  1. My putting had been hit or miss most of the season before changing everything a month ago. Been trying to lock it in at home, I have hard wood floors but found my 6' yoga mat works great. Use one of the wives bracelets which are about .75 the size of a golf hole. Working on making sure I roll the ball out the back of the bracelet. Had no round the entire year where I made as many 8-15' putts as yesterday. Also made a slight tweek in my grip and hit my irons much better.
  2. Capital City in Lacey. I work down there but I live in T-town like you.
  3. What are the odds? Have my cap to the low 10's mainly due to figuring out my driver 7-8 rounds ago and some of my lowest scores have been during this time. Finally broke 80 in the spring with a 79 and have had a couple more 79's recently with some 80-81's. Since "fixing" the driver, I haven't lost a single ball in 8 rounds and only have 1-2 per round where I don't have a second shot to the green. However, between irons, short game and putting usually only two out of the three were "on". Not today, everything was on. It was a somewhat simple 75, 15 pars and 3 bogey's. Had 3 makeable birdies, but it's hard to complain. Totally changed putting three rounds ago and it's been 34, 32 and 30 putts today. Four one putt pars on the front with the shortest being 8' and longest 20. Best part was I finished front at 5:45 and knew I would have to hussle to finish before dark. I was +1 (lowest 9 ever) and didn't want to mess it up by rushing. Part of things being "on" was I have been working on slowing down my tempo, especially on the backswing. Was able to stay focused on moving fast between shots, but keeping slower tempo during shots. 7 pars and 2 bogey's later I am trying to get my mind around a +3 round.
  4. Had mine for over a year and love it. Like others have said, out and back in about under 10 seconds. I always press and hold the top botton and if I get multiple number it is easy to figure out which is right.
  5. An 85yd SW to a pin on right side of green. However, big oak tree guards right side and since my weak 2nd shot was short and right I had no shot at the pin threw all the branches. Aimed way left hoping to leave a 40-50' putt at best. Made great contact but couldn't see ball as my head came up, that's because I pushed it bad right at all the branches. Since there are no leaves my eye catches the ball just as it exits the branches, having not touch a single one, and lands 6" on the back side of the hole. I'm sure I could have stood there all day long hitting balls at the pin and never get through clean again.

    Green Fees

I play 6-8 muni's in my area and usually about 80% at twilight. Since I alway walk, range is $18-22 and by rotating finding a good course is easy. Weekday play is $27-35 walking and add $10-15 for a cart. Like most other places, there are plenty of courses in the $75-100 range.
  7. I play TM Reds all summer, but as things soften up and it gets colder I usually switch to a 2-3 piece ball. Went to a course today that was already starting to soften up last week and got some rain earlier this week. Decided to use a TM Burner TP and remembered why I like this ball as conditions change. Fine off the driver, short irons under a foot from the pitch marks, and putts nice. Since it does spin less than the Reds, my chips were long all day but that is an easy adjustment. WalMarts has 2dz for $40 deals and if you go used lostgolfballs are $9 for AAAAA. Many good balls in the price range you are looking at mostly a personal preference. It is always nice to find a lost ball that you have wanted to try. Doing this has saved me money on a dozen when I didn't like the ball.
  8. I have the topper mistake. I was 15 at the time and my buddy and I were both new to the game having picked it up over the summer with our dads. During a frosty fall morning we get to the course early and on the first hole we can't figure out why they forgot to put the pins on the greens and instead left them short in a semi-mowed area (we had no idea what a temporary green was). We proceeded to play the entire front 9 moving every pin along the way and playing the "real" greens. It wasn't until we were standing on the 9th green that someone came out, chewed our butts good, and kicked us off the course. Obviously we learned from that mistake and did not make it again.

