Womens clubs - what height are they generally built for?
k1993 replied to Sheekamoo's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
i'm a girl, 5'5". i purchased women's x-18's stock two years ago when i was probably 2 inches shorter. they were great for me back then, but they're too short for me now. i went to get fit last week and i ended up ordering x-22's in senior flex cut down half an inch. so i'd say... women's clubs are best for women around the 5'3" height? -
Last year when I was 15, I went to a Nike golf camp at UCSD. Although the instruction wasn't that helpful, I improved my game a lot over the 6 days. My confidence improved a lot and I also learned to the enjoy the game more. Have fun if you go!

THE KITE RUNNER IS SUCH A GOOD BOOK!! For AP English I have to read American Dream, Billy Budd, and Amusing Ourselves to Death. Ughhhh

I'm a 16 year old golfer too! I used to always play with either my father or my instructor, until my father found out the junior walking rate is $10 at our local course. So after that, he made me walk by myself just about everyday. =[

I've never been hit but I was playing in a tournament about a month ago and I hit a guy. The third hole at the course I was playing is a dog left left and my tee shot ended in the left rough after hitting some trees. I was about 180 yards away from the green so I take out my three wood. There was a few gardeners sitting on their lawn mowers on the right side of the green. I waited a while and they didnt move so I just hit my ball. My ball flew straight towards one of the gardeners and hit him right in the shoulder.

yeah my coach made it very clear with me before i tried out that i would have to play from the blue tees if i wanted to play on the boys team. that explains my high handicap haha
-
i played Torrey Pines right after the US Open last year. So difficult =/
-
i play from the blues because i play on the high school boys golf team so i have to. but i'm a girl and it's really of frustrating when you have to play 200+ yard par 3's

I think the guy I take lessons from charges $50 half an hour, so $100 an hour. But I've been taking lessons from him since I was 11 years old and he gives me way more lessons than my father is paying him for.

Before I made the high school golf team, I didnt know anyone that played golf so I played almost everyday by myself. I still play by myself sometimes, but not as often. I've realized that by playing with myself so often, I got too nervous while playing with others and would screw up. So try playing with other golfers every chance you get.

What's in your bag (other than clubs)?
k1993 replied to frogger's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Balls, plastic tees, wooden tees, pretzels, graham crackers, water, gatorade, thin windbreaker, thicker windbreaker, titleist beanie, golf cap, bobby pins, hair ties, divot fixer, 4 gloves, tape, alignment sticks, two bottles of sunscreen, rain cover for my bag, towel, rule book, sooooo many scorecards that i get too lazy to throw away, sunglasses, pencils, keys, sharpies, tampons, range cards, range tokens, sunglass wipes, tissues, oil blotting paper, ipod, wallet, cough drops, contact solution. although i have so much crap in my bag, my bag is fairly light even after walking 18 holes -
My dad has two Nickent hybrids and he is obsessed with them haha. He bought them for $15 each at the Nickent factory store near LA.

I met someone who works at the TaylorMade fitting facility and my instructor asked him about me getting fitted and they said I most likely wouldn't be able to get fitted there. I think their fitting facility is very exclusive? I dont know. But my instructor sends a lot of his students to the Callaway center to get fit so I'm going there instead since I have Callaway irons right now anyways. Titleist also has a fitting center in California, but I think it's $750 to get fitted.

I use the spray-on kind of sunblock which my mom makes me use.... every other hole. She's really anal about it... haha
-
I'm planning on getting fitted at the Callaway Performance Center in Carlsbad. I haven't been fitted before, but hopefully fitted clubs will help me tremendously, especially because I'm still playing ladies clubs that I have outgrown. =P

There's these crazy people that live in the bushes on the 15th hole of my home course. They also bathe in the lake in front of the green. So freaky...

I'm a girl and I play on the boys' golf team at my high school. Actually, I'm the only girl on the team haha...All the high schools in the area have both boys' and girls' teams, but the high school I attend is fairly new and doesnt have enough interest in golf. Everyone on our team is pretty well off and our coach makes us pay for everything, from range balls to team shirts to team bags. We have practice everyday and we leave school at 1:30. We'll usually go play the front nine or we'll hit the range and short game area. We have never had a fundraiser before, probably either because our coach is a lazy bum, or none of us on the team really need financial help.
