I caddied at the Web.com Tour's Nova Scotia Open and umm..
Motley01 replied to Foursum Golf's topic in Tour Talk
Wow! Congrats on you are player's win! This is almost as good as a Tour Pro coming on here. I'm always interested in how the caddie feels after a win like this. How much do you help him? Do you just give yardages? Do you suggest which clubs? Do you help read putts? Are you like Phil and Bones? or like Bubba and his caddie, getting yelled at all the time. LOL -
HIT INTO...What would you have done???
Motley01 replied to cape cod beachfront golfer's topic in Golf Talk
I would have grabbed all four of their balls, and put them in my bag. Let the little bastards search until they figured it out. Young people these days have no manners at all, just look at the internet and see how they act. Why would playing golf suddenly change their ways. Isn't that what the 1st Tee program is all about? Teaching kids manners on the golf course, how to act, how not to act. Maybe Mom was too busy running errands and didn't have time to take them for the 1st tee program. -
We are only a year removed from his very successful last year. Lets remember, he ALMOST won the US Open and the Open last year. He basically gave it to Justin. Nobody has to worry, Phil will win the US Open within 2 years!!!

Well your not that old. I'm 46, been playing golf for over 20 years now. I've been working on my swing more this year. I got a new set of irons. The Callaway Apex 4-PW. They are bit more stronger lofted than my previous set of AP2s. They are really nice clubs. They feel great. I'm hitting the ball just as far as I did when I was in my 20s. Better swing, better equipment, etc. I hit my 8 iron about 150, and my 6 iron around 170. I can hit my driver an average of 265. If I really get a hold of one around 275. But I'm in Denver, so we got the thinner air up hear. Do you fire your hips on the downswing? Like Rory does? I do this and its helped tremendously with distance.

Shopping for new irons tomorrow!
Motley01 replied to Pretzel's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
Wow I'm looking at all your shots and thinking. Sign this guy up for the PGA Tour. Very consistent ball striking. And hitting a 6 iron 210 on average is really good. -
Just remember, when getting lessons from a professional. When making swing changes, things will get worse before it gets better. It always takes time to groove the new swing. So don't expect miracles or anything. You have to go through the pain, before you start seeing results. Good luck and keep us updated on your progress.

You lied? I thought you were buying clubs, not just testing them? -
Driver shaft length too long for most players
Motley01 replied to Motley01's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I just got back from the range. I marked a spot on the grip that is 1.25" from the end. I choked down to that point. I was hitting it beautifully, much much easier to control. By choking up that much, I had to stand closer to the ball. Which was part of my problem, before I was reaching for the ball. I was bent over more too. It was easier to set my wrists at the top. Then I started killing it, great ball flight, around 265 ish. I didn't see any distance loss at all. So this confirmed for me I'm going to have it cut down for sure now. I'm not even sure if I'm going to add weight to the end of it, because it felt perfect for me. -

Whooops, yes you are right. Adding lead weight inside the tip end of the shaft should do it. I'll just have to consult with the fitter to figure all this out. -
LOL Wanna bet I can hit my 7 iron 800 yards?

Yes you are correct, they recommended using lead tape under the grip if it feels too light. -
Just been reading a thread over on GolfWRX. On how manufacturers have too long shafts in most current drivers. My Big Bertha driver shaft is 45.5" and I just can't control it like I can with my 3 wood. The 3 wood off the tee my most consistent club. In order for all these OEM's to "claim" their new driver is longer, is to lengthen the shafts each time they increase head size. Sure its may be longer in distance, but can the typical 15 handicap player control that broomstick? Many people are cutting their driver shafts down to 44.0" I'm not very tall either. I'm 5'8". Apparently Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, etc. some other pros, are currently using 44.0" lengths shafts in their drivers. Wait, what? Yes they are! They want control over distance? I want control over distance. So I just marked a spot on my driver grip, that is 1.25" from the end. So I choke up on the club by that much. Take a few practice swings, WOW! It feels totally different! It feels more comfortable at the top, easier to square the face at impact, etc. I'm going to the range tomorrow, and will see how I do by choking up on the driver. If I'm successful, I'm having it cut down by 1.25" and have the new grip installed. I will report back with my findings.

