Actually, if it is best-ball stoke play competition, a stroke can be conceded according to the handicap manual. and the Rule Book:
-
I didn't know which to pick. I yell fore when needed and on time, it is also, almost every stroke!! :)
-
When was the last time Tiger missed a cut?
-
you aren't one of THOSE people until you start yelling at your partner for not following the rules and you split the pairing and go play by yourself.

"4-1. Unfinished Holes and Conceded Strokes A player who starts, but does not complete a hole or is conceded a stroke must record for handicap purposes the most likely score. The most likely score may not exceed the player's Equitable Stroke Control limit, defined in Section 4-3. This most likely score should be preceded by an "X." (See Decision 4-1/1.) There is no limit to the number of unfinished holes a player may have in a round, provided that failure to finish is not for the purpose of handicap manipulation. Example 1: A and B are partners in a four-ball stroke play competition. On a hole on which neither player receives a handicap stroke, A lies two, 18 feet from the hole. B lies two, 25 feet from the hole. B holes a putt for a 3. A picks up on the hole, because A cannot better B's score. A records X-4 on the scorecard because 4 is A's most likely score." I am starting to see that in a standard round, I should not be taking "gimme" puts, but since you have to turn in your card for every round of golf that you play, regardless of matchplay or stroke play to establish a handicap, then conceded strokes can be counted in a stroke play event if for some reason you picked up. Note the the above example is just that, an example. That means that their are other situations where it could arise. However, after further research i did find an R&A; rule that says that a gimme put is grounds for a DQ. I will concede that putting out is the correct thing to do. However, I am going to take a gimme put inside of 12 inches, and if you don't like it you can protest my score when I turn it in.

I don't take any if I am hitting the ball with some consistancy that day. if I am spraying the ball all around, i will try and use a practice swing to figure out what i am doing wrong in my swing. Never if we are playing slow, or someone is wating. Usually, while I am waiting ont eh group in front or something.

First I guess I make up my own game. Therefore, I am not a golfer or a person who plays golf. I am just a person who plays a game accepted by millions of people as golf. If a player does not finish a hole or is conceded a stroke, record the most likely score for handicap purposes. A most likely score is the number of strokes already taken, plus in the player's best judgment, the number of strokes needed to complete the hole from that point more than half the time. The most likely score should have an "X" preceding the number. For example, player A is just off the green in two strokes, and player A’s partner just holed out for a two; therefore, player A decides to pick up. Player A determines the most likely score would have been to chip on and two putt; therefore, player A will record an X-5 on the scorecard (two strokes already taken plus three more strokes to complete the hole). Player A does not automatically put down the Equitable Stroke Control (ESC)™ maximum. First, player A determines the most likely score and then after the round checks to see if the most likely score is above the ESC limit. In this case, player A has a Course Handicap™ of 24 and an ESC maximum of eight. Recording X-5 is not above ESC limit and therefore, X-5 is the score that must be posting for handicap purposes. Please visit Section 4-1 of the USGA Handicap Manual manual for further reference.

Agreed. I think this is the first time I have seen an actual agreement on this board. Woohoo!!

I guess I didn’t understand that you are always playing in tourneys or other competitions. When I play, it is normally just to play the game. The way I am interpreting the handicap manual, for handicapping purposes shots can be conceded. How that relates to your standing in a tourney is completely different. In a tourney, I would definitely expect to hole out every hole. But in a casual weekend game, I would give and take gimmies, and still consider the score to be legit and use it for my handicap. Remember, lowering your handicap only hurts you in competition. Not trying to start any sort of arguement, just want to see how others would interprete the handicap manual. Assuming you are not in a tournament and another players tells you to pick up a putt, do you consider that a legal score according to the USGA handicapping system?

My wife has started golfing, so as long as I offer to take here every once in a while. (Like 9 holes a month) she is alright. However, right now I am living away for work during the week so she doens't care what I do at night. When we move back in together I bet my golf gets a little more stressful.

Sentimental Ballmarkers/Ballmarker of Choice
dansensel replied to Beantown Beancounter's topic in Golf Talk
Four Leaf Clover magnetic marker form my hat clip. Used it forever. The hat clip is rusted up now. -
Just say: What do I owe you for the round? If he says don't worry about it then don't worry about it. If he says you can get it next time, then so on.

Just wanted to point out that not putting out everytime and prefferred lies "or rolling the ball" can be legal and legit for handicap purposes. Gimme puts I believe would be covered under paragraph 4-1 of the USGA Handicap Manual. Preferred Lies are covered under Section 7 of the USGA Handicap Manual. You cannot simply roll the ball with your club, but if local rules applies, you can clean and place your ball within an established distance. http://www.usga.org/Rule-Books/Handi...ndicap-Manual/ Just because you slow down play by not taking conceded putts does not mean you are following the rules any more than the guys who pick up putts within a few feet. Just playing devil's advocate here.

I will need to look for that one. it is gratuitous nudity of the female sort correct? Not some dude golfing naked?

I cannot decide whether to laugh or cry at this thread. I think I will just play golf instead.

53 last night. Played horrible. Couldn't drive the ball and had the most 3 putts I have had all year. Good news is that after my round I hit a bucket of balls and I might have my driver figured out. Will hit the range again tomorrow night and then play a round on Saturday to test it out.

Consistently slicing and pushing a hybrid?
dansensel replied to mh1980's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I constantly push-slice my hybrid. That is why I tend to carry my 3-iron instead. I hit my 3 iron much better and almost as long. -
I vote Gulbis. Those pictures are amazing. I always thought she looked great.
-
Never getting consistant tee shots. I can hit a whole bucket of balls straight down the middle on the range, but i can't hit a fairway to save my life!!!!
-
Shot a 50. Should have been a 45 but I could not hit my driver straight. It is killing me!!!

Currently have a house in Troy, Ohio, an apartment in Ada, Ohio and moving to an apartment in Findlay next month. I am hopeful that my house will sell sometime this year, and my wife and i can purchase a house in Findlay or nearby. Love Sycamore Springs golf course and Red Hawk is a ton of fun.
