jack Nicklaus and we were talking about clubs and I asked him what club he dislikes most and he said "3 Wood", I asked why and he said because it was his feeling that it is the club you are trying to hit a long way and not always off a good lie. He said he would rather hit the 1 Iron because he knew he could hit it out of a tough lie. In fact when the Pros were coming in most of them were after a good 3 Wood, it is a tough club to hit or at least was in those days. But, today they are killing it.
  15. The fact is that regardless of what the actual loft is you have to know what it will give you. Numbers are different for anyone and should never be anything but a guide to what you hit where. But,,, believe it or not it IS a marketing thing to sell clubs. And by the way, the "Players Clubs" are usually a couple of degrees or more loft than the GIs. Tell me why that is.
  16. Just shows that smart people play with what works and they like and that newer is not always better.
  17. The first time we played #2 a few years ago my wife who was a 20 hip. got up and whacked a Driver on the first hole, the slapped a 3 wood onto the grin. and rolled in the Putt for a 3. She laughed and said "I thought this course was tough", 127 strokes later when found out it is. An Englishman who was playing with us reminds us of that 3 overtime we talk to him. It is a great place, enjoy the experience.
  18. You are right in your comment, "who cares if you are hitting longer clubs into the Green than your buddies". That is the way it should be as we get older and shorter, but this of us who were very long in the past and most Golfers in general who have played a long time do care. I don't know what it is but it gets harder over the years to take being the short guy and bothers a lot of players. You are right, it should not bother us but because of the fact that Golf is all about distance today it is hard to see that 8 on the club you used to hit 150 and has become your 100 club. As a teacher and club fitter myself I have seen it over and over, and right or not, it is a fact. And at 78 I have been through myself.
  19. Well, good for you, and I hope you find what you are looking for. I find it interesting that yesterdays 9 iron at 44 degrees is now todays PW however. So there is a PW stamp on it so people like you and I are feeling better about hitting a PW rather than a 9. That was all started by Cobra with the King Cobra Irons way back and it sold clubs because people hit the Cobras longer. Tell me. How many people have a clue as to the loft of an Iron. Not that many and if they hit the PW longer they want that club. But in a way you are right, it is still called a PW as it was in the 50s when it was 50 degrees. Happy hunting.
  20. Sounds ridicules, but I never saw it to make an opinion. I have played a lot of Golf and seen many times where it was hard to determine the line though. Could be an over mow or a double cut or whatever, but it seems a but of a mystery.
  21. Ha ha ha, that is a great reply, brilliant. "spectators were bound to be in them" lol
  22. Good point Wally, the rules are hard to enforce when there is no obvious boundary. The Dustin Johnson thing was the worst I have ever seen and the explanation that is was well defined and posted for all to see was nothing but a attempt to justify what the powers in hand did to DJ. When they allow people to walk and stand in what they call a "Sand Trap" they are good candidates for Densa. That was nothing but taking the Championship away from him. This LPGA thing is no different and should have been handled differently by the both parties.
