  1. I'll second these two points. The teathered ball broke off on me when playing. Their support was good though and sent me free replacement parts. But I just hit real or foam/plastic balls into a net off the Launch Pad, then you can better tell if you hit it fat/thin, etc. And putting stinks with it, I just play Tiger Woods in practice mode with it as the swing analyzer in that game does pretty well of telling you swing path, and straight/fade/draw/etc. Overall its a nice alternative when the snow starts flying, but I always hit balls outside over this if I can.
  2. With friggin laser beams attached to their heads! But seriously I'm with most everyone on making bunkers tougher. Bunkers should be tough enough that simply getting out of them is the goal of the shot. Not just a minor inconvenience or even improvement over some lies you can get in thick rough.
  3. 1 in a 100 for me! My best driver and 3 wood on fairways that are baked out and fast so there's plenty of roll to be had. 518 YD Par 4, that's just nuts!
  4. I know a few people who do not carry any fairway woods. For me my 3 wood is my go to club off the tee. Only hit driver on long par 4s and if I'm going for a par 5 in 2. Depending on the courses you play the gap between your driver and a long iron may not matter. If you prefer irons you may like a hybrid that is more iron like though. Definitally a personal preference thing.
  5. The used bin is a great place to find very playable clubs at great prices. Just got my Callaway driver I'm using now from a Golfdiscount store. I gotta go checkout Goodwill as someone said earlier.
  6. A few years ago for christmas my wife got me a home simulator for around $150, I think it is called the Launch Pad. It is NOT a launch angle monitor, it is just a small astro turf pad that has some sensors in it, you hook it up to a computer and to reads your swing and puts it in as mouse movement. It comes with a copy of EA Tiger Woods and a generic range program. Tells you swing speed and how square your club face was at contact. It gives me faster swingspeed readings than any launch monitor I've been on so be careful of that. I have enough room in my basement to hit plastic balls off it into a net with my irons. Then I practice putting some on carpet too. One winter of that really helped me get to having a more consistent swing. Only drawback of hitting off the thing is it's a mat so you can get some swings where you would really be hitting it fat but it doesn't read that. Anything you can get that you can swing your actual clubs with and get some meaningful feedback will be helpful. Man I gotta move somewhere I can play year round.
  7. Don't hit it back at them. Makes you look worse. Just wait for them to finish the hole and have then play through. It sucks more to have to worry about them being behind you the rest of the round. And while it is pretty inconsiderate I find it is never intentional, you can always call the club house if someone is a real jerk.
  8. Like PiKapp23 is saying with gripping down on driver, do the same with fairway woods. I started out in the same situation as you and worked at the range until I felt pretty good about moving up a club at a time, 3I to 5W to 3W to driver. I also had to really resist the urge to swing harder with a longer club. Also based on the type of Hybrid you are hitting (if it's more wood like or more iron like) can help you decide what club to move up to before getting to driver. If it's more wood like you might do well with fairway woods or go for a stronger hybrid. Whatever helps you have more fun playing. Good luck!

I'm 33. Been playing for 5 years. I've got 3 young kids so I'm lucky to get to the course for 9 holes every couple of weeks. I can take my six year old to the course and range with me some now. Plus it's fun now to beat my dad and uncle in skins matches!
  10. For me it's Tiger. Jack is undeniably great and has done tons for the game. But Tiger has already helped break down the racial barrier in golf and done more outside of golf than I think anyone except his dad ever imagined. Third Post, yeah!
  11. Fortunately I live in an area with lots of pretty nice and afforable local courses. Mostly public and TPC at Deere Run is semi-private. I mostly play at http://www.byronhills.com
  12. Computer Network Administrator. My wife thinks I'm like Nick Burns at work. Gettin my 3 posts in to prove I'm not a bot!
