I have been struggling as of late with my ball slicing. This is mostly due to the fact that I changed courses to one that is more difficult and requires me to use my driver. I tried to keep it inside my left heel and couldn't stop the slice. I tried lots of things and nothing was helping. I simply moved the ball up in my stance about an inch and the slice went away. It worked for me.

Playing in the NW of the country kind of limits your playing time w/ all of the rain. Now that the rain has slowed down I have been able to get back on the course. Since I have been playing again I have developed a bad slice with my driver. I normally have slice issues anyway, but not to the degree that it has been lately. I was playing the other day with a local course member and he said that my stance was the issue, that my feet were too wide. He had me put my feet together and take a swing with my driver. I was surprised when I hit the ball straight and far. I played the rest of the round this way and I kept hitting the ball really well. I have started to widen my stance back to what feels normal to me, and when I start to slice I go back and with my feet together and begin to widen them again. For my situation the guys tip about the feet is working, but why? What does having your feet too wide do to your swing?

I will agree with that comment!!!!!!!!!

I want to change my driver, any thoughts?
bucklateral replied to four13's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I am currently playing w/ a Cleveland Launcher and feel that it is very forgiving. A guy I play with is messing around with the Wilson Staff smooth and the Wilson Staff spine, both were fun to hit. I also would recomend Cobra. I have hit some of their drivers and really liked them. -
Biggest problem with the show is Trump. I hate playing with guys like him and I don't like watching him on TV as well. I keep waiting for a cheap Apprentice comment of "YOURE FIRED" when someone makes a bad shot. I like the match play idea, and the celebs is okay as well. I hope it isn't just sports and movie stars. I would like to see some pro golfers as well. The co-host is great, except donald doesn't let her speak. I think her job is to just look good, by the way she does that very well.

I'm 14 Strokes Up on You... Stop Giving Me Advice!
bucklateral replied to Fairway_CY's topic in Golf Talk
I play at a small rural course where there is rarely more than 3 groups on our 9-hole course at any time. When I go to bigger courses I always get in foursomes that have someone giving advice. Any advice given without it being asked for is a bad idea. I don't care if you are better or worse than me, I don't want your advice. When I want advice I will ask for it or pay the club pro for it. My new plan, that usually works, is when I play with new people or someone who has annoyed me in the past is that I start off on the first tee box explaining how I played with this guy last time that wouldn't shutup with his advice and that I don't want to hear it. I usually have to add in that I have been working with the pro on my course on a few things and am still working on these techniques. It usually works. -
I started both of my kids last year on golf. My daughter was 7 and my son was 6. They still go golfing with me at least twice a week over a year later. I got some advice from some of the guys at my course and it has been good so far. All I taught them was how to grip the club, some basic etiquett, and had them play every hole as a 3 par. This way they were about 1 shot from the hole and then got to put. Usually the kids want to play from a little farther away and I just leave it up to them. Some holes they just want to putt, some they want to start close and some they want to start far away. The only issue is they sometimes don't understand that we need to go faster if the course is busy. The biggest mistake I made was buying an off-brand set of clubs. It didn't even occur to me that there were name brand kids clubs. The ones I got my kids had the bags fall apart in a few months, the clubs have started to rust, and the grips are falling apart. I had to buy new sets for them once the other ones literally fell apart. I bought my daughter the Wilson brand and she is really happy with them and my son has Cleveland clubs. They were both good prices. Check out TGW.com or ebay.

Played in a 1 club tournament once. Most of us took either a 6, 7, or 8 iron. It was a blast.

Here is my list of who I want to win: 1 - Anyone but Tiger. Nothing to do with his personal troubles, but I have an issue with Nike (as do most Oregon State grads) and get tired of hearing his name in the news. 2 - Harrington. Have to root for an Irishman and I love my Wilson Staff clubs 3 - Phil. He is fun to watch. He gets in horrible jams like I do and is so good that he does A LOT better than me when he plays out of them.

I got it as a gift from my wife (shows how bad my golf game is!!!). It is okay. The basic idea I got from it was that he is trying to get people to translate their skills from other sports to golf. If you have played baseball, ping pong, or tennis you have a basic understanding of why the ball does what it does. A slice or hook is from bad timing, late or early, or if it has a late spin one way or the other it could be from your lie angle being off. Like I said it is okay. He shoes some drills at the end and most of them are some that you could see on the Golf Fix on the Golf channel. One thing that I did like was how he says so many people have different swings but are still successful in golf. The idea is that there is no perfect swing but more of a perfect contact, and that is his focus, the contact with the ball. He has lots of good points but I don't know if I would say it was worth the price.

On the green. I play to the green at my course. If I hit the middle of any green at my local course that will put me w/in 25 feet. I usually get to the green but not as consistent as I want for hittin the center. Once my game improves I will go for the stick, but for now I just go for the middle of the green.

I just got back into golf about 10 months ago. There are about 4-5 different courses around me and one of them is a 9-hole course much like the one you described. The one here is smaller than yours but also has small greens, narrow fairways, and on the side of a hill. If you are just looking to play more I would recomend it. I chose my 9 hole course for the following reasons: ---Just wanted to play more often. At the 9 hole tee times aren't an issue since very few people play it or know about it. ---The cost was perfect. I was just interested in playing more and the cost here was about a 1/3 of what everywhere else was. ---This course is known as a tough one. I have found that as I get better at this course I have done better at the courses in the area that are known as tougher courses. I find that the other courses seem easier since they are much more wide open. Wide fairways and big greens seem much easier than what I am use to. The only drawbacks are the following: ---A limited choice in the clubhouse for many things. My clubhouse only sells used clubs (from other members) and used golf balls (those picked up around the course). ---My struggle (outside of my game) on other courses is getting use to their length. I am not as good with my long irons, hybrids, or fairway woods as I would be if I played longer courses. I find that my driver, short irons, and putting has improved. I have to purposely choose to play rounds without my driver to get the practice I need.

My local course starts off w/ a par 3 on the first and second hole. The first is 150 yards uphill with the distance from the back of the green to a persons back yard at about 10 yards. The second hole is also a par 3. 90 yards downhill over trees and water. I hated the layout at first, but it is fun w/ friends who haven't been there before. They seem to struggle with it.

I go for it, everytime!!! I love playing golf, and really love watching the ball fly. I play with several good golfers who play for the best score, try to beat each other, but I enjoy going for it. Par 4 or 5 is an automatic driver for me.