    Top Flite Balls

I really like the D2 Feel for fall/winter play. I get plenty of distance, greens are soft so no problem with spin and I picked up four boxes (15 balls each) for under $40 last fall. For well under a dollar per ball, I play these until it's time to break out the TM Reds. I had the "Rock Flight" bias until trying these a couple of years ago.
  10. I have also seen a lot of Callaway x-12 3 irons on ebay for around the same price. May take a flyer on something for the price.
  11. I borrowed a buddies old Lynx Parallax 3 iron a couple of months ago for a punch out club as my driver was all over the place at the time. Tried hitting it at the range a couple of times but even when hit well it was a low fade shot. In the last couple of rounds, this club has come in handy in situations when a low fade has been needed. Looking at ebay for older 3 irons especially a ping eye 2 or TA 845. Both can be had for around $20-30. Any other older easy to hit forgiving 3 irons I should look at?
  12. Anyone have experience/opinions on this driver. A local store had quite a few on clearance for $119 and wondered if they might be worth taking a look at for that price. Hit a few g10's before and liked the feel.
  13. I love playing twilight as it allow me to play more golf. In my area after 3 is $17-22 depending on the course. Can get in 18 easily with a few courses being under 4 hour rounds.
  14. If you are not doing yoga, look into it. I started last summer and currently have a 30 min routine I do 4-5 days a week. I have lower back issues and this has probably made the most difference. I add a few light weights 3 days a week focusing on arms, chest and shoulders. Try and walk 18 2-3 times a week in the summer and walk 4-5 miles a day on non golfing days. Since starting this routine last summer, I have improved my flexibility, strength and endurance. Walking and carrying my bag for 18 is no longer a problem and I dont need 600mg of Advil after a round anymore.
  15. What's everyones thoughts on choice of tee boxes? Play mostly as a single and sometimes get paired with people playing a further tee box than I like to. Don't have any problems saying what tee box I am going to play and more often than not the people playing the further boxes should not be based on their game. Go out today and get behind a foursome playing from the blue (6700 yds) and it becomes clear only one of them has the game for it. To top it off, they played honors on every shot all day including very short putts. Their group were all in carts, I played with a retired guy and his wife in a cart while myself and another guy walked. We waited on these guys all day long. Also did not help that they waited for the green to clear on every par 5 even though they all were 250ish out. My motto: mans' got to know his limitations.
  16. Would like to hear people's opinions on the importance of improving your course management in order to lower your scores; especially with regards to mid-high hdcp players. I play as a single mostly so get paired up with a lot of different people most of which have a higher cap than me. Also read a lot of posts here about equiptment and swing tips and while important, I see better course management as an easier and free way of lowering your scores. For me in the last year, focusing on par 5's, short par 4's and not aiming at every pin has made a big difference. On par 5's most try and hit driver then FW as far as possible and try to pitch and putt. Since driver and FW can be tougher to hit for the higher caper this strategy often goes bad. Get some looks when I pull out an iron with the philosophy of getting somewhere between 100-130. My par 5 stats have gone down in the last year. See a lot of driver on short par 4's and very little irons or hybrids. Most of the short par 4's I play (less than 300 yds.) require a well placed driver to be on or close. On one couse most think today is the day their driver carries the water that's 230 and still holds the green that is only 10-15 paces wide. Again get some looks when I pull out whatever irons gets me to my comfortable distance for the day. Don't get me started with aiming at every pin. I spent so much time short sided last season thought I was going to lose it. Once my thoughts changed to "where do I want to miss" short side virtually disappeared and converted more up and downs. Sorry so long, but I think a lot of people here could benefit in a fairly easy way to drop probably more than a few shots from their scores.
  17. Love PLU as a practice course. I am usually able to play multiple balls and work on different things. If you are there enough, I have probably seen you. Capital City is pretty nice. Good rates especially twilight and later. Greens pretty hard and fast. Actually like it a little better than some of the local courses. Played Thursday at 2:15 and was done before 6. This was a foursome with two in carts and two walking. It was a wonderful pace.
  18. Thought that might be the one. Usually play there at least a couple of times a season. I'm a little closer to Meadow Park, Allenmore and Brookdale so play there a lot and Capital City in Lacey since I work close to it. With my erratic driver, I have not felt up to Spanaway yet.
  19. Also in Tacoma and trying to think what course you are talking about. I tend to only hit 2-3 balls at a time regardless of how busy. It keeps me moving around and I loose focus if I try and hit ball after ball from the same place.
  20. My bag has a metal ring that the shoulder straps attach to. I clip the case to the ring which makes it pretty easy to get to.
  21. Mine is in the case and attached to my bag. Taking it in and out the of case when needed is not really much of a problem.
  22. Played that course many times in the early 90's after my buddy got out of the Air Force and worked at the fire dept on the grounds. Remember it being a fun little course to play around on. Know they have made a number of changes to it and wouldn't mind being able to hit it around there again.
  23. With a shaved head I have to go with a cap. Nothing is worse than burning a shaved head. In the winter a fleece hat is also a must.
  24. I started playing the tp reds last summer and love them. Other than greenside spin, I also like the burner tps. The regular burners play nice in the fall and winter when things are colder and greens are pretty soft.
  25. I bought a pair of Addidas tennis shoe type for the spring and summer when it is dry in my area. Walked a couple of rounds and practise time to break them in, think these will be much better than all leather heavy ones come warmer temps.
