That's the difference in father-son relationships between now and then. Back in the late 1970s, if I had a good drive on a par 5, but there was a group behind us, my dad would say "Lay up to a sensible number, the group behind us doesn't care if you can reach the green.". And I did what he said because I needed a ride home.

That's no surprise with Greg Norman as commissioner. That was his approach to every final round of every major he ever led after 54 holes.

2021 British Open (Players Angry Over COVID Protocols)

I would go further to say that a player who has trouble finding the fairway with his driver, yet amassed 3 majors before age 24, is pretty strong mentally. -

More like, clearly Bryson is still in his head. No wonder these guys have flopped in majors since the feud amped up. And no, a back door top 5 in the USO is not an accomplishment for someone like Brooks, who acts like he's god's gift to major championship golf. Talks a lot of trash for someone who hasn't won a major in more than 3 years and is obsessed with someone who can't get out of his own way right now. -

Maybe, at 5 under, this dolt should be focused on how he can catch Louie and not concerned with flaming some other dolt who barely made the cut. -

There it is. Couldn't put my finger on it, but that was what I was trying to say. -

I don't see how that's proven when he won a British Open he had no business winning. -
"Money doesn't solve everything, and the conditions are worse now than they were in 2007 or 2010." I think you just hit on what I was asking about, even if you were trying to refute my post. That is a key reason (conditions) as to why it's held is lesser regard now, even though it is a major.

With all due respect, I never heard of over analyzing holding back immense talent to be Jordan''s problem. It's more like having a loose swing, not having the prodigious talent of a Rory Mcilroy and therefore not knowing where the drives are going that's his problem. In fact, he seems to get the most out of his game. Definitely a feel player compared to someone like Bryson Dechambeau, who is an over analyzer. Or you can even say Rory, when it comes to putting, is an over analyzer compared to Jordan. You can't go by comments when the player is miked up. To me, all Jordan thinks about is scoring. -

Dinah Shore was always a superior tournament, deserves to be a major and the Evian doesn't. But, my point is, Evian got more love before it was a major. Back in the 2000s, not only did the Evian have the name Masters in it, you heard several players specifically saying "this is our Masters". Natalie Gulbis in 2007 said those exact words in 2007 after she won. Maybe the distinterest now is that it was declared a major when it shouldn't have been coupled with the move from July to September (although its July this year).

Let's not forget, he was playing with Spieth. Probably annoys Bryson to no end that this unthinking player(in Bryson's mind), who subscribes to the hit it, find it, and hit it again method tooled around in 65, while Bryson's "master plan" only returned a 1 over. -
^This.

I don't get it. 10- 15 years ago, before it was designated a major, it was one of the most desireable tournaments to play in and win with the highest prize money. They ladies used to refer to it as there Masters.

Well you didn't say that in the original post. I thought you mishit the 6i leaving you in that position. 6i in my hand, I'm usually looking to hit the green. But regardless, the point is a 30 yards to pin wedge shot over a bunker to a front to back sloping green is no picnic, so leaving a 30 foot uphill putt is nothing to get annoyed about.

Never. Getting the ball on the green with any easy lag putt is the goal there. I would have been upset with the second shot leaving me in that position.

That's why I like ordering from PXG when they have their blowout sales. I can customize anything to my specs. Really paid dividends with the customized driver and putters. But, I didn't want their irons, I wanted the ZX 5s straight out of the box and mail order on them was crazy wait times. Luckily I found them at one of the GGs in my area. Plus I traded in my old Ping Gs, so it worked out great.

My best and worst shots were on the same hole during the same round. Playing in an outing at a CC, there was a short 297 yard uphill par 4. Hole was really narrow and others in group took out irons and still put it in the rough. I go for broke and knock my tee shot 2 1/2 feet from the hole for my best shot ever. My worst shot ever was when I proceeded to blow the putt for eagle.

Funny how Matt Kuchar, who I don't even really like, is left out of the conversation. He has as many PGA Tour wins as any of those 2 combined and only 2 less than all 3 combined.
-
Yeah, he's great for that. Very recently, after I got upset with a bad shot, he turns to me and says, "You putt like Brad Faxon, so you can't expect expect to strike it like Nick Price" (he's in his forties, so these are his reference points from watching golf growing up, lol).

I always con myself into believing, no matter the circumstances, that my round should have been lower. I remember one instance in a particular when I shot a 9 over 81 and cited all the mistakes I made that cost me breaking 80. One of my playing says "Are you kidding? The way you scrambled, you turned an 87 into an 81.".

Absolutely they are because of the PGA Tour's "Player Impact Program" with its $40M bonus pool.

Just use a friendly match play, no money has to be involved. If we have a foursome, it's team best ball, threesome it's skins and twosome it's singles. That way you need his score and can call him out after every hole. He'll fall in line very quickly. Our group never has to call out anybody. You have a clear winner/loser, so who cares what he puts on his scorecard after that? If he's reporting a handicap, he's only hurting himself.