Thanks for all the advice and tips. I'm going to have two more range sessions before this weekend, but that still doesn't guarantee it will spill over to golf course. I know what I'm doing wrong, I just can't seem to fix it during playing. For example, I'm trying to murder the ball off the tee on drives. At the range I swing easier with better contact. I'll try an keep a positive attitude, but its hard right now.

I must be a range pro or something. I go to the range once or twice a week, and play a round on the weekend. I've been playing golf for 20 years (and I still suck), been down to 12 handicap. Lowest round ever scored (many years ago) was a 77. I buy new equipment, premium balls, new rangefinder. So when I go to the range, I'm relaxed, everything is cozy swing feels great. Hitting nice irons good ball flight tiny draw sometimes. Get my hybrid out and hitting it great about 200 yards. The 3 wood more great shots. Then the driver, hit some decent ones around 260 ish. So this range session was on July 4th. Was there a good two hours. Chipping, bunkers, putting. Everything basically. I'm feeling good at this point. I'm preparing for a tounment this weekend, so I jump on as a single yesterday to get a practice round in. AND I JUST LOST MY MIND! First tee shot of the day, hit well but pushed right out of bounds in the houses! I kept pulling my head during impact, which is something I've struggled with the past couple of years. A few holes later, and I can''t hit my hybrid. My irons were ok, but really didn't hit anything solid, lots of toe shots. OMG! Some of these shots I was hitting yesterday, I couldn't intentionally try to hit them on the range if I hit 100 balls. Seriously I had some really wacked out swings. Not feeling very good right now, I'm in a bad mood. I should be excited for this weekend's tournment, but now i'm fearing I will embarras myself. I just cant seem to bring the range session swing to the golf course any more. I have more fun on the range then I do at the course.

Happy (early) 4th of July! What are your plans?
Motley01 replied to Spyder's topic in The Grill Room
I'm not aware of the Kansas City fireworks laws, but are those illegal, how did you get them? Here in Denver, they are illegal, so we have to drive to Wyoming border to buy the good stuff. I still have some leftover from last year when I went to Cheyenne. -
Did the ebay seller have in the description that they were cut 1 1/2" on the shafts? If the seller didn't specify this, then you have a case for a refund based on the product doesn't match the description. Then open an ebay case and send the clubs back. Ebay sides with buyers, so you should be fine.

Motley01 replied to Spyder's topic in The Grill Room
Wow! Those look like some killer fireworks BuckeyNut. Very nice. I'm going to range tomorrow morning, then I'm playing a round at Legacy Ridge on Saturday late afternoon (twilight rate). I have some friends over to do some grilling, and shoot of a few fireworks. Happy 4th everyone, may all your golfing dreams come true. (was that kinda corny or what) -
I have my driver adjusted at 11.0*. 3 wood adjusted to 16*. and Hybrid is 22*. I'm a low ball hitter so I need the higher lofts.

You're just mad because the Canadian team didn't make the World Cup. Just sayin...

LOL all or nothing.

Ya I know. I'm not have a very good sports teams year. First it was the Broncos in the awefull Superbowl loss. Then it was the Avalanche, now its the US Soccer team. Geeeeezus, every time I get all pumped up, emotionally invested, and BAM!, ends badly. Not a good feeling.

DAAAMMMIIITTTTTTT!! I'm so pissed right now. They played like crap for about 100 minutes. Then all sudden they start playing great and getting chances. They almost tied that sucker up again, that penalty kick was awesome and should have went in. Our goalie saved our ass all day long, what was it like 15 saves or some crazy number. Howard is simply fantastic. Entertaining game, just result was bad. Oh well we'll win the entire cup in 4 years. And whoever says Americans are not football fans need to get their pulses checked. I've never seen this before the support for USA was awesome this year. We're proud of our team.

Ya I miss the clickety clack sound from metal spikes, but I don't miss the spiked up greens. I know the pros can't tap down spike marks, but when I play I always used to tap down them if it was in my line of putt.

LOL ya those crazy looking mokawks died bright yellow. Seriously?
